Chapter 22 - [22] Servant

Haruto studied them with curiosity.

Their delicate features remained unchanged, with no demonic horns to ruin their beauty.

In fact, after revealing their true forms, Rias and Sona's allure only intensified.

Their glossy wings and tails draped them in an air of mystique.

Under the overwhelming presence of high-class devils, their flawless figures became even more enticing.

Initially surprised, Haruto soon began to feel pressure under the sheer force of Rias and Sona's auras.

It wasn't that they were targeting him—it was simply the vast gap in power.

Forcing himself to stay composed, he asked, "So, when you mentioned 'Pawn' earlier... you meant using Evil Pieces to turn me into a low-class devil and make me your servant?"

"Correct. Both Rias and I still have pieces left."

"But I'm just an ordinary person who's barely learned to harness magic. Why choose me?"

Haruto truly hadn't expected to receive offers from these two the moment he stepped into this world.

"As I mentioned earlier, the stronger the person, the more pieces they require."

Sona explained, "Having fifteen pieces doesn't necessarily mean you must have fifteen servants. The stronger the individual, the more pieces are required for their conversion. Moreover, servants you personally train will have better coordination with you."

They didn't inform Haruto about mutation pieces, sacred gears, Longinus, or fallen angels.

First, Haruto hadn't agreed to become a servant yet.

The second reason was that Haruto's current strength was too low; knowing these details wouldn't be useful.

Haruto didn't give an immediate answer. After a moment of contemplation, he asked again, "There must be some restrictions after becoming a servant, right?"

From his memories, he didn't recall any significant restrictions—servants seemed more like companions. But things related to devils couldn't be that simple. For one, how could loyalty be guaranteed so effortlessly after conversion?

"Yes," Rias said, flipping her crimson hair with a smile. "After conversion, there's a natural affinity between the king and their servants. The devil blood within the servants is essentially inherited from the king. Evil Pieces are precious, and the bond between a king and their servants can sometimes surpass even familial trust."

'Blood within the body'—Haruto keenly noted the key detail. It sounded somewhat like how vampires turned others, though perhaps with less absolute control.

His restless thoughts settled. Blind faith in books was worse than having no books at all. He couldn't rely solely on vague memories to make this decision. Becoming a servant would have to wait for now.

Haruto was indeed tempted by Rias—and Sona was quite appealing too. Moreover, becoming their servant would undoubtedly allow him to grow stronger quickly. The pure-blooded devil families that had endured for generations were all incredibly powerful forces. Haruto vaguely remembered that Rias's elder brother was one of the current Four Great Satans. With their full support, even an ordinary person with mediocre talent could soar to great heights.

But his true foundation was his Talent Extraction ability. His seemingly exceptional magical talent was just a byproduct of that ability. If he were constantly surrounded by people far stronger than himself, not only would the risk of exposure increase, but becoming anyone's servant would likely restrict his freedom to "mingle" freely. That would severely limit the effectiveness of his Talent Extraction ability.

Most importantly, Haruto wasn't sure just how much control a king had over their servants. Even if he longed to use this path to ascend to a high-class devil, obtain his own Evil Pieces, and have his own servants, if it came with heavy restrictions, it might be better to develop quietly on his own.

If Beelzebub could create Evil Pieces, then once Haruto reached that level of power, he could probably craft a similar artifact—if not identical, at least functionally comparable. A harem of long-legged, slender-waisted, curvaceous female servants... just the thought was thrilling. And of course, he'd need some legal lolis and mature beauties too.

After weighing his options, Haruto decided to postpone his decision. "President, Rias-senpai, I'd like some time to think it over," he said hesitantly. "With both of you inviting me, I'm not sure whom to choose."

Refusing outright wasn't an option—this was a prime opportunity to deepen his ties with Rias and Sona. And it wasn't just them; their servants included many beautiful girls of different types, all potential resources for his growth.

Everyone present was perceptive enough to immediately grasp the subtext of his words: whoever offered the most benefits would win him over.

Just waiting for the right price, nothing unusual.

"Haruto-kun, the relationship between a king and their servants is like family. I'll take good care of you."

Rias blinked deliberately, emphasizing the words "take care."

Sona refused to be outdone and hinted meaningfully, "If you become my servant, not only will I take good care of you, but Tsubaki will too. Plus, there are many beautiful girls in the student council."

If quality couldn't win, then quantity would have to suffice.

Rias glared, silently cursing Sona for playing dirty.

Under pressure, she had no choice but to raise the stakes.

"Not just me, but Akeno, as your senior, will also take good care of you—just like this."

Akeno's face flushed slightly, as Haruto was still lying in her arms at that moment.

His restless hands had even slipped under her skirt and blouse.

Feeling the warmth and smoothness beneath his fingers, Haruto almost agreed right then.

He glanced between Sona and Tsubaki, then at Rias and Akeno, before timidly asking, "Can I be both of your servants?"

"..." ×4

Ugh, what a playboy. ×4

"No, you can only choose one!" Rias said firmly. "Don't worry, no matter who you pick, no one will give you trouble."

Rias and Sona were not just rivals but also friends.

Haruto sulked and muttered under his breath, "Why not? There's no rule saying two people can't share one servant."

His muttering was loud enough for all four of them to hear, leaving them momentarily stunned.

"Actually... no one's ever done it before, but there really isn't such a rule."

Sona seriously considered the possibility.

"If Haruto becomes both our servants, as long as we don't play Rating Games at the same time, it shouldn't be a problem."

Rias couldn't accept it.

"That may be true, but does that mean I'd have to notify you every time I want to play a Rating Game?"

"Good point. It's fine while we're all at the academy, but it would be troublesome later."

Servants were bound for life—there was no changing or leaving.

If a servant died, the used pieces wouldn't return.

Rias cut Sona off. "Let's drop this idea. I'll never agree to it."

She did like Haruto, but not enough to share him.

The little princess of the Gremory family wouldn't stoop to sharing a servant with someone else.

"Right, I don't really agree either."

Sona turned to Haruto. "Haruto, think it over carefully. No matter who you choose, we'll treat you sincerely."

Haruto fell silent.

Why did this feel like a marriage proposal? It made him seem like a jerk.

Though he kind of was one...
