Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Reclamation, from the Hands of the Oppressor

The warm and comfortable upper fortress of Kalliston.

In an office paved with rare and precious wood from Chemos, Herod was leisurely receiving report after report from his subordinates.

Since the assassination of the old patriarch, he had successfully captured his siblings who also coveted the position, using his own patrol force, and had become the true de facto ruler of Kalliston Fortress.

The process was not easy, but the result was worth it.

"You're all dismissed for now, Raul. If the workers protest again, just take more shock batons and guards with you."

He leisurely commanded the sloppily dressed, strange-looking lackey before him.

Although this man's demeanor was a bit foolish and his behavior was crazy, he was a good fighter and fiercely loyal, and he got things done properly.

"Yes, Master."

As the subordinate left, the entire room belonged to him alone again.

That woman Fulgrim is so stupid.

Leaning back in his leather chair, looking at the exquisite decorations around him, Herod couldn't help but sneer.

Improving machine production was indeed a good thing.

But unfortunately, the first thing she thought of after increasing production efficiency was not them, the nobles, but those lowly workers.

Giving away precious resources to the poor was one thing, but she also spent a lot of time teaching them literacy and art, saying something about "bringing beauty back to Chemos"?

What a waste.

He had originally planned to "educate" her properly after the marriage alliance, to make her recognize the reality that people are not born equal.

He never thought that not only would she not appreciate it, but she would stubbornly choose to get engaged to that waste of space, Kasjia!

If this continued, wouldn't the workers all become lazy bums, not thinking about how to work every day, but instead studying some useless drama and philosophy?

They would be no different from the nobles!

Then how could they display their noble status? How could they even be called nobles?

It was all thanks to him, Herod, who used a scheme to disrupt the engagement ceremony and successfully drive a wedge between Fulgrim and the workers, making those idiots think that Fulgrim had betrayed them.

And after seizing power, he immediately ordered the workers' working hours to be gradually restored to their previous levels.

The lower class should serve them, the upper class, forever, not ridiculously invest their energy in artistic creation.

This was an utter waste of resources.

He would reclaim those precious resources wasted on the workers and embellish them as the products of the nobility.

As for the two who were still at large...

Since she had lost the people's trust, no matter how powerful Fulgrim was now, she probably couldn't stir up any trouble.

Tsk.

It's a pity about that perfect face of hers, though.

"Report!"

Just as he was still scheming about the two of them in his mind, the office door burst open.

Raul, who had just left the room, rushed in with a big, uneven yellow-toothed grin and an embarrassed smile, and knelt down.

It startled him.

"Slow down, Raul, slow down."

"Perhaps you really should learn some proper etiquette, just like those rioting workers."

Herod complained, rubbing his forehead.

"Speak. What is it?"

"It's Fulgrim! We found her!"

"Oh?" He straightened up, suddenly interested. "Finally... after chasing her for so long, we can finally capture her."

His patrol team wasn't completely useless after all.

"Tell me, Raul. Where is that woman now?"

"She..."

"She's right outside your door, Master."

It's not a pleasant feeling to have a knife at your throat.

Especially when it's held by a nearly 3-meter-tall demigod.

"Fulgrim, what exactly do you want?"

Herod's tone was fierce on the outside but cowardly on the inside.

The battle had ended quickly.

Faced with the sudden attacker, he immediately organized his most trusted inspector squad to fight back.

These guys were all skilled fighters, some of whom could even take on an entire patrol team single-handedly without losing.

They swarmed her, and even if Fulgrim was tall and naturally strong, she shouldn't have been able to handle their siege.

That's how it was supposed to be.

But then, he watched as his elite subordinates fell in droves at an extremely fast speed.

What Fulgrim displayed was an extremely elegant and swift style of swordsmanship.

Under her incomparably precise movements, not even the most skilled swordsman in Kalliston could last more than a single move.

Many of them didn't even see their opponent's movements before their weapons were sent flying.

Herod didn't understand how this nearly 3-meter-tall giant could possess such fast sword skills.

But that was the reality.

The disparity in strength between them was so great that all his previous schemes had become a joke.

As for the first and last time he saw the cold glint of her blade clearly, it was when it was pressed against his own neck.

How many heads do you think you have, trying to fight Fulgrim in close combat? Did you think this was Nuceria and she was Angron?

"Fulgrim, you... you dare to provoke the nobility with brute force!" Herod's face was a mixture of shock and uncertainty.

He had really underestimated his opponent's strength.

But seeing that she only knocked the weapons out of the patrol's hands without harming them, he gained a little courage to shout.

She must still be wary of the nobles' methods.

She should be wary.

"I'm warning you, Fulgrim."

"The other nobles on Kalliston have all formed an alliance with me. If you dare to harm us, the entire fortress will fall!"

"Oh?"

She raised an eyebrow slightly.

Herod snorted coldly. "We have control of the fortress's facilities! If you dare to lay a hand on me, on the nobility, without our leadership—"

"The angry people will surely deliver melta bombs and the fortress's design schematics to those outside the city, letting the remnants of other noble families avenge me!"

"Hahaha! When the time comes, we'll blow up the fortress! We'll all just die together!"

A hint of madness flashed in Herod's eyes.

"Outsiders! That's right, the outsiders!"

"Give the big bombs to the Sulpha people outside the city!" Raul chimed in with a strange cry at the right moment.

"You idiot, Raul! I never said it was the Sulpha!"

"The Sulpha?"

For a rare moment, Fulgrim's expression became grave.

The Sulpha were the largest nomadic tribe on the planet Chemos.

If Jaghatai Khan had landed on Chemos as expected, he probably would have been a carefree biker among the Sulpha.

It was just a pity that reality was always a series of mistakes.

Due to some machinations of the Warp, the one who ended up landing on Chemos was Fulgrim, who was found by the workers of Kalliston Fortress.

As for combat, the Sulpha were all skilled fighters.

Relying on excellent swordsmen and scrap-bikes assembled from ancient machinery, their combat prowess remained formidable even while surviving in the harsh wasteland of yellow sand.

If they got their hands on melta bombs and the fortress map, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Even if Fulgrim was not afraid, the Kalliston Fortress, lacking combat strength, would very likely fall.

"The guys you arranged to cause trouble before, they were the Sulpha, weren't they?" she asked coldly.

"...I don't know what you're talking about."

"If you want to kill me, then kill me. If you can accept the fortress falling into internal strife and eventually being lost due to the lack of noble leadership."

Herod turned his head away and closed his eyes, looking like a righteous warrior heroically facing death.

"No," she shook her head. "You seem to have misunderstood something."

"I never said I was going to kill you."

As she spoke, she sheathed her gleaming sword.

The elegant and perfect Primarch would not choose such crude methods to conquer Kalliston.

That was the way of tyrants and dictators.

And she, Fulgrim, had her own unique methods.

"Herod, I'm just here to invite you to watch a play."

She said with a smile.
