Chapter 58 - Rogue

New York, Fifth Avenue.

Outside St. Patrick's Cathedral, a constant stream of people came and went.

In stark contrast to the bustling scene, a girl completely shrouded in a black robe walked alone in a deserted alley.

She gently lowered the hood, revealing a cute face with a baby-fat look. It was Mary, also known as Rogue, the girl Charles had asked Bai Ye to help.

Fifteen days had passed since she awakened her Mutant ability. She often saw news reports about Mutants causing chaos, and she never imagined she would become one herself.

Especially with her power. Anyone she touched would invariably lose their strength and collapse. It was like a curse, forcing her to stay away from people to avoid hurting them.

"Found you."

Just as Rogue was hurrying along, a raspy voice came from the front of the alley.

She looked up and saw a tall man, dressed in ragged clothes like a wild man, with a ferocious appearance, blocking the entrance. He was staring at her with the eyes of a predator.

Especially noticeable were the four sharp fangs in his open mouth, like those of a large feline.

Looking at the man in front of her, who didn't seem easy to deal with, Rogue instinctively took two steps back and asked timidly, "Hello, may I ask what you want?"

"Our boss just needs you." Sabretooth looked at Rogue, who had nowhere to run, and said in an extremely relaxed tone, "I hope you'll come with me willingly, or you'll have to suffer."

Before Sabretooth could finish speaking, Rogue, sensing the danger, turned and fled behind her like a frightened little beast.

Watching the girl rush through the alley, Sabretooth pursued her with an extremely relaxed expression.

Magneto had already told him about the girl's ability. It was just ability absorption. As long as she didn't touch him, she was just an ordinary girl and wouldn't be able to escape his grasp.

Rogue ran, glancing back at the figure relentlessly pursuing her. That scruffy savage was incredibly fast; it wouldn't be long before he caught her.

10 meters… 5 meters… 3 meters…

Seeing the girl so close, Sabretooth's eyes flashed with a vicious light. It wouldn't do to have this little girl causing trouble on the way back; it looked like he'd have to teach her a lesson first.

Thinking this, Sabretooth leaped high, his five long fingernails rapidly elongating, turning into sharp bone claws, which then slashed towards Rogue's Achilles tendons.

But just before contact, his beastly instincts sensed danger, and a terrifying sense of threat rapidly approached from above.

What the hell? Sabretooth instinctively looked up, only to see a shoe rapidly enlarging in his vision, then stomping down hard on his spine.

Sabretooth felt as if a several-dozen-ton road roller had run over his back. The terrifying pressure instantly shattered his bones, forcing his body in mid-air to the ground.

Boom!!!

Hearing a violent explosion behind her, Rogue, who was in the middle of escaping, felt the ground beneath her feet begin to tremble noticeably.

Damn it. Rogue thought to herself, alarmed by the sudden sound behind her, and her hurried footsteps faltered, causing her to fall to the ground.

Ignoring the burning pain in her palms from scraping against the ground, the girl hurriedly turned around, but the scene behind her would be etched in her memory forever.

She saw the scruffy man who had been chasing her before lying on the ground like a dead dog.

A young man in a white shirt had his right foot planted on the man's back like a pillar supporting the sky; the terrifying force even passed through the scruffy man's body, creating a huge crater a meter in diameter in the ground beneath his foot.

"Looks like the timing is just right."

Bai Ye looked at Rogue, who was staring at him blankly, and ignored Sabretooth, who was concealed by the dust. Smiling, he extended his right hand towards the girl and said, "Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Bai Ye. I heard you were looking for me."

Is this… a god? Rogue wondered.

At that moment, sunlight bathed Bai Ye's handsome face, making him seem like an angel from the divine realm. This perfect scene caused Rogue to be momentarily dazed, and she subconsciously reached out her right hand.

But looking at Bai Ye's slender, fair fingers and comparing them to her own hands, now covered in dust and blood, the girl retracted her outstretched right hand.

"Your hand is injured." Bai Ye noticed the wound on Rogue's arm, stomped on Sabretooth's struggling head, pushing it into the soil, and gently grasped her hand.

"Wait, you can't touch me." Seeing Bai Ye take her right hand, Rogue suddenly thought of her ability and hastily withdrew her hand.

But Rogue's right hand was already firmly held by Bai Ye, a powerful force transmitting from him.

The girl anxiously looked up at the boy in front of her, but saw him looking at her with a calm expression, as if nothing had happened.

Could it be that my ability doesn't work on him? Rogue thought with a pleasant surprise, but feeling the continuous surge of power within her, she asked, "Are you alright?"

"It hurts a bit, but it's within acceptable limits."

Feeling the excruciating pain of a thousand cuts, Bai Ye smiled calmly, while looking at the numbers on his panel.

Name: Bai Ye

Lifespan: 18/30000...29000...28000...27000...

Strength: 2.7+0.4...2.6+0.4...

Constitution: 2.7+0.4...2.6+0.4...

Spirit: 2.7+...2.6...

Charm: 1.4+ Attribute Points to Use: 0.1 ...

It seems there's a risk with prolonged contact, but the attribute points added to the panel don't seem to be able to be absorbed.

Watching the decreasing numbers on his attribute panel, Bai Ye thought silently to himself. He then appropriately released Rogue's right hand and smiled, "Alright, your hand shouldn't hurt anymore, right?"

"My hand?" Rogue looked down, surprised to see that the scrape on her palm had already healed, leaving only a trace of blood mixed with dust to show that the wound had indeed been there.

Glancing at Sabretooth, who was sprawled on the ground like a dead dog, Rogue sincerely thanked him, "Thank… thank you for saving me. My name is Mary, you can call me Rogue. I came to New York this time to see you…"

"No need to explain." Bai Ye smiled, gently patting Rogue on the shoulder. "I know even more than you do. I came specifically looking for you."

"Looking, looking for me?" Rogue stared at her idol in shock. She had thought this was a fated encounter, a passing young man meeting a girl in distress. She never imagined it would be mutual. This was something she hadn't even dared to dream of.

"That's right. Could you wait for me outside the alley for a moment? I have some things to discuss with him," Bai Ye said.

And as he released his right hand, Bai Ye saw the values on his panel that had been decreasing begin to gradually return to normal, and the power he had lost began to recover.
