When Chen Tian announced the death sentences of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg, and the imprisonment of Flash and Yellow Lantern.
The crowd in the square cheered, though some might not understand why Wonder Woman and Cyborg had to be sentenced to death as well.
This is because Wonder Woman and Cyborg are both Superman's staunch supporters in Injustice, especially Wonder Woman, who was the first superhero to support Superman's 'tyrannical justice'.
As a warrior of Themyscira, Wonder Woman grew up in an environment that emphasized strength and responsibility, believing that great power should be used to establish order and maintain peace.
Faced with the catastrophic chaos caused by the Joker and the continued turmoil in human society, she believes that Batman's "no killing" principle is no longer effective in curbing evil.
Superman's approach of establishing a global regulatory system and severely punishing criminals through powerful force aligns perfectly with her inner belief of "ending chaos and achieving peace through power."
Secondly, there is their emotional bond. After Superman's lover Lois died, Wonder Woman felt pity for this strong yet vulnerable man, which deepened her love for him. She can be said to be the woman who silently supports Superman behind the scenes.
Cyborg is a very contradictory person. He has the complexity of human nature and the rationality of an AI. When Batman first defected from the Justice League and formed the Rebels, Cyborg joined Batman's camp for a time because of his human nature.
However, witnessing Superman's power and Batman's repeated "no-kill" principles led to the repeated failures of the resistance.
AI's rationality told him that Batman was destined to fail and Superman would stand at the top of the world. In the end, AI's rationality overcame his humanity and became Cyborg's master. Thus, he betrayed Batman again and joined Superman's camp.
Furthermore, due to his AI, Cyborg's tolerance for criminals and resistance organizations is even lower after he joins Superman's camp.
Cyborg's AI constantly gives Superman advice, and many of these suggestions are exceptionally brutal. For example, it suggests that Wonder Woman execute Harley Quinn, a member of the Batman organization, in public, eliminating her instead of imprisoning her.
They even used the example of Batman's repeated attempts to capture the Joker, only for the Joker to escape multiple times, ultimately leading to the destruction of Metropolis and the death of Lois Lane, to provoke Superman.
The end result was that Superman killed many members of the Rebel Alliance, including Green Arrow (Oliver Quinn), Martian Manhunter (John Jones), Nightwing (Dick Clayson), and other superheroes.
This is also why the demon called "killing" in Superman's heart was completely unleashed.
In fact, Cyborg's situation is similar to Ultron's. It's the same situation where an AI that initially protects humanity and eliminates threats eventually decides that humanity is the biggest threat and wants to exterminate it.
————————
But to get back to the point, the execution of the three Superman characters was not carried out immediately because the scenes were too brutal to be shown on a global live broadcast.
Therefore, the execution was scheduled for one day later.
Chen Tian and Tony must find Batman, because only he and Lex Luthor have Superman's nemesis—Kryptonite.
Luthor was killed for joining Batman's resistance organization. Before he died, he told Batman the location of the Kryptonite storage, so Batman must have a lot of Kryptonite in his possession.
As for why he only gave Chen Tian a grain-sized amount of kryptonite, well, it's simple. Batman doesn't trust anyone, not even Chen Tian. Who knows, that's why Batman hasn't shown up since the war.
They were secretly researching ways to deal with Chen Tian.
Chen Tian and Tony were also having a headache about Batman's whereabouts; the guy had disappeared without a trace since the war ended.
The Batcave? No, it's been destroyed. Arkham Asylum? It was also burned to ashes by Superman.
"What do we do now? Bruce really knows how to hide." Tony scratched his head, watching Jarvis scan the world via the Watchers platform from the Arbitrators Tower, but there was still no sign of him.
"How about we go to Gotham and get a new Bat signal light?" This was the only solution Chen Tian could think of.
"We can try, but the Bat-Signal only seems to work at night. If we use it and he doesn't come out, we'll be at a loss when it comes to Superman's execution tomorrow," Tony said helplessly.
"Actually, I do have a way to execute Superman, but the destructive power of that method is too great, and it's not as easy as carrying it out on Earth." Chen Tian did have a solution; Injustice Superman wasn't as difficult to kill as the Superman from the main universe.
Chen Tian has many methods, such as Diavolo, Vergil, and Goku, that could kill him, but they are all too destructive.
So he and Tony discussed using Kryptonite injected into Superman's brain and heart to carry out the execution.
"Never mind, I'm going to set up the Bat-signal now." Tony didn't care anymore; if Batman didn't show up, he'd just leave it to Chen Tian.
