Chapter 50 - Transfer Me 50 Million

"I really don't know."

Bai Ye was being honest with George's questioning. He had no clue why those vampires were chasing him.

"And Gwen? Where is she?"

"Gwen? Don't worry, I sent her back in advance." Bai Ye assured him, then leaned in, familiar with the drill. "So, are we going to follow procedure and take me back to the precinct for questioning? After all, several thousand… humans infected by Mutants died."

As he spoke, Bai Ye surveyed his surroundings. The ground was soaked in blood, and scattered corpses were still visible. Buildings were damaged everywhere. This was going to be a huge bill for repairs.

"No need. You can go home. We'll call you if we need you." George said.

Thinking about the phone calls from General Ross and the higher-ups, it was clear that regardless of Bai Ye's wishes, they planned to use him as a primary propaganda tool to downplay the Mutants' impact.

"Although you don't have to take responsibility for the damage, you might still need to pay a fine for the environmental damage. Of course, we'll also give you a reward for your heroic actions, along with a medal for being a proud citizen," George said. Bai Ye was speechless.

It's so realistic; even Superheroes have to pay for the damage to the streets after a fight.

"I'll cover all the losses of this Superhero," a deep male voice announced from the side. George turned his head, and his expression shifted slightly.

The newcomer was a super-sized, chubby man. He was two meters tall, wearing a white suit that was stretched taut over his massive frame. He was using a slender cane and was steadily approaching.

"Who is this?" Bai Ye feigned ignorance.

But seeing the fat man, he recognized the newcomer even faster than George did. The underground emperor who ruled the entire American Underworld, Wilson Grant Fisk, also known as Kingpin.

Ninety percent of his body was muscle, and his physical attributes absolutely surpassed those of humans. Spider-Man called him Little Kingpin, and he was the nemesis of all the street heroes in New York City.

It could only be said that tonight was truly a gathering of the winds and clouds. All sorts of powerful figures had focused their attention here, each with their own calculations.

George's expression darkened slightly as he introduced Bai Ye: "This is Mr. Fisk, a well-known philanthropist in New York, and a major contender in this mayoral election."

He hadn't planned to explain Kingpin's glorious deeds to Bai Ye, not wanting to involve him. However, he didn't know that while he was at odds with vice, gambling, and drugs, Bai Ye had long since become one with them.

To George's astonishment, Bai Ye walked forward with a smile, saying, "Mr. Fisk, did you just say you'd help me pay for the damage to the street? I really don't know how to accept."

George: ???

"Of course. As a part of New York City, I can't let superheroes bleed and cry. Since you've put in the effort, I'm only contributing a small amount of money. It's what I should do."

Kingpin, leaning on his cane, wore a smile, exuding the aura of a wealthy man in every gesture.

In fact, he didn't even need to intervene. After Bai Ye demonstrated extraordinary martial prowess as a pure human, the ripple effect would inevitably lead to a large number of wealthy people wanting to attach themselves to Bai Ye's name.

It had been the same during the bank robbery. Many people wanted to contact Bai Ye through various connections, asking him for endorsements. However, back then, Bai Ye's strength was still weak, so he directly severed contact with the outside world. Now, he didn't need to be so cautious.

"Mr. Fisk's awareness is high. He truly deserves to be a well-known philanthropist in New York, a great benefactor. If everyone had your level of awareness, the security of New York City would certainly take a step up," Bai Ye began to engage in some commercial flattery towards Kingpin right in front of George.

And then, the two men's "coincidental" conversation was recorded by the still-present reporters with their cameras. Tomorrow's headlines would undoubtedly include a headline like "Superhero Saves New York, Mayoral Candidate Generously Donates."

"I've actually admired Superheroes for a long time. I was wondering if you might have some time; I'd like to treat you to a meal," Kingpin said, a gentle smile plastered across his plump face. Anyone unfamiliar with him would likely think he was a genuinely good person.

"Of course, no problem. I have time right now. Shall we go?" Bai Ye said, eager, thinking of a certain possibility.

Then, under George's increasingly twitchy gaze, Bai Ye and Kingpin found themselves getting along like a house on fire, practically on the verge of becoming sworn brothers.

Seeing them about to get into a black car and leave, he finally couldn't help but say, "Bai Ye, wait a moment."

"What's wrong, Director? Didn't you say I could leave?" Bai Ye asked, turning around. Kingpin, in the car, also turned his gaze, and while his face still held a smile, his eyes were icy cold, hoping the Director wouldn't ruin his plans.

Being stared at by both of them, George's mouth twitched before he said, "Be careful."

"Of course. Director, take care. I'll come to your house to play with Gwen in a few days," Bai Ye consoled him. But this made George feel even more heartbroken; it would have been better if he hadn't come at all.

Hearing that Bai Ye had a connection with the Director's family, Kingpin's originally cold eyes immediately softened, and the small thought of warning the other party vanished instantly.

Watching the black car slowly drive away and disappear into the distance, George felt a pang of disappointment. He waved his hand, signaling to the officers to clean up the mess.

Inside the car, Bai Ye had the driver pull over in a secluded spot. After picking up Camilla, who had been waiting, they started driving towards Kingpin's residence.

On the way, Bai Ye's previously amiable expression gradually returned to its usual calm. He looked at Kingpin, who was sitting steadily beside him, and said, "Mr. Fisk, you must have a reason for asking me to come."

"Of course. As the previous Police Commissioner, George, mentioned, I intend to compete for the position of Mayor of New York City this term," Kingpin said humbly.

But Bai Ye instantly understood what the other person meant: He wanted Bai Ye to endorse him, which was similar to George's previous request.

"I understand, I understand," Bai Ye said with a knowing expression, then his face immediately turned serious. "This is simple for me. First, transfer me 50 million to show your sincerity."

Transfer... 50 million to show sincerity? Even Kingpin's expression couldn't help but twitch. Looking at Bai Ye, who was making a ridiculously high demand, he didn't know what to say for a moment.

"Yes, as long as you pay enough, I guarantee you'll become the Mayor of New York City this time," Bai Ye said confidently.
