Chapter 68 - S.H.I.E.L.D.

Cold! Pain!

Lying on the cold floor of the Midtown High School gymnasium, Dr. Connors could only feel intense pain around his abdomen.

As for his abdomen itself? His intestines were spilled out all over the place. Something that wasn't there couldn't feel pain, could it?

With a light leap, Bai Ye covered a distance of over ten meters from the library, landing beside Dr. Lizard.

Looking at the man with the healed internal organs and the restored human form, Bai Ye silently thought, 'Actually… with my current strength, I'm already doing quite well in the Marvel world, right?'

Hundreds of tons of strength, Mach 1 movement speed, skin that could withstand heavy machine guns, extraordinary immortality, and the special ability of phasing...

All of these abilities were embodied in Bai Ye. As long as he didn't get involved in other matters, he could live a very good life in most situations within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Looking at the unconscious man in front of him, Bai Ye took out his phone and, after some thought, dialed a number: "Hello, General Ross? Yes, it's me, Bai Ye."

"Bai Ye?"

Inside the experimental base, General Ross watched the officers training the soldiers and asked, "Why did you suddenly call me? You refused when I invited you to dinner last week."

"I've been too busy, so I didn't have time. Now, I've found a good experimental subject here, and I've subdued it. You can come and take it. Remember to send me a copy of the experimental results later," Bai Ye said with a smile.

"A good experimental subject?" Ross, with a cigarette in his mouth, asked with interest, "How good?"

"This subject is a core developer of the Osborn Company's biological experiment project. Because of the pressure from the Osborn Company, he conducted human experiments on himself and then turned into a Lizardman with normal intelligence but an extreme personality. If the side effects are removed, it feels much stronger than the super soldier serum you're working on now," Bai Ye said with a smile.

"Osborn's experimental project? Alright, alright. Where are you now? I'll send someone over immediately," Ross said eagerly. They were currently facing a bottleneck in their research on vampires.

"The location? It's here at Midtown High School. The experimental subject suddenly attacked the school just now, causing some casualties, but I've successfully stopped it."

"If you don't act quickly, the police might arrive first." Bai Ye said, already hearing the sound of Ross instructing the officer to mobilize troops on the phone.

Hanging up the phone, Bai Ye exhaled. Behind him, many enthusiastic students had already gathered around.

"Bai, do you… remember me?" A student approached, a touch reserved, and greeted Bai Ye.

Bai Ye recognized the person at a glance. It was Aivin, a classmate from before. Back then, when Bai Ye was using sulfuric acid to temper his body, Aivin had even slapped him, revealing his health bar.

But compared to Aivin's previous casual manner, he was now extremely constrained, appearing somewhat humble.

"Aivin, it hasn't even been a month, how could I have forgotten a classmate?" Bai Ye looked at the restrained Aivin and lightly put his arm around him without a second thought.

Seeing the look of surprise on Aivin's face from such a small gesture, Bai Ye knew there was already an invisible barrier between them. There was nothing he could do; their social standings were different now.

And at the scene, it wasn't just Aivin. More and more classmates gathered around, all looking at him with fervor.

"Bai Ye, can you give me an autograph and take a photo? My younger brother doesn't believe you're my classmate, and I want to prove it to him."

"Bai, I'm your fan. I've read every one of your reports. I've watched the video of you fighting the mutants over a hundred times. I've already pre-ordered three copies of your book next month, one for collecting, one for myself, and one to give away."

"Bai, my house's drainpipe is blocked, so, can you come to my house and fix it for me (flirty eyes)?"

Watching more and more people gather around, Bai Ye kept the elegant smile he always wore for the cameras on his face. He casually took a notebook and pen handed to him by a student and signed his name on it.

But his signing speed still couldn't keep up with the number of students crowding around. Some students were simply morally bankrupt, occasionally reaching out to touch Bai Ye. He could tolerate the girls, but he really couldn't stand the guys touching him.

While dealing with these enthusiastic people, Bai Ye gave Gwen, who was watching him from the back of the crowd, a look, telling her to wait for him. She understood and watched him quietly from a distance.

Not long after, the sound of the police siren rang out. George, getting out of the car, looked at Bai Ye, who was surrounded by students, with a speechless expression: "What, it's you again."

"Yo, Chief's here," Bai Ye greeted as he walked out of the crowd. "I've already resolved the situation; your police cars can park by the teaching building."

George glanced at the crowd and found his daughter, who was looking at him from the crowd. He sighed helplessly and said, "Tell me, what happened this time?"

"Just a mutated Lizardman attacking the school, that's all. See, it's lying over there." Bai Ye said, and then quickly noticed a group of men in black approaching the unconscious professor. "Those guys... they shouldn't be your people, right?"

"Hmm?" George turned around alertly and immediately walked over. "Who are you, what's your identity, and what do you want?"

Seeing the police approaching, the man leading the group, who had a refined demeanor, pulled out his identification: "Oh, I'm FBI Agent Coulson. I'm here to investigate this case."

"FBI..." George looked skeptically at the man with the gentle smile, but after examining the credentials, he didn't find anything amiss: "You can't just take the suspect away. I need to consult with my superiors."

But Bai Ye's eyes had already narrowed slightly. The name Coulson reminded him of a certain organization that always showed up wherever there was trouble: S.H.I.E.L.D.

"You must be Bai Ye." Agent Coulson stepped forward, a polite but distant smile on his face, and extended his hand towards Bai Ye: "We'd like to take a statement from you. Do you have the time?"

"I don't think a statement is necessary. I'll provide a separate report to your director later." At that moment, a slightly raised voice cut in from the side. General Ross looked at Coulson with an expression of disdain, thinking that S.H.I.E.L.D. really did show up wherever there was trouble.

"As for this suspect, the military is taking him." Ross looked at Coulson. Behind him, because of Bai Ye's reminder, he had brought a large number of troops, completely matching S.H.I.E.L.D.'s imposing presence.
