Chapter 126 - The Chat Group Gathering

At the White House, President Ellis rested his right hand on a stack of documents and looked toward Vice President Rodriguez.

"Things have gotten heated with this whole inner energy situation. The research results are already conclusive. What do you think we should do about Bai Ye?"

"You mean the matter of genetic alteration?" Rodriguez smiled. "I think it's great. Compared to extending the average human lifespan, there's nothing bad about it."

"Every year our national budget spends a massive amount on healthcare for citizens. Now that people have inner energy, they don't even get sick anymore. That's a huge expense saved. Though," he added, "the retirement age should probably be extended a few more decades."

As Rodriguez spoke, the forty- or fifty-year-old's previously aging face now looked rosy and full of vitality. After just ten days of inner energy conditioning, he seemed to have entered a second spring.

"But Bai Ye has gone too far. Many people below have complaints about him. If we keep ignoring it, it might affect the next election," Ellis said with a troubled expression.

Hearing that, Rodriguez's face changed slightly. "You didn't… do anything yet, did you? Don't forget Bai Ye's temperament. If things go south, don't drag me into it."

"Relax, I won't do anything," Ellis replied with a shake of his head. But Rodriguez could hear the real meaning behind the words.

Doing nothing meant not supporting nor opposing—letting subordinates act on their own while the president's hands stayed clean.

There was still time before the next election. Let the people below stir up chaos; let Bai Ye fight it out with them. When the dust settled, Ellis would pick the winning side.

"Who do you think will win in the end?" Ellis asked calmly, the picture of confidence—like a fisherman waiting by the riverside.

"Bai Ye, most likely. The people waiting for life extension won't let him fail. They just don't want to show open support right now."

Rodriguez thought for a moment. "At least until Bai Ye's full value has been exploited, those people won't let him die."

"I agree," Ellis said with a faint smile. "So for now, let's direct public anger toward Bai Ye. We'll stay out of it. No matter how arrogant he is, he won't attack the government, right? We don't have any personal feud with him. We're just spectators—spectators don't get shot."

"As for those ordinary people Bai Ye injured or killed, that's just necessary sacrifice—unavoidable choices, the growing pains of progress. Not our responsibility," Ellis said, spreading his hands. "It's not like we told them to go up against him."

"Won't attack the government…?" Rodriguez felt a pang of unease, as though he'd missed something important.

That discomfort grew stronger as his eyes fell upon one of the documents—a page titled 'On Holding a Hearing Regarding Victims of Bai Ye's Followers and the Inner Energy Phenomenon.'

"What's this?" he asked, frowning down at the file.

"Oh, just a hearing about Bai Ye," Ellis said lightly. "But you know how it is—Kingpin's people reported that Bai Ye disappeared for a while, so the subpoena probably won't even reach him."

He chuckled. "It's just some people venting their frustration. No one's taking it seriously."

Rodriguez nodded slightly, but the unease in his chest only deepened. He decided he'd better take some precautions.

At Doom Industries, Susan and Johnny were busy with their work, while Bai Ye idly sat aside browsing aerospace data to pass the time.

Just then, a call came through—from Kingpin.

"Mr. Bai," Kingpin said respectfully, "the Vice President asked me to send you his regards."

"The Vice President? Rodriguez?" Bai Ye's tone turned amused. "That old fox—if he hasn't done anything shady, why the sudden courtesy?"

"Mr. Vice President said that the public mood has turned a bit against you recently. He hopes you can bear with it for now. He wants you to know that the higher-ups are all on your side," Kingpin replied.

"So, in other words, I support you—just not publicly, huh?" Bai Ye sneered into the phone, a cold smirk curling his lips.

While chatting on the call, he also split his focus to glance at the chat group interface.

[Deep Blue]: @Everyone — I'm planning to host a party. Anyone interested?

A party?

Everyone in the group froze for a second. Were they actually going to meet in person?

Still, no one was opposed. Bai Ye had just shared cultivation techniques in the group—attending a party was the least they could do to show respect.

[Gentleman Sword]: Senior Deep Blue, you've done us great favors. I'll definitely attend.

[Master Luo]: Of course, no problem! Just tell me when!

[Kanai Junjima]: Sure, Senior!

Soon, the group chat was flooded with messages from members confirming their attendance.

Seeing this, Bai Ye thought for a moment, then said to Kingpin on the phone, "Tomorrow night, I'll be hosting a small party for a few friends. You handle the arrangements."

"A party? No problem, sir. Consider it done," Kingpin said confidently, already planning to spare no effort.

At Mount Hua, Yue Buqun pondered the invitation, racking his brain over what kind of gift to bring. After all, Senior Deep Blue had helped him tremendously—it would be ungrateful not to show some gesture of appreciation.

But soon, a new message appeared in the group:

[Deep Blue]: It's just a casual get-together, no need to make it grand. And don't bother with gifts—I'm rich enough already. I don't need anything from you. I'll send the invites in the group later—just click 'accept.'

So extravagant… Junjima Kanai couldn't help but mutter, now even more curious about this wealthy Senior Deep Blue. How would he compare to Stark from her own world?

Meanwhile, in the world of Mr. Vampire, Lin Jiu gazed at his rundown funeral parlor and sighed in silence, full of envy. Wealth is just worldly dust. I'll have it someday…

In the blink of an eye, the day passed.

At the venue Kingpin had prepared, Bai Ye finally sent out the invitations through the group.

[Deep Blue]: Everyone, get ready and accept my invitation.

System Message: [Deep Blue] has sent a Cross-World Gathering Invite — Participants: 0/5

Almost instantly, those who had been waiting—Yue Buqun and the others—hit "Accept." The space around them shimmered and shifted, transporting them directly from their own worlds.

Meanwhile, in front of New York's Empire State Building, reporters crowded around, broadcasting live coverage of the first public hearing condemning Bai Ye.

Cameras rolled. Lights flashed.

The storm was just beginning.