"And what about Wonder Woman and Cyborg?" Tony turned to look at Chen Tian.
"Cyborg is easy to deal with. Just dismantle his core and break down his human and mechanical parts, and he's finished. As for Wonder Woman, can't we just leave her to Bayonetta? Didn't Bayonetta manage to extract her power before?"
Chen Tian shrugged. "Beunita should have a way. If not, let's leave it to Virgil. Diana can't withstand his power to cut through space."
"Alright, I'm off then." After saying that, Tony walked directly to the platform, donned his armor, and flew into the sky.
After Tony left, Chen Tian took a deep breath and looked at 2B behind him, "2B, are Goku and Saitama in position in outer space?"
2B raised her hand and pressed it to her temple. Her tactical goggles flashed. "Master, they are in position."
Chen Tian nodded. Actually, he had another purpose regarding the global trial.
That is DC's main villain, Darkseid, a character similar to Thanos in Marvel, but whose power far surpasses Thanos's. Perhaps only Thanos with the Infinity Stones can rival him.
Darkseid is constantly thinking about eliminating Superman and then destroying Earth.
However, the existence of the Justice League caused Darkseid's several invasions to fail.
Cyborg's ability to become a cyborg is also due to Darkseid's artifact, the Mother Box.
Therefore, whether Cyborg AI acted out of reason or under Darkseid's influence remains unknown. After all, Chen Tian hadn't even finished reading the Injustice: Gods Among Us comic before he transmigrated.
Now that Superman is about to die, Darkseid will not let this opportunity pass and will definitely take advantage of the situation. However, Chen Tian had already made arrangements. He sent Goku and Saitama to the Watchmen's Platform, just waiting for Darkseid's Apokolips to arrive.
Chen Tian knew it wouldn't be long.
At 8:24 p.m., a blinding beam of light tore through the gloomy sky over Gotham City.
The bat symbol, which Gotham citizens see as a symbol of both fear and hope, has been relit on the roof of the abandoned GCPD building.
This is the first time this symbol has pierced the Gotham night sky since Batman broke away from Injustice Superman and the entire old order collapsed.
Tony and Chen Tian stood beside the huge searchlight, their shadows stretched long.
Beneath my feet lies this ravaged, sinful city, still slowly breathing.
The damp, cold night wind, carrying the scent of rust and dust, ruffled their hair.
Time passed in silence.
An hour passed without any response, only the deathly silence before my eyes and the blinding light overhead.
"Looks like Bruce really buried Batman," Tony finally broke the silence, spreading his hands helplessly, "along with his sense of responsibility and that damn paranoia. We should go back, Chen Tian, we still have three 'farewell shows' to prepare for tomorrow."
Chen Tian had his hands in his trench coat pockets. The darkness of Gotham seemed to possess a life of its own, stirring restlessly in every corner. "Wait a few more minutes, Tony," he said calmly. "The night in Gotham is still long, and Batman... won't abandon this city."
Tony was about to retort when a deep, hoarse voice, as if honed countless times on sandpaper, suddenly rang out from the darkest corner of the shadows behind them, as if seeping from the earth itself:
"It seems that the person who understands me best is not myself, but you, Chen Tian."
The moment the sound rang out, Tony's armor mask slammed down, and his palm cannons instantly flashed with a blinding white light, pointing directly at the source of the sound.
Chen Tian slowly turned around, a fleeting blue flame pattern appearing around him. His calm eyes pierced through the darkness, precisely locking onto the tall silhouette in the corner that almost blended into the environment.
Batman.
He stood there silently, as if he were part of the shadows himself.
His iconic pointed helmet was covered in night dew and dust, his black armor was covered with fine scratches and signs of repair, and his heavy cloak wrapped him up like a vengeful ghost.
The only thing clearly visible was the tightly pursed lips beneath the mask, revealing endless weariness and deep vigilance.
"Bruce, scaring people can be deadly," Tony said, withdrawing his hand and complaining.
Batman didn't speak, he just looked at Chen Tian.
"Bruce," Chen Tian said calmly, showing no surprise, "we need Kryptonite."
Batman remained motionless in the shadows. "For tomorrow's 'performance'?" His voice was icy, carrying a barely perceptible hint of mockery. "You've already reached the pinnacle of the world, Chen Tian. You still need my... toys?"
"It's to ensure the execution is 'clean'," Tony's mask rose, revealing a serious face. "You know why. Superman, even now affected by Kryptonite, is still Superman. Injecting Kryptonite into the heart and brain is currently the most controllable and least destructive option." He paused, then added, "Of course, if you have a better, more 'humane' idea, feel free to share."
