In a cave, on a snowy mountain, a little family of four was no unfamiliar sight. But that is usually just four animals in this mountain range, as no humans live around the surrounding areas. It's all trees, beasts, and blood. Yes, between beasts, it's always the survival of the fittest.
There was something strange about this particular family of bears. They had a little human child among them, who was clothed in a white furred beast skin. He has a head full of white hair, white eyebrows, and gem-like white pupils. He sat with the family of bears and ate a bowl of honey while the others ate meat.
"Scraf dear, look, our son can now walk, I think we should name him now. What do you think would be his name?"
Big Grund took a bite and said to his wife, who lay lazily beside him with a piece of meat in front of her, and a mouth full of raw flesh.
"Didn't we agree that I'll do the naming?
Why are you in such a hurry?
By the way, I can understand our son walking now, but what's up with this human child?
Why is he able to walk, too?
The human body of humans are normally weaker than our own body, why's this child able to grow and walk so quickly?"
She asked question after question.
"Why are you asking so many questions. I have seen some human babies before, and they are usually screaming. I don't know why they are screaming, though, but this little guy has never screamed that way, so he's clearly abnormal.
Don't forget, I found him on a mountain that only thick-furred animals can survive in. What you should be asking is, should we name him, too? Now that he could walk, we should name him together with our son."
Big Grund replied to his wife. He took a bite of his food, then looked at the white haired boy who was taking a bite from a honeycomb.
"How about this, since you're going to name our son, let me be the one to name him."
He proposed to his wife.
"Mmh, ok"
She agreed.
"Alright, let's name him...."
"My name is Good Elwyn."
A tiny voice sounded.
"Whoa woooah..."
"Did he talk?"
"Yes, he did."
"How is that possible?"
"Wait, little guy, you can talk, why didn't you say anything yet all along?"
The two bear couple couldn't be more flabbergasted.
"I can talk a few days ago, a person who looked like me, but taller, with a fat chest, and black hair, told me when I was sleeping that my name is Good Elwyn. I believe him. So please call me Elwyn."
Elwyn explained patiently before taking another bite.
Scraf softly said, "He asked why you didn't talk all along. Newborn humans usually ask a lot of questions when they just gain consciousness. Why didn't you ask anything?".
"You and Dad are always talking, so I have no choice but to just listen. I wanted to ask some questions, though, but I don't know why I suddenly felt like not asking them again." Elwyn replied again.
"You can ask us questions, any questions you want to ask."
Big Grund looked at the child excitedly.
"Ok, I have a question. Why is he not talking like you, and what is his name?"
Elwyn pointed at the little bear that's sleeping by the side with the hand he's holding his honeycomb.
"Ahh, yes. If you didn't mention it, we'd have forgotten that we were just trying to name him". Big Grund snapped out of his reverie.
Scraf nodded too and said, "His name is Grund Jr. He's going to be just like his father."
"Yessss. Wooohooo." Big Grund jumped up and scooped the little bear into his paws.
Little Grund woke up and looked around in confusion before letting out a little growl, trying to struggle out of his father's paws.
"Elwyn, since you can now talk, I have to tell you, humans don't usually wear what you are wearing. They wear better clothes, but we can't get you one. The first reason is that we don't really have money. We usually don't need it, cause we just hunt our food by ourselves, and it's just meat, nothing else. But humans are different, they're very complicated, and need many things, which is why they like exchanging things for money."
Scraf turned her head and said to Elwyn. She then got up and told Elwyn to follow her. While the father and son bears were playing, Scraf took the young human child outside the cave.
As they came out, she took him upwards to the mountain top.
"Look to the horizon over there, can you see those things that look like rocks, but also not like rocks. You can see the lights there too, right?, That is where humans live. One day, you'll live with them, also you'll have to travel around with Junior Grund. I want you to always protect him, ok."
She said to little Elwyn.
"I know that humans are naturally smarter than we beasts. So whenever you guys are out there, try to keep your brother out of danger. Although you are a human, and he's a bear, he's still your brother, ok.
"Yes," Elwyn replied calmly.
"Can you see how beautiful this scenery is. Actually, the world is very dangerous; people can die anytime, any day, just because they are weak. I don't know why, but we can clearly see that you are not ordinary. We beasts don't need a school to train, but humans usually need a school to train." Scraf kept talking.
"We beasts just eat and hunt, and that's how we become strong. But humans have different ways they train. I don't know it, so I can't help you train. If you want, Grund and I can send you to a human city where you can learn how to train."
Scraf looked at the white haired boy with kindness.
"I don't want to go," Elwyn replied.
"But if you don't go, you cannot train yourself, talk more of protecting your brother, you cannot even survive the surrounding forest."
Scraf looked at him and said.
"Although we're here to protect you guys, we won't always be here, so you guys have to get stronger to be able to survive in this world."
"That person I saw when I was sleeping, she said she'll teach me how to train,"
"This person you keep talking about, who did she say she is? I heard that humans usually have dreams, do they also communicate with them?"
Scraf's interest was piqued again.
"She said that she's my Mother."
Little Elwyn brought down his head and said slowly.
"Oh, your mother?"
"Where did she say she is?"
"Why did she leave you at a snowy mountain?"
Scraf asked at the same time.
"She didn't say anything else," little Elwyn replied.
"Hey guys, what are we talking about?"
A big voice traveled through the light snowfall to where they were sitting.
"What is your business with it?" Scraf replied jokingly.
A little bear jumped out of the cave too, after his father, who caught him with one arm and threw him upwards to his mother's body. Little Grund landed comfortably on Scrafs white, furred body, and let out a soft purr.
Little Elwyn looked on in silence and muttered under his breath. 'I don't want to leave'.
Scraf, who overheard the little guy, looked at him with a smile and continued to play with little Grund.
