Long ago, the incarnations of celestial beings clashed with a single mortal on a continent now known as Chasm: the Graveyard of Madness.
After the fierce battle, the entire continent was left devastated. No sign of life remained, and the land could no longer sustain a civilization.
In that age, many lost souls still remembered their emotions and sins after death, wandering the land in the form of vengeful spirits.
Over time, they began to corrupt and lose their minds. To survive, they merged together. However, as their emotions also merged, they started losing their individuality, and the strongest emotions took control. The first emotions to emerge were vengeance, sorrow, and envy.
These storms of emotions gathered shadows, ash, bones, and rotting flesh to form their own bodies.
Since they are condensed, soul-like beings, they are called Soulborne.