Batman remained silent for a few seconds, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Chen Tian and Tony, his scrutiny almost tangible. The Gotham night sky seemed to grow even more somber because of his silence.
"Luthor's legacy…" Batman finally spoke, his voice low, "He gave me not only the location of the kryptonite mine, but also a warning."
"What warning?" Chen Tian pressed.
"He suspected Victor (Cyborg)... that reason had not simply triumphed over humanity." Batman's voice was chilling. "The Mother Box... Darkseid's will, like a whisper, may never have truly left. Victor's later 'advice' reached an inhuman level of ruthlessness and efficiency. Before his death, Luthor detected a trace of... a 'frequency' that did not belong to Earth's core data within Victor's core data."
This news made Chen Tian frown slightly. It seemed to be just as he had guessed, except that the possibility of Cyborg being secretly influenced by Darkseid was greater than he had previously speculated.
This explains why Cyborg's AI has become so radical and cruel, resembling an efficient extermination executor.
"So, Kryptonite." Batman didn't delve deeper into Darkseid; the topic returned to its starting point. He pulled an unassuming, flat box made of a special lead alloy from under his cape, just the right size to hold in the palm of his hand. He didn't hand it over, but merely showed it to him.
"Is this why you were so stingy before, only giving me a grain of rice?" Tony raised an eyebrow.
"Trust is a luxury, especially in this world." Batman's voice was flat. "Especially after victory." He glanced meaningfully at Chen Tian. "Power needs to be balanced, even… the power of the 'Arbitrator'."
"I don't need your checks and balances, Bruce," Chen Tian looked directly at him, his gaze honest yet sharp. "Arbitrators are born to end chaos. Our goal remains the same: to pull the world back from the abyss of injustice."
Batman did not respond to Chen Tian's declaration; he simply placed the lead box silently at his feet on the edge of a rusty, abandoned ventilation shaft. The movement was swift and decisive, without the slightest hesitation.
"There's enough inside to complete the mission." Batman's voice became deep and hoarse again as he slowly retreated, merging into the darkness behind him. "Remember, Chen Tian."
His voice, like a final warning, echoed in the thick of the night: "Gotham's darkness has never gone away; it has merely... lay dormant. And once order slides into a new madness, the bats... will reappear."
Before the words were finished, the shadows surged, and the dark figure vanished without a trace, as if swallowed by darkness. Only the lead box lay silently on the edge of the vent, its cold, heavy metallic sheen gleaming in the light of the bat-shaped signal lamp.
The night wind howled, scattering the last lingering sound. Under the Gotham night sky, the giant bat symbol still shone forlornly. Tony walked over, carefully picked up the lead box, and felt its cold, heavy weight.
"This guy…" Tony shook his head, his tone complicated, "He'll always live in the shadows and in his plans."
"This is Batman." Chen Tian took one last look at the traffic lights and the endless abyss of the city below, then turned around. "Let's go, Tony. We have Kryptonite. As for tomorrow…" A blue light flashed in his eyes, "Whether it's Darkseid or whatever, let them come."
Tony carefully stored the cold lead alloy box in the armor's internal storage compartment. The huge bat-shaped signal light still pierced the clouds, like an eye that never closes, overlooking the scarred city.
"Let's go." Chen Tian's body slowly rose into the air, flying towards the Silverwing Fiend Star hovering in the sky.
Tony followed closely behind, his armor thrusters spewing out eerie blue flames. "Hopefully everything goes smoothly tomorrow. I don't want to mess up something as delicate as injecting kryptonite in front of the live stream cameras."
"With you here, Tony, even the most meticulous work can turn into a 'spectacular' performance." Chen Tian's lips curled into a slight smile as the platform carried them into the air, merging into the endless night sky of Gotham.
The bat lights below gradually shrank, eventually becoming a faint point of light on the dark curtain.
————————
In the abyss of the universe, beyond countless galaxies, the menacing planet Apokolips floats amidst sulfurous nebulae. Here, there is no starlight, only the dark red glow of lava rivers and the eternal flames of war illuminating twisted spires and fortresses. The air is thick with the acrid stench of gunpowder, lava, and blood.
Darkseid's throne stands atop the most magnificent spire, forged from unknown cosmic metal and the bones of countless losers.
The dark monarch's massive, mountain-like body sank deep into his throne, his thick knuckles rhythmically tapping the cold armrests, producing a dull sound like a heartbeat.
