Chapter 4 - The Crimson Sect Moves

Chapter 4:

Far to the north, in the Bloodspire Mountains, the Crimson Sect gathered beneath a sky stained red with ritual smoke. Their temple was carved into the mountain itself, a fortress of bone and obsidian.

The Grandmaster sat upon a throne of skulls, his eyes glowing with malice. Before him knelt Yue Ling, the youngest prodigy of the sect. Her mask was porcelain, her voice like ice.

"The sigil has activated," she said. "The boy lives."

The Grandmaster's fingers twitched. "Then the prophecy is true. The Absolute Being has returned."

"But not whole," Yue Ling said. "He is fractured. Vulnerable."

The Grandmaster smiled. "Then send the Shadow Envoys. Bring me his heart. We will consume his soul and ascend beyond the Dao itself."

Yue Ling bowed and turned to leave. But as she walked through the temple halls, she paused before a mural — one depicting Veyron's fall.

She touched the image gently.

"I wonder," she whispered, "if the boy remembers what he once was."
