Mana transfer, in essence, was the act of obtaining magical energy from an external source. Strictly speaking, absorbing the magical energy from the 'pendant' could also be called 'mana transfer'. But the method his body had just recalled was fundamentally about opening a previously blocked magical energy link through bodily fluids. Of course, that wasn't the only method he remembered; there were others, like 'crest transfer'.
"For me right now, none of these seem very useful…"
"Oh well, no point in getting hung up on it now."
Do what needs to be done. That was the Senji Muramasa way of life. He didn't rest. Instead, he went outside and took out a few suitable pieces of material.
Preparations complete—
Now that the materials were ready and his spirit was high, there was only one thing for a blacksmith to do.
FWOOSH~!
CLANG, CLANG, CLANG…
Time flowed to the rhythm of the forging hammer.
…
On a small path outside the village
In the Yashiro Commission's carriage, Ayaka was reviewing the night's events with the young man with light blue hair.
"And that is how it went, brother." Ayaka recounted the entire conversation, including her final, spontaneous idea. "I am sorry. In the end, I made a decision on my own."
He shook his head, with no intention of blaming his sister. "It is no matter." Whether as her older brother or as the current head of the Yashiro Commission, since he had let her handle it, he had to accept whatever the outcome.
"The situation is volatile right now. Taking risks is unavoidable. The Kanjou and Tenryou Commissions are colluding. Preparations for that proposal have begun. In ten days, the 'Vision Hunt Decree' will officially begin."
The Yashiro Commission was currently weak. Before the Shogun, they were no match for the other two commissions. In that case, making moves outside the board was inevitable.
…
The next day, at the Tenryou Commission Headquarters
Kujou Sara stood before Kujou Takayuki, reading the decree he had handed her. Even she, who could maintain an emotionless facade, couldn't help but frown at the contents of the paper.
"Is this the Shogun's will?" she asked, a rare question, her eyes fixed on the Commissioner before her.
"The Shogun's seal is on it. Could it be a fake?" Kujou Takayuki was full of confidence, his left hand stroking the prayer beads in his hand. He had replaced his proper chair with a grand official's chair at some point. He was now rocking back and forth while enjoying a late-night snack with his right hand. He popped almonds into his mouth one by one, but they couldn't seem to fill his stomach. He would chew them a few times before swallowing the crushed nuts, then repeat the process.
"Is this your will, or the Shogun's will?" she asked again, putting down the paper as if she couldn't accept it.
"Sara, you have a lot of talent." The man in the grand chair didn't answer directly. He just leaned his head back. "But you're too upright, too by-the-book. But this world isn't as reasonable as you think. Whose will it is doesn't matter. What matters is that it passed, which means the Shogun agreed."
Even if all three commissions passed it, if the Shogun didn't agree, could this decree be approved? There was no falsehood in his words, no flaw in the procedure. The die was cast. And Kujou Takayuki knew his adopted daughter's rigid nature would only allow her to push this far.
"I understand." Kujou Sara said no more. She forcibly smoothed her knitted brow, bowed, and turned to leave.
…
Another day later, it was the day for the Amenoma Smithy to submit the offering blade.
Normally, someone from the Yashiro Commission would have come to inspect it. But today, the Amenoma Smithy received a rare guest.
"Lady... Guuji..." Amenoma Juugo, upon seeing the visitor, hurriedly pulled his apprentice Tougo to bow with him.
The visitor had a head of smooth, fine pink hair that flowed past her waist. A pair of fluffy, folded ears twitched at her temples, the pendants on them letting out a light, crisp sound. "No need to be so alarmed~"
She rested one hand on her hip, using it as a support for her other elbow. Her propped-up forearm gently stroked her chin, her slender fingers covering her red lips. Her gaze didn't fall on the offering blade.
"My lady, is the offering blade to your satisfaction?" The two smiths didn't even dare to look directly at the Guuji. It was only after they spoke that she glanced at the blade.
"Hmm, not bad. Up to the usual standard." This, at least, was a sincere compliment, which calmed the two men's racing hearts. However, after saying this, she walked past the blade and approached the one Muramasa had forged.
"What is this sword called?" Her fingertips touched the hilt of the demon blade, and she felt a numbing sensation, making her instinctively pull back. It absorbed a little of my elemental power… interesting.
"My lady, that is not my sword. It is being temporarily stored here by another," Tougo, seeing the Guuji's intention to touch the sword, gathered his courage and spoke up. "So, please do not touch it. It would put me in a difficult position!"
His master, Juugo, rationally wanted to stop him but emotionally agreed with him. His hand, poised to deliver an elbow jab, froze in mid-air and ultimately didn't fall.
"My, how rude of me." She watched their complex expressions and reactions with amusement and took a small step back. "Well then, can you answer my question now?"
"Yes." Amenoma Juugo spoke before Tougo could. "This sword is named Yaegaki Muramasa."
"Yaegaki?" she repeated, followed by a short, soft laugh. "I suppose it wasn't named to flatter me."
"Indeed," Juugo continued. "He said it was taken from a legend in his homeland."
As he spoke, the figure before him clearly stiffened. But since he didn't dare to look up, he naturally didn't see it.
"...Tch." His answer had hit the mark, in a bad way. "You two, master and apprentice, you're both so 'eloquent'." She was a client, after all. It was only natural to flatter her. The Amenoma legacy probably passed down more than just their techniques; it passed down their mouths too.
"However, this sword is truly interesting." She had only come by on a whim because of what the Yashiro Commission had said and the rumors circulating in the city the other day. She hadn't expected to find something so interesting. "That Kamisato boy, he must have anticipated this, didn't he? Too clever, it's a little annoying."
She didn't take the offering blade but walked straight out of the shop, muttering to herself, "Going there directly is a bit boring. Hehe, I have an idea..."
Her figure flickered and disappeared from the streets of Inazuma. A moment later, a strange, pink fox suddenly appeared in the forest outside Muramasa's residence.
