Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Finding ingredients in such a short time?

A Japanese omelet—its method was extremely simple. In fact, you could even buy pre-made soup stock packs in any Japanese supermarket, made for tamagoyaki. It was basically a ready-made product: just heat it and serve.

In Totsuki Academy, this didn't even count as real cooking. Trying to pass off supermarket-level food as cuisine? Takumi's brain nearly shut down.

"He's lost it. That guy is definitely crazy."

Isami, too, stared in confusion at the omelet they made. It had no special traits at all, completely different from Yukinoshita's usual dishes. And yet...

The two of them were completely serious.

It wasn't just Takumi. Almost the entire class had their eyes on the pair. Chef Inui's gaze especially never left them. As the faint aroma spread, filling the room, everyone seemed to be waiting to see what result their dish would bring.

No one could figure out why Yukinoshita agreed to make something like this, but now it seemed the only way to know was to taste it.

After the final plating, Yukinoshita stepped forward with the dish, with Hachiman following behind her. Since they weren't true partners, walking side by side didn't feel right.

When Chef Inui saw the Japanese omelet before her, she clapped happily.

"Wonderful! Finally, something that isn't fish. I can't wait!"

Yukinoshita: "Please enjoy."

Chef Inui picked up a spoon without making any remarks. The moment the spoon touched the Japanese omelet, the egg skin seemed to melt like ice cream, soft and springy.

"Huh?" Chef Inui looked a little dazed, staring at the dish in her hand. Then she placed the omelet on the spoon and slid it straight into her mouth.

As expected, even though it was grilled, the omelet melted in her mouth like ice cream. Her jaw didn't even need to move; the omelet just broke apart on its own. The warm broth flowed down her throat, filling her stomach with the rich taste of egg.

But that wasn't all. Somehow, Hikigaya had grilled this omelet only halfway through. After the broth reached her stomach, the slowly melting omelet followed right after. The strong egg flavor blended with the broth, creating a brand new taste.

Chef Inui's mouth was completely full, unable to speak, but judging from the look on her face, everyone already knew the result.

Takumi couldn't hold back anymore. He rushed over to Hikigaya, looking confused, and asked:

"What on earth did you do? It's just an ordinary omelet. Even with broth, I don't think it should taste this special."

Hachiman only shrugged and answered naturally:

"I don't know anything. I was just helping out. It was Yukinoshita's idea."

Hearing her name, Yukinoshita slowly turned around. She completely ignored Hikigaya, her face expressionless, and asked coldly:

"What is it?"

"N-no... nothing..."

Takumi cast a resentful look at Hikigaya before walking away.

Hikigaya also gave Yukinoshita a fearful glance. He hadn't expected her presence to be this overwhelming...

Finally coming back from her moment of enjoyment, Chef Inui cupped her cheek with one hand, a faint smile appearing on her face.

"If I'm not mistaken, you worked on both the egg skin and the broth."

"A dish that should be savory and salty, yet you added honey and passion fruit while grilling the egg skin, which brought out its flavor and completely removed the egg's smell."

Takumi: "Wait... it was passion fruit?"

Isami: "That makes sense. After eating so much meat, the passion fruit helps with digestion."

Chef Inui clapped her hands: "Exactly. How thoughtful—you even considered such details for others."

Hearing her words, the others who were still cooking started whispering again:

"As expected of Yukinoshita. She even thought of that."

"I told you, there was nothing to worry about. The one teaming up with her is the one just reaping the benefits."

"Yukinoshita's skills are beyond doubt, but... it still annoys me..."

The voices of Chef Inui, Takumi, and the others all reached their ears. But even so, Hachiman and Yukinoshita stayed silent. In the middle of this noise, Yukinoshita secretly glanced at Hikigaya again.

From start to finish, she had no idea about the honey and passion fruit. Everyone thought it was her idea, but only she knew the truth—she had been relying on him all along.

Chef Inui: "That's not all. If I'm right, I can taste a light hint of milk in the broth. Where did you find that?"

Since they had already planned how to make the omelet from the start, the rest was just about finding the right ingredients. Luckily, Hikigaya's dorm had someone who worked with animals often, and over time, Hachiman had learned how to safely milk a cow and process it himself.

But when the word "milk" was mentioned, everyone's eyes widened again.

"They didn't just find honey, eggs, and passion fruit—they even found a cow? In such a short time, how is that even possible..."

Takumi was stunned. He thought finding wild ducks was already impressive, his observation skills among the best. But the other side actually found a cow.

The only reason he didn't use it was because handling ingredients like that wasn't easy. But still...

The arrogance in his eyes was gone. All that remained was curiosity. He was now more eager than ever to know—who exactly was this Hikigaya who suddenly appeared in their midst?