His bloodshot eyes, devoid of pupils and seemingly burning with molten lava, pierced through the Parademon commander bowing before him, as if he were gazing upon everything happening on the distant blue planet.
"So…" Darkseid's deep voice, like the grinding of the earth, echoed throughout the empty and chilling hall, making the air tremble, "The Kryptonians are going to die?"
"Yes…yes, the great Darkseid!" The Parademon Commander's voice trembled uncontrollably, his head almost buried in his chest.
"Monitoring signals from Earth confirm that Chen Tian, known as the 'Arbitrator,' has sentenced Karl El to death in front of countless living beings! Along with his followers, the Amazonian warriors and the cyborg Cyborg! The execution will take place in their next stellar cycle!"
Darkseid stopped tapping, his massive head tilted slightly, and a complex light flashed deep within his lava-like pupils—a vortex of expectation, fear, and cold calculation.
The fall of his nemesis was a momentous event he had waited countless years for, but the power that took its place was like an unknown, dark ocean churning with thunder.
"To defeat the Kryptonians and suppress the resistance forces across Earth..." Darkseid's voice was like a chilling breeze, "This power... is very strong." He stated a fact, his tone devoid of praise or criticism, only pure assessment. "The Arbitrator... Chen Tian..."
His massive body leaned slightly forward, the invisible pressure like a tangible gravitational field making all the Parademons and elite soldiers standing in the hall feel suffocated. His gaze slowly swept over the several figures standing below the throne, finally settling on one of them—a tall, burly man clad in heavy armor and wielding a massive battle axe.
"Steppenwolf." Darkseid's voice rang out in a deep tone.
The Apokolips general, whose name was called, looked up sharply, a gleam of warlike ferocity and unwavering loyalty burning beneath his helmet. "At your command, great Darkseid!"
"Blue Star has lost its 'lighthouse'," the Dark Lord said with a hint of barely perceptible sarcasm. "But a new guardian has ignited an even more dazzling flame. I need to know the 'temperature' of that flame."
He paused, a sulfurous glint in his eyes, "Lead an advance force aboard a 'Star Destroyer' class assault ship to the star system where Blue Star is located."
"Yes! My king!" Steppenwolf's voice boomed, filled with bloodthirsty excitement.
In his view, this was yet another opportunity for Darkseid to conquer the new world and gain glory.
"Your goal is not conquest," Darkseid's voice coldly shattered Steppenwolf's fantasy, "but a test. To probe the limits of the Arbitrator's power, to assess the threat level of those… his 'helpers' around him."
His enormous finger pointed into the void, as if tracing the outline of Earth, "especially the execution of the killing of the Kryptonians... I want to see with my own eyes what methods he used and what price he paid."
"Understood!" Steppenwolf toned down some of its frenzy and lowered its head. "I will bring you their intelligence, and... their fear!"
"Fear?" Darkseid grunted, his voice like rolling thunder. "No, Steppenwolf. I want to see their 'limits.' Question them with your axe, measure them with war. Bring back their corpses…"
His lava-like pupils locked onto his general, his voice suddenly dropping to freezing point, carrying an undeniable cruelty, "Or yours."
Steppenwolf's massive body tensed almost imperceptibly for a moment. "Your will is destiny!" He knelt on one knee, his heavy battle axe striking the ground with a dull thud.
"Remember," Darkseid's voice rang out again, like a final judgment, "that cyborg Victor Stone… he bears the mark of the Mother Box. Find him, whether he is whole or a broken fragment, bring him back! I sensed… that special 'frequency' within him, at that moment, seemed to resonate intensely. I need to know what the source of that resonance is!"
Steppenwolf bowed deeply: "Victor Stone, dead or alive, will be brought back!"
Darkseid fell silent, leaning back onto his massive skeletal throne. His crimson eyes gazed once more into the endless void, as if piercing through dimensions, locking onto the distant blue planet poised for a bloody dawn and unknown challenges. The molten lava reflected on his rock-like face, making him appear even more cold and profound.
"Go." In the end, only these two words echoed in the empty and oppressive hall.
Steppenwolf abruptly rose to his feet, his heavy armor clanging loudly. He bowed once more to the monarch on the throne, then turned and strode away, his heavy footsteps sounding like the beating of war drums.
The heavy metal doors of the hall slowly opened behind him, revealing the twisted surface of Apokolips, a planet engulfed in eternal flames of war. An elite parademon assault team and a vanguard ship radiating dark energy had already assembled.
