The Treasure Pavilion's delivery was incredibly fast. When Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong returned to their dormitory, a gentle-faced woman was already standing at the door. Seeing Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong, she immediately smiled.
"The main guests have returned; it's time to deliver the goods."
Two exquisite boxes appeared in her hands, which she handed over to Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong respectively.
No need to guess—they contained the soul bones obtained from the Treasure Pavilion.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Huo Yuhao said with joy as he took the box containing the White Dragon Wing. He had no idea how long the woman had waited, so he offered an apology.
The woman seemed slightly surprised at his apology, but soon smiled, "No need to apologize. It's getting late; I should be going."
After greeting them, she left.
"Quick, quick, let's absorb it immediately!"
Wang Dong excitedly entered the room.
After Huo Yuhao closed the door, Wang Dong sat cross-legged on the floor. "Yuhao, you guard me while I absorb this Golden Radiance Left Arm Bone."
"Alright," Huo Yuhao nodded.
As Wang Dong began absorbing the soul bone, the dormitory shimmered with light. Huo Yuhao sat on the chair, mentally conversing with Ilex.
"Teacher, do you think this soul bone can help me absorb the power of the sun?"
"Yes," Ilex replied. "Though I am a necromancer, my fragmented memories suggest I once was a light-element mage. This soul bone contains powerful light energy—its origin is the sun itself."
"After you absorb this soul bone, when you channel the Sun God Pillar's power, you will likely gain unexpected benefits. My explanation may sound awkward, so let me put it this way."
"Think of it like this: as a soul master, your main power comes from soul force and soul skills. Using soul skills consumes soul force, which must then be recovered; your body determines the recovery rate. Similarly, the sun's light is like your soul force, and the Sun God Pillar's skills are like your soul skills."
"This White Dragon Wing soul bone acts as a conduit, allowing you to absorb sunlight more efficiently to charge the Sun God Pillar. Of course, this is only my preliminary guess; further development depends on you."
"I see," Huo Yuhao nodded, understanding why the White Dragon Wing emitted such a familiar blazing aura—it truly was the sun's essence.
"Find a time to absorb it," Ilex said calmly.
"Yuhao, also try to consume that Ten-Thousand-Year Whale Resin. That will unlock more of my power."
Following the principle of first-come, first-served, Ice Emperor spoke after Ilex finished.
"Understood."
Huo Yuhao returned to reality.
By now, Wang Dong had stabilized completely, a golden soft light radiating from him. Strangely, perhaps due to the soul bone, Wang Dong's hair had grown slightly; combined with his fair face, he now looked more feminine.
Huo Yuhao chose not to absorb the White Dragon Wing in the dorm; he would do so after Ma Xiaotao returned, conveniently consuming the whale resin simultaneously.
The night passed slowly.
The second-year advancement exam lasted two and a half days. Out of 164 students, about twenty failed to pass.
They didn't need to worry, as the academy granted retake opportunities due to the high number of successful candidates.
During these two and a half days, with no classes, Huo Yuhao followed his usual routine:
Soul Guidance System in the morning, training in the afternoon.
Though his forging skills weren't exceptional—probably due to limited study time—his engraving of core formations was astonishing. Huo Yuhao had already begun engraving level-two core formations, despite studying engraving for less than two months.
One sunny morning, the makeup retakes began, and the new academic year officially started for those who passed.
In the classroom, Wang Yan set down his books. As class neared its end, he looked around:
"After class, all students chosen as core disciples come to my office. I have something to discuss individually."
Huo Yuhao raised an eyebrow—seems the selection exam was coming soon.
As the bell rang, students dispersed, and core disciples followed Huo Yuhao to Wang Yan's office.
The office was spacious. Everyone lined up: Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, Xiao Xiao, Wu Feng, Zhu Lu, Lan Susu, Lan Luoluo, Huang Chutian, Zhou Sicheng, and Cao Jinxuan.
Wang Yan poured himself a cup of goji tea. "Sit. Off class, we're friends—don't be so formal."
Everyone smiled and sat comfortably.
Wang Yan cleared his throat. "I called you here to inform you that in three days, the academy will hold a core disciple selection exam. Normally, second-year core disciples wouldn't participate, but this time it's different for some reason."
