Chapter 8 - The Queens Funeral

the 7 thousand Babylonian soldiers, seeing their beloved Queen Bela, Dead on the ground, with a Persian soldier with an evil-ish smile looked at her dead body, with the sword he used to do it in his right hand, Became more enraged than they have ever been, their grip on their swords getting tighter and one of them yelled with rage in his voice:

Babylonian Soldier 1: "How dare you kill our queen you damn evil Persians!"

Babylonian Soldier 2: "you will pay for doing this to our queen! we will massacre you all for this!"

after the soldiers started yelling at the Persians with rage, some of them with tears coming out of their eyes, seeing their dead queen, they would charge towards the 20 thousand Persian soldiers, not caring if they died or that the Persians had 13 thousand more soldiers than they had, the Babylonian soldiers attacked the Persians with rage managed to massacre about 5,000 of the Persians soldiers, with almost no casualties for the Babylonian army, despite their army having less soldiers than the Persians, they were easily beating the Persian Soldiers, the Persian Soldiers would start fleeing, which would be a big mistake for them, General Naram would yell

General Naram: "Archers! Shoot!"

but then they realized there were archers waiting for them to start fleeing, arrows would be shot towards all of the 15 thousand Persian Soldiers left, killing another 5 thousand of them, striking fear to the 10 thousand remaining Persian soldiers, the remaining 10 thousand Persian soldiers managed to escape from Babylon, quickly fleeing from the city, but the 7 thousand Babylonian soldiers followed them into Persia, planning to kill their queen as revenge, they invaded western Persia, but the Persians managed to push back the Babylonians to their border, they signed a peace treaty, giving Babylon some Persian lands, and paying Babylon for any damages done to Babylonian soil, but they would still be in debt to Babylon, for what the Persians did to their queen

As King Lugal was celebrating his victory against the Persians, drinking wine with nobles and generals and partying with them, Naram entered the room looking down at the ground sad, King Lugal looked concerned, but smiled trying to keep the mood nice and then asked

King Lugal: "What's wrong General Naram? with the help of the Gods we won the war and beat those damn Persians! why be so sad?"

General Naram, with a sad tone said

General Naram: "W-Well your highness.."

King Lugal looked even more concerned seeing the tone in General Naram's voice

King Lugal: "Spit it out, what happened?"

He asked, getting more and more concerned on what happened to make General Naram so sad

General Naram: "Well, when we got there.. we saw that the queen was cut in her throat by a Persian soldier... Queen Bela.. She is dead.."

King Lugal's eyes widened, dropping his cup of wine, tears starting coming out of his eyes, while the Babylonian nobles who he were Partying before, now looked shocked and sad, with their eyes widened, a lot of them tearing up like the king was too, King Lugal walked towards Naram and tightly grabbed his collar with a mix of anger and sadness

King Lugal: "Why didn't you guys do anything! tell me why!"

he said shaking General Naram, with sadness in his voice

General Naram: "If we could, we would have, we arrived too late to do anything, right when we arrived, we saw it happen..."

King Lugal quickly let go of the generals collar, wiping his tears

King Lugal: "forgive me General Naram, my emotions got the better of me.."

General Naram: "Don't apologize your highness, i understand how you feel, we should have done better and got there faster..."

King Lugal: "What about my Daughter.. Princess Amira.. is she at least alright?.."

General Naram: "Yes she is, but she sadly had to watch her own mother die in front of her own eyes though, she might have some trauma because of that now"

King Lugal still sad, smiled and sighed in relief realizing that at least his daughter is still alright

King Lugal: "That's a relief, at least she is still alive, i am happy that she is alright"

King Lugal would host a funeral for his wife, all the nobles, Generals, Commanders, Soldiers and (most)civilians would be there, mourning their Queen's death, after an hour, everyone besides King Lugal and his daughter Princess Amira, looking at his wife's grave, with tears coming from his eyes, King Lugal dropped on his knees, crying even more feeling more comfortable to cry since everyone was gone

King Lugal: "Why didn't you just stay in the palace, why didn't you just stay in the palace, more safe than ever! why! why! why!"

he said, punching the dirt on her grave, tears falling on the dirt while he punched it out of a mix of sadness and rage, while princess Amira who was behind him was crying, seeing her mother die at such a young age, her seeing it happen with her own two eyes when it happened traumatized her even more

King Lugal: "I will not accept any of this! i wasn't i there to protect you! my love..."

he said, still crying, after 3 minutes of crying near her grave, he got up, still sad, dropped flowers on her grave, he grabbed his daughter, Princess Amira's hand and walked with her back to the palace, they would play together all day, hoping she would forget about what happened to her mother, but also try and make himself forget about it, the King bought Princess Amira multiple books to help her cope and have something to do in her spare time when he wasn't there to spend time with her, the things he bought her would make her forget about it for a little, but for the whole year, she would still be sad about her mother dying, the moment where her mother got killed while she just watched wouldn't stop repeating in her head, only after she turned 7, she could start forgetting about it, but she would never stop feeling sad because of what happened
