Chapter 10 - Redefining Success

For a long time, I thought success meant living without sin.

I thought success was avoiding hell, avoiding mistakes, avoiding "worldly ways." I thought if I could just stay righteous enough, one day heaven would open its gates for me, and that would be the reward.

But the older I grew, the more I saw how shallow that definition was. What good was righteousness if it left me powerless on earth? What good was purity if it could not feed me, clothe me, or give me a voice in the world?

That realization shattered everything I had been taught, and from its pieces, I began to build a new definition of success.

Success Is Not Just Survival

Many people mistake survival for success. They say, "At least I am alive, thank God."

But life is not meant to be endured; it is meant to be lived. Survival is the bare minimum. Success is rising above mere existence.

I began to see that true success meant thriving, not just breathing. It meant building a life where peace, dignity, and opportunities were not luxuries but natural outcomes of courage.

Survival keeps you begging. Success allows you to give.

Courage as Currency

I realized something powerful: courage is a currency.

Money is important there is no denying that. But courage is the seed from which wealth, progress, and opportunities grow. Without courage, money slips away. Without courage, even talent dies in silence.

Every breakthrough I witnessed, every door I saw open for others, was the result of someone daring to take a risk. The ones who stayed behind in fear kept waiting for "God's time," while the brave carved time into their own hands.

It was then I understood: success rewards bravery long before it rewards prayer.

The Shift from Religion to Wisdom

I began to read differently. Not just the Bible, but other books philosophy, history, biographies, even psychology.

And I saw something strange: the people we call "successful" today, whether they believe in God or not, have one thing in common. They do not wait for miracles; they create them.

Meanwhile, the poor are taught to "pray harder." The rich are taught to "plan smarter."

This discovery shook me deeply. How could entire congregations pray endlessly for breakthrough, while those outside the church halls used strategy and courage to build empires?

The truth hit me: wisdom without fear is the true pathway to success.

Redefining Wealth

Money itself began to take on new meaning for me.

Growing up, I was taught to see wealth as dangerous, as a temptation, as something that could lead you to hell. But as I struggled with hunger and lack, I realized: the absence of money was already hell on earth.

The Bible itself said, "Money is a defense." Yet somehow, they taught us to despise it while secretly pursuing it.

I came to see wealth not as greed, but as freedom. Freedom to choose. Freedom to help. Freedom to live without fear of the next meal.

I realized: wealth is not evil. The misuse of wealth is. And the more righteous people reject money, the more it falls into the hands of the corrupt.

---

The Bravery to Fail

One of the hardest parts of redefining success was accepting failure.

Religion had taught me to fear mistakes, to avoid failure at all costs, because failure meant weakness, weakness meant sin, and sin meant punishment.

But bravery demanded a new perspective: failure is not the end it is the tuition fee for success.

I had to fail in small businesses. I had to fail in friendships. I had to fail in attempts at independence. Each failure stripped me of illusions but armed me with lessons.

The more I failed, the braver I became.

No Longer Waiting for Heaven

As my definition of success evolved, one truth stood taller than the rest: I could not keep waiting for heaven to save me.

I had to build heaven here, in my lifetime, with my own courage. Heaven was not somewhere beyond the sky; it was peace of mind, joy in the heart, and freedom in the body. And those things required bold choices, not just holy prayers.

Success was no longer about reaching the afterlife unstained it was about reaching the end of my days having truly lived.

---

The New Equation of Success

For me, success became a new equation:

Righteousness without courage = captivity.

Courage without wisdom = recklessness.

Courage + Wisdom + Consistency = True Success.

This became the guiding principle of my new life. I no longer bowed to fear, nor did I despise wealth. I no longer chased holiness at the expense of progress. I sought balance: to live well, to do good, and to walk bravely.

Conclusion: A New Vision

Redefining success changed everything about how I lived.

It gave me permission to dream bigger. It gave me strength to rise after every fall. It gave me clarity to see that life is not waiting to reward the holiest it is waiting to reward the boldest.

And so I pressed forward, not as a saint trying to avoid sin, but as a human determined to live fully, bravely, and truthfully.

Because if life has taught me anything, it is this: God may love the righteous, but life rewards the brave.
