Chapter 112 - The Wall Behind Lies

Trevor Slattery hummed a cheerful tune as he walked through the departure hall of Miami International Airport. Whistling, he fantasized about the wonderful life that awaited him: the tropical beaches of Brazil, passionate samba dances, hot bikini beauties, and a backpack full of cash, waiting to open the door to his new life. As soon as he thought of the extravagant life that was about to begin, he couldn't help but smile slightly, and his steps became a little lighter.

"Just wait, Brazil's beauties, I'm coming!" Trevor cheered silently in his heart, completely unaware of the malicious gazes around him.

Just as he was about to pass through the security gate at the boarding entrance, several plainclothes Agents quietly surrounded him, led by Coulson. With his usual calm smile, Coulson quickly took out his FBI badge and signaled to the security personnel around him. "FBI, don't be nervous, just a routine check. Everyone stay calm, please evacuate the crowd immediately."

Security personnel immediately began diverting the surrounding passengers, while Coulson slowly approached Trevor, his eyes carrying a hint of playful amusement. Trevor was startled by the sudden push from behind, and turning around in a hurry, he found that several Agents had surrounded him, clearly targeting him.

"Hey, hey! You've got it wrong! I'm an actor, understand? I'm just going to Brazil to shoot a movie!" Trevor quickly raised his hands, his smile a bit stiff, trying to look innocent. "What are you guys doing? I'm not some criminal!"

Coulson walked closer, glanced at him indifferently, and shook his head slightly. "Oh dear, what a misunderstanding, but..." That familiar smile with a hint of mockery appeared on his face. "Do you really think you're still a small star? This matter isn't as simple as you think."

Trevor forced himself to stay calm, trying to play it off with a cunning expression: "Alright, it's not like I did anything big, I just played a terrorist! Who doesn't like setting off some fireworks in front of the camera? And you guys actually made such a big fuss to catch me?"

Coulson smiled slightly, and with that cold humor he was best at, he said faintly, "Trevor, we do have a high opinion of your acting skills, especially that kind of 'clown with a criminal air'. But well, this role today is a bit different, you'll have to adapt."

Trevor's expression was a bit awkward, and he struggled to continue arguing: "Brother, I'm just an ordinary actor! I just played along for your Terrorists, everyone's just working for the box office, how can you take it seriously?"

Coulson raised an eyebrow, still maintaining a friendly smile, but his tone was full of sarcasm: "How interesting, we're just here to give you some 'box office' too—but not the kind that will give you another chance on camera. I hope your acting is superb in your upcoming 'new life'."

Miami S.H.I.E.L.D. branch.

In the dim detention room, Trevor Slattery was seated on a steel chair, his hands cuffed to the table. His expression was slightly flustered, and his eyes were full of fatigue, clearly having just struggled against being dragged in here. Through the transparent observation window, Coulson stood outside, picked up a communicator, and reported the latest progress to Nick Fury.

"Coulson," Nick's voice came from the other end of the communicator, his tone carrying his usual calmness and prudence, "Is it done?"

Coulson smiled slightly and nodded: "Yes, Director, the 'clown' is under our control. However... this whole scenario is much more complex than we imagined. Killian, the guy everyone thought was just into high-tech, turns out to be the real manipulator."

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the communicator, then Nick's voice was low and held a hint of unease: "Killian? How could a biotechnology expert like him be involved in these matters?"

Coulson sighed softly, his gaze calmly sweeping over Trevor inside the glass window: "Don't underestimate him, Director. He's not just a 'madman' in biotechnology; he also used the Extremis Virus to build a hidden high-tech armed organization—his ambition is much larger than we anticipated. He doesn't just want to threaten Tony, but to completely control the political sphere."

Nick responded coldly from the other end: "Are you saying... this guy is connected to Vice President Rodriguez?"

Coulson nodded: "Yes, Rodriguez. We found that he and Killian made some kind of deal. In order to treat his daughter's disability, Rodriguez was actually willing to sacrifice the current President, help Killian rise to power, and find ways to 'legitimize' Killian's technology within the government."

Nick's voice showed a hint of sarcasm: "What a guy, selling his daughter for glory. Rodriguez's ambition is probably more than just curing his daughter's illness."

Coulson frowned slightly, his tone carrying a bit of dissatisfaction: "Director, it's more than that. Killian's plan doesn't just target the President; he's also preparing to control the military's technological resources in the future. The Extremis Virus and genetic modification are a stepping stone to a 'new World' for him. He wants more than just the arms market; he wants to completely dominate the power structure."

Nick sneered: "Truly an 'omnipotent' tech fanatic. What about Killian? Where is he now?"

Coulson replied in a low voice: "He's already been taken care of by Dominic. He clearly didn't intend to give Killian any way out, not even leaving him a chance to talk."

Nick was silent for a moment, seemingly thinking about something, then slowly spoke: "Dominic... alright, he's a straightforward guy, takes action cleaner than I do. Do we have any video records of him?"

Coulson shook his head slightly, with a wry smile: "Apparently, he doesn't intend to let us leave any evidence. However, judging from Killian's last communication traces, he did die at Dominic's hands. You could say it's an eye for an eye."

Nick snorted coldly: "That 'Guardian' never plays by the rules. However, perhaps this time he did something we wanted to do but didn't dare to."

Coulson nodded and added softly: "Yes, Director. After all, Dominic knows our limits. He's aware of things we sometimes can't truly do, which is why he chose to 'clean up' these 'malignant tumors' in his own way."

Nick was silent for a moment, finally saying in a low voice: "Let's pretend we 'didn't see' this time... but what about next time, Coulson? If Dominic acts again, how should we respond? After all, he's not a 'pawn' we can fully control."

Coulson smiled faintly, his tone carrying a hint of ease: "Director, we're not his 'pawns' either. He will continue his so-called 'path of justice', but we... are still S.H.I.E.L.D., and we will still have our own bottom line."
