Chapter 45 - You and Me, Double the Trouble

"Wow, you're really... well, so frank I'm speechless." Tony sighed, tossing the soda can in his hand aside, looking at Dominic with a complicated expression. "Honestly, I thought you'd make up some excuse."

"Excuse?" Dominic looked innocent. "Honestly, they wanted to catch me and use me as a lab rat. Why would I give them that chance? Stay in some dark lab, subjected to their so-called 'moral blackmail'? That's not something I'd do." He then smiled, a relaxed expression on his face. "I'm not planning to be like some superheroes, hiding in Congress every day listening to those self-righteous guys lecture."

Tony's brow twitched slightly, recalling the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, and he couldn't help but feel a hint of resonance with Dominic. "Oh, I know what you mean. Being targeted by a bunch of sanctimonious politicians, that feeling is just awful. All they think about is how to turn you into their tool, squeeze you dry, and when they don't need you anymore, throw you in the trash."

Dominic shrugged, saying calmly, "Yeah, Tony, who doesn't want to live a bit freer? But then again, there are always people in this World who don't like freedom, who insist on dictating how others live. I just don't like them dictating to me." He paused, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes. "So, if they come again, I'll just deal with a few more."

Tony smiled, shaking his head somewhat helplessly. "You really are a troublesome guy, Dominic. But honestly, sometimes I envy your complete lack of concern."

"Envy me?" Dominic raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Tony, you sound like you're about to join the 'Supervillain Club'. But don't worry, even if you don't join, I'll make sure you have fun." He patted Tony's shoulder, his tone relaxing slightly. "How about it, want to consider it? After all, who says only heroes can save the World?"

Tony chuckled softly. "Oh, Dominic, I really don't know if you're trying to lead me astray or find me a new path. But never mind, with a friend like you, my life is certainly less boring."

"Tony!!!"

A rapid 'tap tap tap' of high heels broke the room's quiet, and Pepper pushed the door open, breathless. Her gaze was urgent, as if she had something important to tell Tony, but when she saw Dominic standing in the room, leisurely leaning against the balcony railing, her steps clearly paused, and her expression immediately became a bit awkward. "Oh, Dominic... uh, I didn't expect you to be here too." She managed a polite smile, greeting Dominic. "Hello."

Dominic looked like 'finally, someone to rescue Tony', smiled slightly, and then revealed a hint of playful mischief. "Hey, Pepper! What a coincidence, I'm really a third wheel, aren't I?" He snapped his fingers, deliberately acting nonchalant, exaggerating a wink. "After all, the purpose of a light bulb is to illuminate the secrets hidden in the corners."

Tony's face changed, instantly feeling a bit guilty as he squeezed out a smile at Pepper. "Uh, well, Dominic being here is great! Very great! He's practically a... well, a strange ray of sunshine in my life!" He tried hard to salvage the situation, but it sounded more like a rather clumsy cover-up.

Pepper let out a soft breath, trying to compose herself. She took a deep breath, then displayed her signature professional smile, saying as politely as possible, "Dominic, I'm happy you could visit, but... could you give Tony and me some time? We need to discuss something... rather private." Her tone was very courteous, but her eyes clearly held a hint of helplessness and subtle anxiety.

A mischievous smile appeared at the corner of Dominic's mouth, a cunning glint flashing in his eyes. He straightened up, shrugged, with an 'I understand' expression. "Oh, of course, Pepper. I understand perfectly." Saying that, he slowly turned his head, looking at Tony with a meaningful gaze, his smile gradually turning wicked. "After all, some things can only be properly discussed with the door closed between two people, right?"

Tony's heart tightened, but he also knew Dominic was deliberately being playful. He smiled helplessly. "Yeah, yeah, time alone, nothing better." He replied in a relaxed tone, secretly praying Dominic would quickly get the hint and leave.

Dominic stared at Tony, as if saying 'don't mess this up', then turned to Pepper, his face now wearing a facade of serious solemnity. "Alright, Pepper, I'll follow your instructions. But remember, I'll be waiting outside, ready to be a shining light bulb again at any time." He waved at her, saying seriously, "You two take your time chatting, I'll head out first." He then walked towards the door.

As he passed Tony, he deliberately leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Good luck, Tony. Don't screw it up." Then he swaggered out without looking back.

Pepper watched Dominic's back disappear outside the door, letting out a long breath, her heart finally feeling a little lighter. She turned to Tony, frowning slightly. "Tony, we really need to talk."

Dominic walked out onto Tony's balcony, a gentle breeze blowing past as he stretched leisurely. Just as he was about to leave in a relaxed manner, the phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated. He took it out and saw the name "Blonsky" on the screen. Dominic raised an eyebrow, muttering to himself, "What's this kid up to now?"

He pressed the answer button, and Blonsky's voice immediately came from the other end, mixed with a noisy background. "Dominic, I might be in a bit of trouble..." His voice sounded much calmer than expected, even with a slightly relaxed tone. "Looks like someone's quite interested in me, and they're sending people to 'greet' me now. But don't worry, I can handle it, I just wanted to tell you to be careful."

A smile played on Dominic's lips, clearly amused by Blonsky's calm attitude. "Oh? Being chased and still calling me so leisurely, looks like you're having fun. Who's so blind? Want me to come over and teach them a lesson?"

Blonsky's soft chuckle came from the other end of the phone, his voice lowered slightly, revealing a hint of playfulness. "No need, Dominic, these guys aren't worthy of me calling for backup. I'll just treat it as practice, and help them 'clean up' the mall here while I'm at it... Don't worry, I'll clean up the mess."

Listening to the faint gunshots and footsteps on the other end of the call, Dominic found it even more interesting. He asked casually, "Alright, then be careful yourself, don't mess it up. But if you can't handle it, call me. I'll treat it as a walk to the mall."

Blonsky chuckled softly, his tone full of confidence. "Dominic, thanks, but you should save that walking mood for now. I won't be forced to call for backup by these small fries. Once I've dealt with these uninvited guests, we'll have a drink together."
