Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Today's Intel: The Leader of First-Year Class C is Kakeru Ryuen

Kushida's fingers flew across the screen: "Thank you for the information~ I'm Kikyo Kushida from First-Year Class D. How can I thank you?"

The moment the message was sent, the "typing..." indicator appeared.

Yue Qing: No need for thanks.

Kushida continued typing: "By the way! Which class are you in? And how did you find my account?"

The chat was silent for a few seconds, then a final message popped up: "Well... that's not very convenient to say. I'm going to take a shower now."

Kiyomizu pressed the send button and exited the chat interface without hesitation. He had never actually chatted with Kushida online. Although they had added each other as friends early on, they had never exchanged a single word. This contact was merely to carry out the task assigned by their homeroom teacher. Now that the key information had been delivered, the conversation was over.

He knew Kushida's personality all too well. The girl who was so popular in class might turn around and use this conversation as gossip. If she were to trace his identity... He wasn't worried about the information leak itself; such transactions were commonplace on campus. But if those noisy classmates found out, he would inevitably be pestered for details. The mere thought of them crowding around him, chattering away, made his temples throb.

"Troublesome," he muttered, double-checking his chat history with her. This carefully disguised account was an important asset. It would be very useful in future dealings with Class A and negotiations with Class B and C. It would be a huge loss if it were compromised because of a leak from Kushida's end. Maintaining secrecy was the key to long-term success.

...

[Ding! Today's intelligence has been updated.]

[Intel 1: The leader of First-Year Class C is Kakeru Ryuen.]

[Intel 2: Kohei Katsuragi of First-Year Class A suffers from alopecia.]

[Intel 3: Tonight at 7:55 PM, Suzune Horikita will be punished by force by Manabu Horikita behind the first-year dormitories.]

Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM sharp, the daily intel updated as scheduled. After several days of accumulation, Kiyomizu had begun to consciously categorize the information:

The highest level was undoubtedly intel that predicted future events, such as the dispute between Kushida and Koenji over a bus seat, or Kamuro's attempt to shoplift beer.

The next level was information about the school itself and the overall situation of each class.

The least valuable was the personal privacy of his classmates.

Today's haul was pretty good—one piece of intel about Class C, one predicting a future event, and one piece of personal information. Kiyomizu began to mentally integrate the clues he had gathered over the past few days.

(It seems that besides Class D, the other classes have already established clear leaders.)

Class A's situation was the clearest—Arisu Sakayanagi and Kohei Katsuragi were jointly in control. Masumi Kamuro had personally told him that.

The leader of Class B was undoubtedly Honami Ichinose. After all, Chie Hoshinomiya had explicitly stated in front of him that she was the class representative.

As for Class C, the intel had directly provided the answer—Kakeru Ryuen. Kiyomizu didn't yet know what kind of person he was or how he had taken control of Class C.

And Class D... the situation was a bit more nuanced. On the surface, Yosuke Hirata and Kikyo Kushida were quite influential, but it was more accurate to call them "core figures" rather than "leaders." Their prestige was more like a naturally formed cohesive force than true authority. There was a fundamental difference between a "core figure" and a "true leader." A true leader must understand that being disliked by some is normal, that enforcing discipline is a duty, and that there is an invisible line between a subordinate and a leader.

In contrast, the two "core figures" of Class D: Hirata always maintained his "nice guy" persona, not even daring to take a clear stance. Kushida was obsessed with maintaining a false sense of harmony, covering up all conflicts with a smile. This pursuit of superficial harmony exposed their fundamental leadership deficiencies.

(The reason Class D is still a mess is probably because it lacks a true "helmsman"...)

(...So that was Teacher Chabashira's true intention...)

Kiyomizu thought back to the deeper game behind yesterday's transaction. As the homeroom teacher, Sae Chabashira had keenly noticed the two counterbalancing core figures in Class D, Hirata and Kushida. She had deliberately asked him to "inform only one person" to see which side he would lean towards.

(That 1,000,000-point deal was essentially a leadership assessment.)

No matter who received the information, they would inevitably use it to consolidate their position, their popularity and prestige surpassing the other. However, Kiyomizu had no interest in the power struggles of Class D.

He was actually more shocked by the third piece of intel.

(Hmm? What does it mean Suzune Horikita gets beaten up by her brother, Manabu Horikita?)

(Are the siblings that dysfunctional?)

(He's the student council president. What does it mean he's breaking the school rules?)

...

Time flew by, and soon it was after school. The noise in the classroom was suddenly interrupted by a crisp clap. "Everyone, can I have a moment of your time?"

Kikyo Kushida was standing at the podium, lightly adjusting her skirt and wearing her signature sweet smile.

"Of course!"

"What is it, Kushida-chan?"

The girls responded enthusiastically. She clearly had high popularity among them—this natural affinity was her capital for thriving in the girls' social circle.

"Actually..." Kushida deliberately paused, waiting for the whole class's attention before lowering her voice. "I accidentally learned a shocking secret from someone else yesterday." She took a deep breath, her eyes suddenly becoming very serious. "Besides personal points, the school also has something called 'class points.' And—if our class points drop to zero, no one will receive any personal points next month!"

"Ah... that..."

"We already know that, Kushida-chan."

However, the class-wide shock she had anticipated didn't happen. Instead, a series of disinterested responses echoed through the classroom. Yosuke Hirata stood up awkwardly, scratching his cheek apologetically. "Sorry, Kushida-san. Actually, after I learned about this from another source yesterday, I already discussed it with some of our classmates..."

(Damn it...)

Kushida cursed inwardly. Her carefully prepared "bombshell revelation" had turned into old news that Hirata had already disclosed. What bothered her more was—where did Hirata get his information from?
