Chapter 160: Support Arrives
At that moment, a flicker of surprise crossed Uchiha Setsuna's face.
"What kind of special news?" Uchiha Fugaku asked curiously.
Setsuna quickly replied, "One of the Legendary Sannin—Jiraiya—has arrived with the support troops. He's an expert in sealing techniques. Nara Shikaku said that with Jiraiya present, we might not need to send the Sealing Team."
A hint of amusement lit fugaku's eyes. Jiraiya? He hadn't expected that old pervert to show up with the reinforcements.
Was he here to interfere—or for some other reason?
Fortunately, Nara Shikaku's report explained the situation clearly.
After listening, he understood what had happened.
Apparently, shortly after Fugaku left the village, Jiraiya followed Orochimaru back into Konoha. He had likely come looking for trouble, but since he wasn't there, he lost interest and left. Later, when Shikaku's forces prepared to capture Orochimaru, the Snake Sannin escaped before they could act.
Since Jiraiya alone posed no real threat to Konoha, Shikaku decided to leave him be. Then, upon hearing that reinforcements were being sent to the front lines, Jiraiya shamelessly tagged along.
Shikaku had analyzed that Jiraiya was probably there to "watch the show"—and perhaps stir up a little mischief. He left it to the Hokage to decide what to do with him.
Uchiha Patriarch chuckled softly. Jiraiya, huh? Even if he uses Sage Mode, what could he possibly do to me now?
With his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, even Sage Jiraiya wouldn't be a real threat. His incomplete Sage Mode couldn't even scratch Susanoo's armor.
Still, Jiraiya's sealing arts were undeniably impressive. He knew techniques like the Evil Sealing Method, the Four Symbols Seal, and even the Five Elements Seal—some of which he'd learned from his student, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze.
With Jiraiya on the field, there was no need to worry about opening the secret chamber.
And if the Sannin refused to cooperate… well, fugaku's eyes could make him obedient in an instant. He also still possessed Shisui's Kotoamatsukami, though he wouldn't waste that on someone like Jiraiya.
Jiraiya was strong—but compared to Yuta, he was merely optional.
If he was here, good; if not, it made no difference.
What a pity, though—Orochimaru had slipped away.
Fugaku shook his head, disappointed. He had planned to save Kotoamatsukami for Orochimaru, intending to keep him in the village as a personal researcher.
If only Orochimaru and Jiraiya had arrived a few days earlier—or later, after Yuta's return to the village—things might have gone differently.
Now, with the resources seized from the Hidden Cloud Village, Konoha's technological advancement was inevitable. There were still so many tools and scientific devices he wanted to develop from his memories of his past life.
Having someone like Orochimaru working for him would have accelerated everything.
But now that Orochimaru had escaped again, finding him would be a headache. With secret bases scattered all over the world, who could tell where that snake was hiding this time?
He sighed quietly.
"Hokage-sama?" Setsuna's voice broke through his thoughts. Seeing Yuta's faraway expression, he asked, "Should we still send the Sealing Team?"
Fugaku came back to his senses and shook his head. "No need. With Jiraiya there, it'll be fine."
"Understood. I'll send the message to Nara Shikaku right away."
Fugaku nodded approvingly.
By evening, the reinforcements from Konoha finally arrived. Setsuna went down the mountain to greet them.
Leading the group was none other than Uchiha Sihu—an old acquaintance.
"Elder Sihu! You came personally?" Setsuna asked in surprise.
Sihu laughed heartily. "How could I miss an event like this? Come on, take us up—I want to see it for myself!"
The ninja behind him were just as eager.
Their journey had taken them through the Land of Lightning, across the legendary Cloud Thunder Valley that guarded Hidden Cloud Village. Along the way, only a few low-ranked Cloud ninja had tried to resist—and were quickly dealt with.
Now, standing at the base of the once-mighty Hidden Cloud, they still couldn't fully process what had happened.
The Fourth Raikage—said to rival a thousand men in battle—was dead.
The strongest hidden village in the world had fallen.
Everything had changed overnight.
But when they finally stepped through the broken gates and saw the mountains of supplies and gold stacked across the vast plateau, realization struck.
It was all real.
Excitement spread like wildfire among the reinforcements. Their eyes gleamed with disbelief and joy.
"So many resources… This is unbelievable," Uchiha Sihu marveled, gazing around. "With this wealth, do we even need to care about the Fire Daimyo's purse strings anymore?"
Setsuna grinned proudly. "This is just what's been recovered so far. There's still plenty buried under the ruins."
"Haha! Then take me to Hokage-sama—I must see him at once!"
"Of course, Elder. This way."
As they climbed, Setsuna asked curiously, "By the way, why are there so many Jōnin? I thought Shikaku said the first batch would be Chūnin."
Sihu chuckled. "The Chūnin unit left first, but my group of Jōnin traveled faster. They should arrive by tomorrow morning."
"Ah, I see." Setsuna nodded.
Before long, they reached the summit, where Uchiha Fugaku was waiting with Hyuga Hiashi and several other clan heads.
"Hokage-sama!" Uchiha Sihu bowed deeply. He'd been told to address fugaku as Clan Head when alone, and Hokage when outsiders were present—he remembered it well.
Behind him, the thirty Jōnin all bowed in unison.
On their way here, they had seen the massive crater left by Fugaku's devastating jutsu. Their awe for the Fifth Hokage was absolute.
