Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Masumi Kamuro: He's Not Reporting Me and He's Giving Me Beer, Could He Be...

Before agreeing to the bet, Kiyomizu had indeed been on his phone for a long time. Thinking back now, that must have been when he was discussing this plan with his homeroom teacher, Sae Chabashira.

Arisu Sakayanagi suddenly realized the perfection of this setup: the homeroom teacher, an adult, legally purchased the beer, and ownership was indirectly transferred through Kiyomizu. This created an ingenious legal loophole—whether the act constituted theft or not depended entirely on the subjective determination of the owner.

"Such a... flawless path to victory," she said, her voice trembling slightly with unwillingness, yet mixed with undeniable admiration. What was most impressive wasn't the plan itself, but the fact that Kiyomizu had laid this inescapable trap before even agreeing to the bet. He had prepared a guaranteed winning strategy the very moment she issued her challenge.

The plan was so perfect it made her feel inadequate. First, her proud nature would never have allowed her to ask a teacher for help. Second, she had been too focused on her competition with Kiyomizu and had overlooked a fundamental review of the rules.

"I concede," Arisu Sakayanagi looked up, forcing a smile. "Let's add each other as friends. The 100,000 points... I'll transfer them to you now."

"Alright," Kiyomizu raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised. He had expected her to press for more details, but on second thought, with Sakayanagi's intelligence, she had probably already figured out the entire scheme.

After they exchanged contact information, 100,000 points were instantly transferred to his account. "A net profit of 80,000 points on the first day of school. Not a bad feeling," Kiyomizu said, a pleased smile on his lips. After deducting the 10,000-point errand fee for Chabashira and the cost of the beer, it was indeed a substantial income. More importantly, he had successfully given this proud, silver-haired girl a taste of defeat.

But... would she hold a grudge against him for this?

Just as he was pondering this, he met Arisu Sakayanagi's complex gaze. Her eyes were a mixture of confusion, unwillingness, and an indescribable emotion.

"I really don't understand," she said, her voice wavering slightly for the first time. "With your intellect, how did you end up in Class D?"

"I didn't do so well in the interview," Kiyomizu said dismissively, naturally not mentioning the absurd truth of his transmigration.

"...How badly could you have possibly done?! To the point of being in Class D! ...Wait, don't tell me the interviewer just didn't like you and gave you a low score! In any case, I will investigate this matter thoroughly." Sakayanagi's voice turned cold in an instant, but when she looked up at Kiyomizu again, her usual elegant smile had returned. "Kiyomizu-kun, I won't lose next time."

"You're welcome to try anytime," Kiyomizu shrugged casually, "as long as you prepare an interesting game and enough points." He certainly wouldn't refuse this kind of voluntary "sponsorship."

However, the girl's earlier statement about "investigating thoroughly" had caught his attention. Why was she suddenly using the tone of the school administration? Did Class A have some kind of special privileges? Could it be that this seemingly frail young lady was actually the chairman's beloved daughter, or even his direct granddaughter? If that were the case, had he just offended the daughter of a high-ranking school official on the very first day?

...

Meanwhile, Masumi Kamuro tried to act calm as she blended in with the other students. The can of beer in her bag felt strangely heavy, as if it would fall through the thin fabric at any moment, exposing her to everyone.

(Did someone see me just now?)

She glanced to the side, her peripheral vision scanning behind her. A few blurry figures moved between the shelves. No one stopped, no one looked her way.

(Was it... my imagination?)

She let out a soft breath and quickened her pace the moment she stepped through the convenience store's automatic doors. The cool summer breeze filled her lungs, slightly easing the tightness in her chest. Feeling the cold touch of the beer can in her bag, a strange thrill surged through her, and the corners of her mouth turned up unconsciously.

(Success again!)

She cheered silently, a subtle sweet taste on her tongue. This was far from the first time. Ever since that stuffy afternoon in middle school when she had first stuffed an eraser from the stationery store into her uniform pocket, the thrill of her heart nearly beating out of her chest had been deeply etched into her memory.

She had just taken a step when an unfamiliar male voice called out from behind her— "Kamuro-san, wait a second."

Her spine went rigid, and her blood felt like it had frozen in that instant.

(Did... did he see me?)

Slowly turning around, she was met with the sight of an unfamiliar male student. "You have something in your bag, don't you?" His gaze landed lightly on her shoulder bag.

Masumi Kamuro's throat felt tight, but her face remained impassive. "...What are you talking about? I don't understand."

The male student took a step forward. "Your technique is pretty clean. Probably not your first time, huh? But why beer? Do you like drinking that much?"

(...This guy! He even knows what I stole?!)

Her pupils contracted, her heart clenching. This was the first time in her life she had been caught red-handed.

"Take it... If you're going to report me, do it now!" She yanked the can of beer from her bag and thrust it at him, almost defiantly.

He was taken aback for a moment, then an amused and exasperated expression crossed his face. "...Wait, why are you handing me the evidence? You sure surrendered quickly."

"Enough!" She turned her face away, the tips of her ears turning red with shame and anger. "You saw the whole thing anyway, didn't you?!"

"Are you really a Class A student?" the male student suddenly sized her up with a strange look. "This on-the-spot reaction... you seem more like you belong in my class."

Masumi Kamuro's temples throbbed.

(How does he know my class? And my name?!)

What angered her even more was his expression—that look of astonishment mixed with a hint of disdain. Was he looking down on her reaction?!

"What do you want?! If you're not going to report me, I'll contact the school myself!" Her voice rose slightly, the beer can deforming under her grip.

"I never had any intention of reporting you. In fact, I'm here to give you your cut," he suddenly chuckled and unzipped his own shoulder bag.

Clank! Clank!

A dozen cans of beer rolled onto the ground. "Thanks to you, I made a small profit—100,000 points in total." He shrugged. "I don't drink. Here, they're all yours. You seem to like beer."

"...Huh?!" Masumi Kamuro's eyes widened, staring at the pile of beer on the ground, her brain temporarily short-circuiting.

(He's not reporting me... and he's giving me beer? My cut? What did I do?! And he earned 100,000 points? What kind of idiot would lose to this guy!)

He turned to leave, then stopped and held up a hand. "Let me give you a few lessons while I'm at it."

"First, I already bought all that beer you took, so technically, it wasn't stealing."

"Second, you can buy anything at this school with points. You could have just bought off this 'theft' from the school administration."

"Third, you could have just used points to bribe any witnesses or buy the convenience store's security footage. There are many ways to solve a problem... Don't let others get leverage on you."

Masumi Kamuro stood frozen, the beer can in her hand creaking under her tight grip.

(These loopholes... why is he telling me all this?)

(He's not reporting me, he's giving me beer... he even helped me avoid the consequences of theft... He's actually a nice guy!)

Watching his retreating back, an absurd thought suddenly flashed through her mind—

"Wait a minute... could he be..."
