Ahead of her, the last Seedling charged at her its bark-grafted limbs slapping against the concrete as green-tinged water sloshed violently inside the glass tank that served as its head. Vines pressed against the glass, twitching as if alive.
Pamela raised her arm and said, "Nah… I want the whip this time."
The talon covering her arm dissolved in a ripple of wood and thorns, reforming into a long vine-whip crowned with sharp barbs. She snapped it back once, then lashed it forward with a crack.
The whip coiled perfectly around the Seedling's neck, lodging itself just below the tank seal where it connected to the shoulders. Barbed thorns dug deep into the Seedling's skin, locking themselves in place. Pamela jerked her arm back with brutal force.
CRACK!
The Seedling's entire head tore off, tank and all, flying through the air in a slow arc. A bloody trail of green fluid and shredded tissue stretched behind it, splattering across the corridor as the body collapsed to the floor, twitching once before withering into a husk. The tank shattered on the ground, shards scattering as water spilled in every direction.
Pamela stared at the carnage, whip still taut in her hand. "Holy shit," she muttered. "Did I seriously just decapitate that thing like I was yanking weeds out of a garden?"
The Midnight Rose twitched as the whip absorbed vitality from the detached head. The moisture inside the helmet turned into steam, fogging the glass as the remains shriveled up. When nothing was left but dried husks inside, the whip retracted, tightening back into the bracelet form around her wrist.
Pamela's breathing steadied as she walked further down the corridor. A rusted water pipe stuck out of the wall ahead. She gripped it casually, squeezing until the metal crumpled inward with a high-pitched groan. She blinked and gave a quiet laugh. "Damn… I could probably bench press two hundred pounds now. Maybe even three."
She wiped her hands on her pants, and kept walking. "I wonder what the hell the professor's turning me into," she muttered. Her expression hardened. "Whatever it is, I'll make sure he pays. For every one of those poor bastards in tanks that je killed…"
Then her lips curved slightly into a smile, eyes glowing with a dangerous excitement. "Still… if this is just the beginning of what I'm becoming, maybe this evolution thing won't be so bad after all."