"Teacher Wang, if the selection goes badly, will students be expelled?" Xiao Xiao timidly asked.
Everyone listened intently; Shrek Academy was known for sudden expulsions.
Wang Yan chuckled. "Relax. This exam is only for core disciples under fifteen. No one will be expelled."
The students sighed in relief.
Wang Yan continued: "Thirty core disciples will participate. Only seven will be chosen. The academy will assign these seven a special mission; the details are unclear. I hope you secure at least one or two spots."
Everyone exchanged looks—Shrek's exams were absurdly numerous.
"Ah, almost forgot," Wang Yan tapped his head. "Though only seven are selected, if a few students perform exceptionally, they may be chosen as special students. Quantity and role are unclear."
"Alright, lunch first. Afternoon is physical training. Huo Yuhao, stay behind."
"Yes."
The others left. Huo Yuhao was left with a slight sense of unease—history seemed to be shifting.
"Yuhao," Wang Yan interrupted his thoughts.
"Yes, Teacher Wang," Huo Yuhao focused.
"You, as my disciple, carry heavy responsibilities. You must succeed in this selection. Also, this exam is preparation for the next Shrek Seven Devils. You know the Advanced Soul Master Academy's continental tournament; the seven chosen will be the reserve team, accompanying the main team to the Xingluo Empire. In five years, the reserve team will become the main team and earn the Shrek Seven Devils title."
"You must grow into a core member of the main team within five years. With your twin martial souls—one top-tier spirit-type, one ultimate ice-type—the academy highly anticipates your success. Don't disappoint everyone."
"I will," Huo Yuhao smiled.
"The teacher believes in you. Go rest," Wang Yan patted his shoulder.
Outside, Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao approached.
"Class leader, what did Teacher Wang say?" Xiao Xiao asked.
"Nothing—just asking if I eat well and sleep soundly," Huo Yuhao replied casually.
Xiao Xiao: "..."
"You talk too much; probably has something serious to discuss," Wang Dong rolled his eyes.
"Only you understand me, Wang Dong," Huo Yuhao smiled. "Let's eat."
Two more days passed.
The people Huo Yuhao waited for safely returned to the academy—Ma Xiaotao, Yan Shaozhe, and Song Lao.
At night, Huo Yuhao visited Ma Xiaotao in the inner courtyard.
Yan Shaozhe and Cai Meier observed the White Dragon Wing soul bone with astonishment.
Especially Yan Shaozhe—knowing how long Mu En had preserved this top-tier soul bone, its value was immense.
Its owner had caused the legendary Dragon God Douluo's life to near its end.
After learning how Huo Yuhao obtained it, Yan Shaozhe understood Mu En's intentions. He solemnly said, "Yuhao, the teacher wants to entrust you with something."
Huo Yuhao exchanged glances with Ma Xiaotao. "Please speak."
Yan Shaozhe took a deep breath. "After you absorb this soul bone, tomorrow the teacher will take you to the Sea God Pavilion. If successful, you'll become the greatest contributor to Shrek Academy."
"Teacher, what is it? Sounds serious," Ma Xiaotao asked.
Huo Yuhao, seeing Yan Shaozhe's earnest expression, nodded. "If it's within a disciple's ability, I'll do my best."
Yan Shaozhe smiled with satisfaction. "Good. Don't delay—absorb the soul bone now. I'll guard you."
"No problem."
Huo Yuhao sat cross-legged. His body radiated powerful spiritual waves and silver-white soul force, wrapping the White Dragon Wing on the table.
A strong pull emerged. The wing floated behind him. Huo Yuhao took a deep breath, channeling his mind and soul force to absorb it.
Though he already had the Ice Emperor's body soul bone, it didn't conflict with the White Dragon Wing.
Upon contact, the wing radiated dazzling light, like the rising sun, threads of light almost solidified, entwining around his back.
A scorching aura surged into Huo Yuhao, his skin flushed red. A faint dragon roar echoed, emanating from the fusion point.
Yan Shaozhe swiftly moved them outside to the grassland.
Outside, Huo Yuhao became a radiant beacon, golden-white light illuminating everything. Dragon-scale-like light patterns shimmered in the air.
