Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Felicity and Fae

How unlucky am I?

That damn Stacy and that cursed tongue of hers. Not only did she persuade me into going to some ceremony I didn't even want to attend, she made today unlucky too.

"Hey, Felicity, you sure about not attending the ceremony?"

"It's not like you were keen on going in the first place."

"I mean, yeah, can't deny that."

"But… you're really sure about taking care of the cat?"

"Yeah."

"So let's just wait here after her check-up."

"Her?"

"Yeah, she's a she."

"What are you going to name her?"

"Was hoping you'd help me with that."

"I have a very bad naming sense, believe it or not."

"Oh, don't worry about that—I 100% believe you."

"I was about to name her Fae."

"Fae? As in from my name—Faith. Fai-th, Fai… Fae?"

"I mean, that's not half bad."

"Do you mind?"

"I don't care."

She pouted, staring at me.

"I mean, I don't mind. It's fine."

"You sure?"

"Yes."

"Then go ahead."

"Oh, Faith, wait for me a bit. I just need to fill out some papers."

After a while, the cat's checkup was done, followed by the paperwork. It took some time, but eventually, everything was finished.

She came out of the room. That's when I noticed—she and the cat had the same eyes. Emerald green. And while I was at it, Felicity really was pretty, with nice proport—

A pen smacked me.

"Hey!" she shouted.

"What was that for?"

"You were totally thinking something dirty while staring at me."

"It was nothing."

"No, it wasn't."

"And how would you even know?"

"I've dealt with enough guys to recognize the look."

"What look?"

"Don't act dumb."

"Fine, I just thought you were pretty."

She blushes, looking flustered. For a split second, she smiles—but instantly withdraws it.

"Heh," she scoffs. "I thought you said no flirting?"

"Well, someone was persistent."

"That's no excuse for flirting."

"What, you flustered?"

"In your dreams."

"Well, is she okay?"

"Who?"

"The cat?"

"Who?"

"Seriously?"

She nods.

"Fine," I said. "Is Fae alright?"

"Yes, she's fine." As Felicity gently smiles.

"Shall we go now?"

"I was thinking we should buy Fae's necessities first."

"But it's better if we do that later—so you can at least attend the fun part of the ceremony."

"Wait, you're actually bringing Fae to campus?"

"Yes. And what's wrong with that?"

"Isn't that… kind of dangerous?"

"Ah, right. I forgot—you're a first year."

Felicity smirked, holding Fae close against her chest.

"They already have measures for metahumans, variants, and anomalies on campus. So don't worry."

"Besides, Fae's only classified as a Curious Anomaly—nothing dangerous."

"Once the guards check her documentation, she'll be able to walk in and out of school without any problem."

My phone buzzes.

"Hey," Felicity nudges me. "Someone's calling you."

"Wait a sec."

I pull my phone from my pocket.

It's Stacy. Of course. Can't I just block her for now? …Eh, wouldn't hurt.

"Who was it?" Felicity asks.

"No one. Spam call."

"Spam calls still exist?" She chuckles, then smirks. "I'm surprised you even know what those are."

"Likewise."

Her eyebrow lifts. "What are you implying?"

"What you're implying."

"That you're young?"

"And you're old."

She swats my forearm and walks ahead. At the doorway, she turns back.

"You coming?"

"Who knows?" I drag my steps until I catch up to her.

"Jerk and a liar at that," she mutters.
