Chapter 9 - overreaction

'I'll put the kettle on, I don't think he will be leaving anytime soon' Linda says dejectedly while gesturing to the window with her hand.

She was hoping to go out for a late lunch earlier but now she was a prisoner! In her own home!

What was her life coming too?

Both women sit back down, once the tea is made.

'Maybe Lewis will get bored and give up' Linda says hopefully, her eyes reflecting the sorrow she feels to be a prisoner.

'I hope so, for now it's just a waiting game, I'm so sorry I've brought trouble to your door Linda, I had no clue he would follow me here'

'It wouldn't be the first time shay, don't worry about it' Linda says comfortingly while gently rubbing Shayla's arm.

In actual fact she really didn't like strangers banging on her door, but for Shay, she would let it happen. What we're friends for?

'now you've stopped crying, tell me what the hell is happening? Somethings clearly gone wrong'

Linda hated to see anyone cry, it pulled at her heart strings so all she wanted to do was to wrap Shayla up in cotton wool and protect her from this harsh world. Being older than Shayla Linda always felt like a mother hen towards her, she couldn't help but feel the need to protect Shayla.

'Leroy tried to cover up the scandal' Shayla mumbles sadly, still reeling with anger.

Linda's face screws up in confusion at this before asking hesitantly 'Isn't that a good thing?'

'it's humiliating enough having this scandal out there, but for Leroy to cover it up, his tried to keep it a secret from me! I don't know how to feel about it, all I know is I'm angry with him' Shayla explains her thoughts quietly. Then adds on

'I want no secrets but his already tried to keep one from me'

'He didn't keep the scandal a secret shay, Scope's news just died down the public backlash' Linda explains in a comforting voice, trying to help Shayla see sense in this charade of anger. Then adds widely 'You know full well what the public are like, this breakup scandal would have just been the first, who knows what would have been leaked next'

The media had always liked to cling to juicy stories, if it was explosive news, reporters would do anything to get a better story.

No matter if it was true or a lie they didn't care, as long as they got sales and readers, nothing else mattered to them. As long as the topic got readers talking they didn't care who they hurt nor would they think about the repercussions. It was silly for these reporters to think they could run around recklessly posting scandals, especially this time! This time the SHARK was now involved!

'Is he still there?' Shayla asks curiously after the pair have finished their tea, she had listened to Linda's words and had realised how stupid she had been, letting her anger get the better of her.

Linda gets to her feet then peeks through the curtain at her lounge bay window.

'Yep, you know I should probably thank him, I've always wanted a guard dog' Linda mocks causing Shayla to burst out laughing.

Sometimes a good joke can defuse one's negativity.

While the girls laugh between themselves they are totally unaware that a sleek black sports car has just pulled up outside.

Not just any sports car, Leroy's one!

Leroy parks the car haphazardly before climbing out, walking straight over to Lewis.

'Kick the door in' he orders sternly, his eyes blazing with fiery anger. He needs his woman safely in his arms, where she belongs!

'President Shark! You can't be serious' Lewis exclaims frantically. He had never seen Leroy so riled up, what an earth did this woman do?

Leroy glares deadly daggers at Lewis until Lewis sighs heavily, before unwillingly booting the door.

The loud bang of the splintering door makes both women scream in fright, causing more of Linda's neighbours to become aware of the commotion outside, but Lewis has no choice but to boot the door again and again until the door flies apart, scattering precariously across the ground.

Lewis steps back, then walks over to the accumulating crowd, he needs to settle these nosy neighbours or this will be on the six o'clock news.

Leroy on the other hand steps through the doorway confidently.

His here to collect his woman, whether she likes it or not!

He confidently walks through the small hallway to the first open door he finds. His eyes scour the living room before finding Linda, his eyes skim behind her body, settling his fiery gaze on Shayla.

Shayla's minds a mess. What Linda had said earlier had made her overthink, her reaction earlier was uncalled for, She wants to explain herself but is now scared to open up her heart to a furious looking Leroy. What an earth was she thinking before! Telling him they should end things!

Shayla wishes she could bury her head in the sand, unfortunately for Shayla this doesn't seem possible as Leroy strolls forward to the trembling Linda who bravely starts screaming at him.

'What the hell do you think you're doing? Shayla doesn't want you here! You best leave before I call the police'

Leroy pulls Linda aside, swiftly removing her out of the way of his prey.

He releases Linda then pulls Shayla up while telling her sternly 'I believe we both need to have a little talk, wife, don't you think?'

'I'm, I'm not your wife yet Leroy' Shayla stammers out but Leroy just smirks down at his woman, before mumbling huskily

'But you will be' he looks at the watch on his wrist before saying 'in five hours time, so sit down and we can talk this out, we have our wedding to attend'

Shayla blushes brightly at Leroy's words then she flings her arms around Leroy's waist and sobs 'sorry' onto his chest, causing his immaculate white shirt to have wet see through patches.

Leroy snakes his arms around Shayla's sobbing frame, rubbing soothing circles along her back.

A man should comfort his woman when she's feeling low, only then will he be able to feel pleasure seeing her highs.

Linda watches the couples interaction in amazement. Wasn't Shayla angry with Leroy? Wasn't that why she came to her crying?

She couldn't understand what had changed.

Once Shayla has calmed her emotions she pulls herself back from the hug and explains herself

'I'm so sorry for screaming at you, I thought you were trying to keep the scandal a secret from me'

'Linda made me realise that I was wrong, I overreacted, You didn't cover up the scandal to keep it a secret, you were trying to get the public's attention away from me'

Leroy steps forward and places a light kiss on Shayla's lips whispering quietly

'I forgive you' before picking her up and launching her over his shoulder, walking out.

Linda stands there with her mouth hanging open for a moment before rushing after them shouting

'Wait! What about my door'

Now that this had blown over Leroy wanted to get his soon to be wife ready for their wedding. He lightly places a stunned Shayla into the passenger seat of his sports care, buckling her in. He swiftly closes the door before walking around and getting into the driver's seat. Leroy starts the car and drives off, ready for his special day.

Meanwhile Lewis who has finally settled and cleared the crowd outside of Linda's home try's to get into his car, all is well until a hand grabs the door of his car, stopping it from closing.

'What about my door?' Linda questions with her eyebrows raised, he had kicked her door down. Was he seriously going to leave her home in the current state it was in.

'I will arrange for the mess to be cleared and your door to be replaced mam, for now though, I need to go' Lewis explains curtly before swiping Linda's hand away to close the car door. He then pulls out from the driveway and makes his way to the registry office.