"So hot," Ma Xiaotao remarked, sensing the fire-attribute energy.
Inside Huo Yuhao's mind, endless dragon roars echoed. A dragon formed entirely of light circled him.
The sleeping Tianmeng Ice Silkworm awoke to the deafening roar, staring blankly.
"What's happening?"
"Residual White Dragon soul," Ice Emperor noted. Dragonkind were supreme; even Ice-Blue Scorpion tribes would submit.
Although fragmented, the dragon soul was still a dragon.
Tianmeng Ice Silkworm was now fully alert, confused. "Did Yuhao secretly get a dragon?"
"Roar!"
Above the mental space, dragon roars reverberated, stirring Huo Yuhao's spirit sea like ocean waves.
"Noisy!"
As the dragon attacked, a terrifying scene unfolded. Beside the Sun God Pillar, a black stream spread, forming endless ripples. A robed figure holding a staff appeared, over 300 meters tall.
With the command "Noisy!", Huo Yuhao's spirit sea calmed, and the White Dragon shrieked under the black stream's strike.
"You have fallen countless years ago. Why not submit?"
Ilex's voice exuded authority. "Two choices: submit to my disciple and receive a new body, or be refined into an undying undead soul."
He tapped his staff, releasing gray energy that filled the spirit sea outside the Sun God Pillar—apocalyptic in scale.
Ice Emperor and Tianmeng Ice Silkworm were stunned, observing Ilex's immense figure and hearing the killing intent.
Even Ice Emperor found Ilex's display more terrifying than Snow Emperor in rage.
Huo Yuhao sensed something wrong—the residual dragon soul was resistant, trying to escape.
Under Ilex's pressure, the White Dragon soul submitted. Her fragmented memories held traces of fallen dragons, compelling her to flee.
"Yuhao, use the Sun God Pillar to suppress her completely. Tomorrow, I'll give you a great gift—alive, a dragon soul is the ultimate material."
"Too bad there's only one dragon soul; otherwise, I'd create a necro-dragon army."
Huo Yuhao remembered the skeletal dragons in the half-dimensional necro-world.
He acted swiftly. His third eye opened, the Sun God Pillar released sunlight like the first rays of dawn.
Though the first star ring wasn't fully activated, the Pillar's divine aura sufficed within his spirit sea.
Ilex retracted his spiritual energy. Upon contact with sunlight, the dragon shivered; its eyes cleared, showing reverence.
"White Dragon, your choice." Ilex commanded.
"I submit," the dragon—sounding feminine—said quickly.
"Good. Your dragon soul, aged and broken, now form a dragon cocoon. Here, your soul power won't fade," Ilex nodded.
The dragon rotated, transforming into a white dragon pattern in midair.
Ice Emperor and Tianmeng Ice Silkworm exchanged looks—the spirit sea grew lively.
Without interference, Huo Yuhao absorbed the White Dragon Wing faster, its golden-white glow spreading.
Yan Shaozhe waved, forming a soul-force shield to contain the light.
Half an hour later…
"Whoosh!"
As Huo Yuhao's aura stabilized, a pair of ethereal platinum wings erupted from his back, seven meters wide, radiant like auroras and crystal flames.
"So beautiful," Ma Xiaotao exclaimed.
"White Dragons' wings are formed entirely from light power, hence their beauty," Cai Meier explained.
Huo Yuhao opened his eyes, leaped, and soared with the wings.
On the grassland, Yan Shaozhe and Cai Meier looked up. Wherever Huo Yuhao passed, stardust-like light streaks appeared, dazzling as a galaxy.
But his flight didn't last—he collided with the soul-force shield, wings dissipated, and he fell.
Yan Shaozhe and Cai Meier: "..."
"Yuhao," Ma Xiaotao said, leaping to catch him.
"I'm fine, just dizzy," Huo Yuhao waved it off.
"Ahem," Yan Shaozhe approached, hiding his embarrassment. "Xiaotao, take him to rest; he's tough, won't break."
Ma Xiaotao nodded, still holding him princess-style.
Huo Yuhao, close to her, pretended to be weak, closing his eyes.
Ma Xiaotao smiled knowingly, not revealing his trick.
