Chapter 276 — Sending Him Away

The prepared eyes had already arrived once the matching was confirmed.

Fifteen minutes later, the light above the operating room door chimed softly.

Hyūga Iwa, Hyūga Asa, and Hyūga Rin—all waiting anxiously in the corridor—immediately stood up.

The door slid open.

Uchiha Hidetoshi walked out calmly, as composed as ever. For him, an eye-replacement surgery was little more than routine.

Facing the tense family members, he said lightly,

"Return in two weeks to remove the bandages. Avoid spicy food in the meantime."

He turned to leave, but Hyūga Iwa quickly stepped forward.

"D-Doctor, is it a must to return? Can we… remove them ourselves?"

Uchiha Hidetoshi glanced back.

"If you feel confident there's no issue, you may remove them at home."

Ninja recovered quickly—their physical resilience far exceeded that of civilians. Kakashi's own eye transplant earlier had taken him barely a week before full functionality returned.

"Understood. Thank you."

As soon as Uchiha Hidetoshi left, Hyūga Iwa exchanged a silent look with his elder son. The two rushed into the operating room, with Hyūga Rin hurrying behind.

Inside, Hyūga Shiro was already awake, sitting at the edge of the operating bed and gently touching the fresh bandages covering his new eyes.

"Shiro, lie down," Iwa said quickly. "Your brother and I will carry you."

Shiro obeyed and lay back down.

With practiced movements, Hyūga Iwa and Hyūga Asa lifted him up and headed out immediately.

Iwa didn't dare hire a village carriage—anyone hired in Konoha could potentially be traced by the Hyūga Main Branch. Instead, he had already prepared a rented cart outside the compound. He would drive the escape himself.

Inside the carriage, Hyūga Rin spread a blanket, making sure Shiro could rest more comfortably. The journey would be long and rough.

Hyūga Iwa snapped the reins.

He had experience driving carriages, and the roads were empty at this hour.

The wheels thundered through Konoha's streets, and the family slipped past the gate without incident.

Just a routine night exit. No questions asked.

Exactly as Iwa needed.

If no guard saw Shiro leave, he could later claim ignorance. And without a Byakugan, Shiro would no longer be of much interest to the Main Branch anyway.

A pang of regret twisted in Iwa's chest.

Had he known the Main Branch was so overwhelmed lately…

Had he known they wouldn't care about a powerless branch member…

He would never have reported it.

They could've handled all of this quietly.

His son wouldn't be labeled a traitor.

His family wouldn't be risking punishment.

But it was too late.

Perhaps… if they didn't have the Caged Bird Seal branded on their foreheads, the whole family could've fled with Shiro—found peace somewhere far away.

Even Rin, who wasn't a shinobi, had been marked.

The clan feared Byakugan secrets spreading… even from civilians.

The carriage drove through the night, and by dawn, they had crossed more than a hundred miles.

They arrived at a small village. After observing from a distance, Iwa chose an honest-looking farmer—someone with a wife and children, someone unlikely to betray trust.

He paid him generously, showed a hint of shinobi strength to ensure cooperation, and asked him to deliver Shiro to a distant land—far beyond the Hyūga Main Branch's reach.

The Land of Hot Springs was tempting… but with Iwagakure and Kirigakure tensions rising, it was too dangerous.

After a quick discussion, the family chose the Land of Iron, a country of samurai, not shinobi.

Shiro could defend himself if needed.

Even without sight.

Even weakened.

Hand seals and ninjutsu didn't require eyes.

He would survive.

Hyūga Iwa, Rin, and Asa stood silently on the dirt road, watching the carriage carry Shiro away… slowly disappearing into the horizon.

"Dear… nothing bad will happen, right?"

Rin asked quietly, voice trembling.

Iwa placed a steadying hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry. He'll be fine."

He had chosen the driver carefully. A family man wouldn't risk everything. And even if he did… he wouldn't be able to defeat Shiro.

Shiro couldn't see, but he wasn't helpless.

Iwa exhaled deeply.

"Come. We need to return before noon."

Next came the hard part—

Facing the clan.

Meanwhile…

Uchiha Fugaku knew none of this.

He was having breakfast with his family.

"I'm so excited!!!" Naruto burst out, vibrating with energy.

Sasuke remained silent, but the spark in his eyes showed he was equally eager.

Fugaku chuckled.

"Today's your Team Seven's first mission, right?"

"Yes, Uncle!"

Fugaku playfully raised a fist, pretending it was a microphone.

"Na-ru-to! Na-ru-to! What is your mission today?"

Naruto tried to keep a straight face but failed miserably.

"I don't know yet! I have to ask our teacher—Itachi bro—uh—brother!"

Grinning, he shot a look at Uchiha Itachi, who was calmly eating noodles.

Fugaku had intentionally allowed Naruto and Sasuke to stay together in Team Seven.

With Itachi as their leader—plus the genius Kabuto—this team could practically walk sideways across the entire ninja world.

As long as they didn't encounter those few… very troublesome individuals.

And by "troublesome," Fugaku didn't mean Elite Jōnin.

He meant Kage-level monsters.

Even without his Mangekyō, Itachi could briefly manifest Susanoo. His ninjutsu, genjutsu, and pure technique placed him far above normal Elite Jōnin.

He stood at the threshold of half-Kage level—easily crushing elite jōnin, and able to contend with newly minted Kage with about a forty-percent win rate.

For a three-tomoe user, that was monstrous.

Meanwhile, Sasuke and Naruto were practically cheating incarnate—

reincarnations of Indra and Asura, watched over by the Sage of Six Paths himself.

Nothing was going to happen to them.

Absolutely nothing.
