Chapter 9 - The female lead is my love rival? [9]

It was Liu Shu who finally broke the silence, as she really couldn't bear the heavy atmosphere any longer.

"Ahem… I wonder what the director has to say to me?"

Her voice, though calm at first, carried a faint tremble that betrayed her inner unease. Sitting across from Mu Bai in the quiet office, she felt as though the air had become heavier by the second. Even though she had faced all kinds of situations in her years of working as an agent, she could not stop her palms from slightly sweating. She clasped her fingers together under the table, trying to maintain her usual poise.

On the surface, she appeared calm and collected, her posture upright, her chin held at a polite angle. But deep inside, her mind was restless. Why had the director personally called for her? It was rare for someone like Mu Bai, the aloof and distant big boss, to summon an agent directly. She had been in the company for many years, and while she had seen Mu Bai from afar, she could count on one hand the number of times she had actually spoken to her.

Could it be… that she had offended someone unknowingly? Liu Shu quickly searched through her memories of recent days. She always kept good relationships with others and had never been careless in her words or actions. She also took good care of the artists under her, always making sure their needs were met and that they had fair opportunities. She was confident that she had not done anything that would warrant punishment.

Yet, even as she thought so, her heart still raced nervously. She secretly braced herself, already preparing counterarguments in case she was suddenly accused of something. After all, this was not just anyone—this was Mu Bai, the only daughter of the Mu family, the largest shareholder of the company, the legendary agent who had turned multiple nameless actors into movie kings and queens.

Just as her heart was racing, Mu Bai's cool and refreshing voice sounded in the air.

"I've seen Shen Ming, the rising actress under your care. She is very good."

The sound of that voice instantly calmed Liu Shu's anxiety, as though a gentle breeze had swept away the tension in her chest. It was not scolding, not reprimanding, just a simple observation. In that instant, reason returned to her mind. She let out a silent sigh of relief. Of course—if she had really done something wrong, the big boss didn't need to come in person to deal with her. With Mu Bai's position, she could have easily handled it from afar with just a single word.

With those few sentences, Liu Shu immediately understood Mu Bai's intentions. Her eyes widened slightly with realization, and a faint spark of surprise lit up in them.

'Ahh! So Shen Ming is the reason the big boss came to me personally?' she thought, her mind turning quickly. 'It seems that Little Ming has somehow caught Director Mu's eyes. This is actually a very good thing for her! If she can move under the care of the big boss herself, her future will be limitless!'

The corners of Liu Shu's lips lifted into a faint, polite smile, though her heart was already bursting with excitement. She immediately added a few words of praise for Shen Ming, hoping to show just how valuable the young actress was.

"Yes, director! Shen Ming is extremely talented, not only in acting but also in dancing as well. She has an amazing memory too—she can perfectly memorize the lines of a long script after reading it just once. All the previous directors she has worked with praised her very highly for her talent. And she works really hard as well!"

Her voice grew firmer with each word as her confidence returned. Speaking of Shen Ming's qualities was easy; she truly was proud of this young actress.

Mu Bai listened quietly, her cold expression unchanged, but deep inside her heart there was a subtle warmth. Hearing Shen Ming being praised in such glowing terms made her chest feel strangely full, as if someone had lit a small flame there. She did not show it on her face, but her fingers on the armrest of the sofa moved slightly, betraying her mood.

She gave a small nod, her gaze calm and serious. The two of them continued to talk about Shen Ming's future prospects for more than ten minutes. Liu Shu, with her tactful mind, carefully navigated the conversation, praising Shen Ming while also subtly observing Mu Bai's reactions.

At last, with a bright smile spreading across her face, she suggested,

"Director Mu. I can see that you really like Shen Ming…'s talent. I also have too many artists under me, and I cannot really give her the care and attention she deserves. So, I hope that the director can take over her and be her agent. After all, with a gold medal agent like the director personally watching over her, Little Ming's future would be unlimited! Maybe the next movie queen would again be born at the hands of Director Mu!"

Her words were carefully chosen, each one dripping with tact and sincerity.

Across from her, Mu Bai's eyes flickered slightly. She could not help but smile faintly at Liu Shu's sharpness. This woman was indeed clever; with only a few exchanges, she had already seen through her thoughts and presented the best possible solution, all while making it seem like a favor for Mu Bai.

"Yes. Miss Liu really has a lot of matters on her hand. And I have also not taken anyone under my wing for quite some time."

Her voice was calm, but there was an undeniable hint of acceptance in her tone.

Hearing this, Liu Shu immediately seized the opportunity.

"Yes, Director Mu! I really hope that you can take Shen Ming under you!"

Her tone carried excitement now, and her eyes were filled with expectation.

Mu Bai's lips curved slightly, and though the smile was faint, it was still enough to soften her cold appearance.

"Well then, I wouldn't reject Miss Liu's good intentions. I really appreciate agents like you who work hard for the future of their artists. Don't worry, I will not just take anything for free. I have a few good scripts in my hand. I will ask Li Ru to send them to you."

Her words were light but firm, leaving no room for doubt.

Liu Shu's face immediately brightened. The happiness in her eyes was so obvious that it could not be hidden even if she tried. She said excitedly,

"Director Mu is really as amiable as they say."

Her heart was filled with joy. She truly felt as if she had struck gold in this simple meeting. After all, Shen Ming may be talented, but at present she was still only a rising star, still lacking a solid fan base and the recognition that came with time. Compared to her, Shao Ling, another of her artists, was much more popular. Shao Ling had already won several awards and possessed a strong following. Naturally, most of Liu Shu's energy and resources had been focused on her, and she had always felt a twinge of guilt about neglecting Shen Ming.

Now, this problem had practically solved itself. By pushing Shen Ming under Mu Bai's care, not only was her guilt eased, but Shen Ming would also have far better opportunities. With Mu Bai personally guiding her, Shen Ming's path would surely be extraordinary.

And what made Liu Shu feel even more relieved was that Mu Bai was currently without any artists under her. The previous actors she had managed were now all movie kings and queens, successful in their own right, no longer needing her personal attention. This meant that Shen Ming would be able to enjoy Mu Bai's undivided focus, a rare blessing that countless artists could only dream of.

Mu Bai called for Li Ru, and after giving her detailed instructions, the matter was quickly settled. Within a short time, the transfer procedures were arranged, and Shen Ming officially became an artist under Mu Bai.

As Liu Shu left the office, her hands were clutching several scripts from well-known directors—gifts from Mu Bai herself. Her mood was so good that her steps were light as she walked down the corridor. A genuine smile lingered on her face, and her heart was already planning to share the news with Shao Ling.

For her, this was not just a simple deal; it was a win-win situation. And for Shen Ming, this was the beginning of a brand-new chapter under the wing of the most legendary agent in the industry.

In this way, Shen Ming officially became an artist under Mu Bai.
