"Then what are you planning to do now?" The Ancient One looked at Bai Ye. "Go straight to Asgard and fight Odin to the death?"
"Fight what death battle?" Bai Ye rolled his eyes. "That old geezer—if he can't win, he should just say so directly."
"Am I really such a terrible person? Just surrender properly and admit you can't afford to provoke me, and everything will be fine."
Bai Ye, completely unaware of how petty he sounded, continued pondering Odin's strategy.
All that could be said was that Odin's Wisdom Eye, which could only foresee a few minutes ahead, was nowhere near as convenient as the Time Stone. It let him glimpse a moment, but not the future—otherwise he wouldn't have ended up like this.
"Boring. Anyway, that old geezer doesn't have many years left. Let him stay in Asgard and die of old age by himself." Bai Ye waved his hand lazily.
For someone who surrendered at the very start, Bai Ye couldn't muster the slightest fighting spirit. This battle was void from his perspective.
After all, he had already kicked the entire Asgardian population out before even lifting a finger.
Returning from Asgard, Bai Ye spent another clingy day with Gwen at the hotel. Since she had school the next day, he personally escorted her back home.
Not wanting to interfere with Gwen's everyday life and socializing, Bai Ye hid in a secluded corner, quietly watching her walk into the school.
He looked over Midtown High School. At the school gate—where there used to be nothing—now stood a solid steel statue.
It was a statue of Bai Ye: long hair billowing, eyes looking forward, a handsome face with a roguish smile, radiating unwavering confidence.
Above the school gate hung a massive banner:
"Midtown High School Will Forever Be Proud of His Majesty the Emperor."
Looking at the school, Bai Ye suddenly felt a strange sense of deja vu. Barely three months had passed since awakening his past-life memories, yet his school days felt like they were just yesterday.
"I wonder how the students inside are feeling right now," Bai Ye mused as he turned around—only to see a blond teenager watching him from not far away.
"Long time no see, Peter." Bai Ye waved.
Ever since the Lizard incident, the two hadn't met again.
Peter Parker looked at Bai Ye, wanting to say something but unable to open his mouth. The Bai Ye before him now felt like a complete stranger.
"Walk with me?" Bai Ye said. "Haven't seen you around lately."
Peter paused, then agreed. He followed Bai Ye along the road, slowly telling his story.
After the Lizard incident, because his identity was exposed, General Ross had him taken back to the base to assist in researching the lizard serum.
Because Ross knew he had a connection with Bai Ye, Peter enjoyed significantly better treatment.
But not long after, Bai Ye overthrew the old world. Since Peter was once his classmate, Ross felt it inappropriate to keep him working.
With the lizard serum already completed, Peter was paid a large compensation and sent back to school.
"So basically, you don't have to worry about money anymore? Sounds like things are going well." Bai Ye smiled.
"More than well! The whole class knew you and I were on good terms. After you became Emperor, the school called that very night and said I had been granted three major international scholarships."
As he spoke, Peter couldn't help but laugh. Truly, when one person rises, everyone around him rises too. With Bai Ye as a connection, even if he were a complete failure, he'd never have to worry about making a living again.
"And a few days ago… Uncle Ben was out shopping and got caught in a robbery. He was shot."
Hearing that Uncle Ben had been hurt, Bai Ye froze. He remembered setting the goal of preventing Uncle Ben's death—but so many things had happened that he'd completely forgotten.
"How is he now?" Bai Ye asked.
"He made it through." Peter's voice still held fear. "At the time, I was completely shattered. Uncle Ben was basically pronounced dead… but fortunately, I mentioned you."
"You mentioned me?" Bai Ye raised a brow. What did this have to do with him?
"I told them I was your friend. The officers reported it level by level, and soon the entire New York government was alerted. While I used the inner force I've trained to keep Uncle Ben alive a little longer, a top medical team rushed over from downtown."
"Then they used the city's vast reserves of true qi and forcefully dragged Uncle Ben back from the edge of death. Afterwards, Vice President Wilson and President Rodriguez came to visit and told Uncle Ben to stay in the VIP ward and not worry about any expenses."
As Peter spoke, he couldn't help but tug at the corner of his mouth. If not for knowing Bai Ye, he would've lost another loved one.
Even Bai Ye hadn't expected the situation to unfold this dramatically. Driven by political motives, Uncle Ben had practically been revived by force. And somehow, even Kingpin never mentioned any of this to him.
"Uncle Ben and Aunt May want to thank you properly. If you have time, you're always welcome at my home. They want to say thank you in person," Peter said sincerely.
"I understand. I'll visit when I can." Bai Ye nodded. After chatting a bit more, he turned and left.
When Bai Ye returned to the villa, he found the long-absent Susan sitting inside.
"What brings you back?" Bai Ye asked, lifting his hands to gently pull the woman—whom he had once spent a single, passionate night with—into his arms.
Hugging him, Susan instinctively rubbed his well-defined abs. "You still have to ask? Tomorrow is the spacecraft launch. You've been talking about it for so long—aren't you going?"
"The spacecraft? So it's finally launching."
Bai Ye smiled. "Then let's take a trip to the sky. I've never been to outer space in this life."
"You were supposed to study aerospace knowledge. Did you even look at it?" Susan asked, remembering how Doom had used that excuse to send her to him.
"No need. It's just outer space. It's not like I can die." Bai Ye said as his mischievous hands began to wander, making the girl blush bright red.
The next day, on the launch platform, Bai Ye glanced at the tight suits the others were wearing. "Do I have to wear that too?" he asked Susan.
"It's up to you. These are made of nanomaterials to ensure our safety, but honestly, I don't think someone who survived a nuclear explosion is going to get hurt because he's missing a layer of fabric." Susan said.
"Then I won't wear it." Bai Ye nodded lightly, glancing at the limp, dark-blue bodysuit. It looked hideous. His own clothes were far more comfortable.
