Chapter 29 - Getting Influenced

The cops decided to investigate their attackers, hoping they might lead them back to Snowflake. Although all of them had been killed, they retrieved some of their bodies to run examinations.

After a thorough investigation, they discovered that these people were involved in human and organ trafficking. The trail led them to their base, but after searching thoroughly, they found no clue linking them to Snowflake.

"This makes no sense. Why the hell would they attack us if they're not together?" Inspector Ray said, frustrated as he stomped his foot on the floor.

They were currently at headquarters, joined by a few intelligence teams who had become involved after learning that the man assumed to be Snowflake was not ordinary.

"Maybe they knew what he was and attacked us to get him for themselves. They're organ traffickers, after all,"

Sergeant Kim commented. After conducting their own research, they found out that Uche was something called a Connect.

"This is killing me. Why would they put their lives on the line for him if he's not their boss? You know what, let's leave it for now and check back later. I went through a lot yesterday,"

Inspector Ray said as he walked off.

Uche remained in Mira's house for the next few days, waiting for Snowflake to contact him. Most of his time was spent with Mira, who was teaching him a few things about vampires — everything he needed to know about their world. The plan was to descend into the vampire world after retrieving his eye from Kante, so they waited patiently for the cunning killer to connect with Uche again.

Uche didn't really know much about vampires, so Mira filled his mind with all the knowledge she had: how to use different vampire skills, the martial arts of their kind, their rules, and so on.

Mira claimed that he wouldn't be able to achieve much with vampire skills until he evolved into a full vampire. He would still go through these lessons at an academy in the vampire world, but she believed it was good to create a foundation beforehand. She focused mostly on teaching him vampire fighting styles, and Uche was surprisingly making great progress in that area.

"You're really a strange one, for real. Tell me, do you thirst for blood?"

Mira commented as she struck Uche's sword away and stomped her foot on his face.

He had explained the extreme hunger he felt back on the battlefield, after waking up from being burned to death. The hunger was not unfamiliar to him, but what bothered him was how his body reacted to the people around him — how he could feel their blood pulse, hear the beat of their hearts, and ultimately, how he had sucked several cops dry before passing out again.

Hearing this, Mira was shocked. According to what she knew, half-blooded vampires shouldn't be able to react to blood until they became full vampires, or unless they lived among other vampires and were influenced by them. Even then, it usually required at least a month, and in the presence of ten or more vampires.

So it didn't make any sense to her. She had known from the start that Uche was different, but what startled her most was the mention of him sucking several cops dry before he was satisfied.

"How… how many exactly?"

She asked, surprised.

"About four, I guess."

Mira couldn't hide her bewilderment. A normal vampire should be satisfied with about five liters of blood to quench their thirst — unless they were losing their sanity due to extreme hunger, in which case they might require double that amount and possibly suck someone dry.

So she couldn't believe Uche had drained four people completely before being satisfied. Even addicted vampires rarely did that. Though he claimed he had been losing his sanity at that moment due to extreme hunger, Mira knew he still shouldn't have drained four people.

'What kind of demon will you become, Uche?'

Mira wondered, thinking back to when he had told her this — three days ago.

They had now spent a total of three days since the event, waiting for Snowflake while also training. They were currently in a different room, still in Mira's house. The room was completely empty except for a few pieces of equipment hung on the walls, which Mira claimed was her personal training room.

"Are you sure you're not thirsty or hungry?" Mira asked, worried. Uche had lost a lot of blood since they started training three days ago, and yet he hadn't requested any. The only explanation she could think of was the massive amount of blood he had consumed that day.

"No, I'm still okay,"

Uche replied, shaking his head as he got back on his feet, taking a fighting stance.

He still hadn't gotten over the fact that he had killed four people and drained their blood completely. He had thought he would feel miserable about it — after all, it was his first time taking human lives — but he felt nothing. It was almost as if he had killed nothing more than a bunch of helpless ants. Uche had been wondering why he felt that way.

'Is that what being a vampire feels like? But she said I'm not a complete vampire yet…'

He thought, as he used his arm to shove away Mira's oncoming fist before throwing a punch of his own. She caught it immediately and gave him a gentle kick in the stomach.

"Alright, let's stop here tonight. Your attacks are pretty nice and dangerous, but you are still lacking in defense and sustaining too many injuries. Remember, the purpose of our training is defense,"

Mira said as she stepped back and leaned against the wall.

Uche nodded as his wounds began healing.

The main purpose of their training was to teach Uche how to defend himself, how to avoid sustaining injuries even in battle. Mira had told him she didn't know what the consequences would be if others in the vampire world discovered his strange healing ability, so she insisted that he learn how to protect himself.

At first, Uche thought he could avoid fights altogether. But after Mira explained that he would be taken to the vampire academy to develop himself for two years, he realized there was no way to escape combat. So, she began teaching him defense.

They left the training room, showered, ate dinner together, and enjoyed a good night's rest.

The next morning, when Uche woke up, he was greeted by the familiar faint pain in his eye socket, which turned into a distinct vision a couple of seconds later.

Snowflake was making a connection again.
