Chapter 246 – Akihabara

"Today, I met a white-haired child," Mikoto said as she poured tea. "He looked a little older than Naruto and Sasuke, but younger than Itachi. Very polite. He even made tea for me."

A spark of recognition flickered across Fugaku's expression.

"Was his name Yakushi Kabuto?"

Mikoto blinked in surprise. "Yes! How did you know? I heard Nonō call him Kabuto."

"Heh. Your husband knows everything," Fugaku said with exaggerated pride.

Mikoto rolled her eyes, plucked a grape with slender fingers, and fed it to him with a smile.

"Alright, alright, the all-knowing husband."

She leaned against him. "So it's settled, right? Tomorrow, finish work early. I'll wait for you outside the Hokage Building, and we'll pick out gifts for the children."

"My wife has spoken. Of course." Fugaku nodded. "Just come straight up when you arrive. I'll be free."

With Shikaku handling nearly all the paperwork, Fugaku had been enjoying a suspiciously easy Hokage life—half work, half slacking off, and more gaming than a leader should admit.

"Okay."

Mikoto's smile brightened, already planning what gifts to pick.

The Next Day – Hokage Building

Mikoto arrived right on time, dressed neatly and ready for their outing. She'd already arranged for Itachi to pick up Sasuke and Naruto from the Academy; they would meet later in front of the orphanage, near the small flowerbed she and Itachi had chosen as their meeting point.

Inside the Hokage Office, Kisame knocked lightly.

"Hokage-sama, Madam has arrived."

"Finally." Fugaku stretched, nearly dozing off from waiting.

He had intended to be productive today—after yesterday's incident with the transmigrator—but Mikoto insisted they go shopping. One day's delay wasn't the end of the world.

Fugaku formed a Shadow Clone to remain behind, approve whatever documents appeared, and convincingly impersonate a responsible adult. Kisame stayed to keep watch.

The real Fugaku slipped out through the back door with Mikoto.

Akihabara – Uchiha Shopping District

The couple headed straight to the newly built shopping center—Fugaku's own pet project, modeled directly after the malls from his previous life.

A three-story building of clean lines, bright signage, and modern layout, Akihabara had only recently opened. Fugaku had poured in a mountain of money, thanks to the fortune he acquired after wiping out the Lightning Daimyō's treasury. Replicating a full mall structure had been easy.

First Floor: luxury brands, fashion shops, cosmetics, cafés, tea houses—anything that benefited from heavy foot traffic.

Second Floor: family attractions—children's playgrounds, early education centers, small cinemas.

Third Floor: themed restaurants, light dining, Japanese and Korean cuisine tailored for the village youth.

The entire center was Uchiha property.

It was not profitable yet—far from it. Villagers wandered in, browsed curiously, and left without buying anything. The concept of a "shopping mall" was brand-new to Konoha; merchants were inexperienced; and the village economy was nowhere near as abundant as Fugaku's old world.

In short, it needed time to mature.

Just like the Pansi Cave restaurant did when it first opened.

Still, Fugaku wasn't concerned about profit. He had long surpassed the need to rely on small ventures.

He built the mall simply for convenience—because it was a short walk from the Uchiha Clan Land, and because he wanted a comfortable place for Mikoto and the children to shop.

Outsiders weren't allowed into Uchiha territory, so the mall had to sit outside the clan boundary.

A branch of Pansi Cave occupied a large part of the second floor, and—unsurprisingly—it was packed daily, matching the popularity of the original store on Asakusa Street. It was the first and only store currently making money.

All other shops were losing money, but none of the merchants were worried.

Fugaku had given them:

one full year of rent waived,

significant benefits,

and a guaranteed subsidy if their businesses didn't turn a profit within three months.

With incentives that generous, only a fool would refuse.

Inside Akihabara

"Husband, it's really lively!" Mikoto held Fugaku's hand, eyes shining as she looked at the bustling first floor. "You always mentioned building a shopping center but I never came to see it. Today is my first time."

The interior was spacious, bright, full of color and movement without feeling crowded.

"Yes, we've drawn in quite a crowd." Fugaku smiled.

To be honest, he had barely visited during construction. He gave the plans, made a few comments, and assigned everything to Uchiha Shimei. The young man—son of the Great Elder—was reliable, organized, and ambitious. Perfect management material.

At first, Fugaku wanted Uchiha Yashiro to oversee it, but Yashiro declined. So Shimei, who previously handled the clan's novel-printing business, took over instead.

The couple hadn't walked long when Shimei hurried over.

"Clan Head-sama, Madam."

He bowed respectfully.

Fugaku acknowledged him with a slight nod, while Mikoto returned a polite smile.
