Chapter 49 - The Void Century

When the crew was at a loss, Roger slowly closed his eyes, shutting out every stray thought, and focused entirely on the world around him.

Moments later, he tapped into that mysterious gift he'd been born with — the Voice of All Things.

The animals of the island began hopping toward him, chattering and squeaking, sharing secrets only they knew. The trees swayed gently, their leaves rustling as if whispering messages through the wind.

Then Roger's eyes snapped open, a confident grin spreading across his face.

"I've found the entrance!" he shouted.

Following his lead, Gaban steered the Oro Jackson through an invisible barrier, narrowly leaping past a roaring waterfall, until at last they reached the shore of an island bathed in a sacred glow.

The place looked like paradise cut off from the world — towering greenery, a crisp, life-filled air. At its heart stood a colossal tree, hundreds of meters tall, its branches hung with strange, glowing fruit. Beside it, a massive stone slab loomed, etched with unreadable ancient characters.

It was Oden's turn. With practiced care, he fitted the Road Poneglyphs into the gaps of the stone. At last, the full text was revealed, and he began to read aloud:

"**Eight hundred and seventy-five years ago, the Sun God returned to this world.

Seeing the land torn apart and people suffering, he reshaped it with his divine power.

But he could not remain here forever. To protect this new world, he left behind eight powerful retainers: Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

He also chose a man — Joy Boy — as his representative, entrusting the Eight to serve him and safeguard the peace.

At the end of the world, on the Final Island, the Sun God planted a divine tree. Once every 800 years it would bear fruit — the Devil Fruits.

These fruits draw on the desires of humankind. The stronger the wish, the stronger the fruit.**"

In Joy Boy's era, the eight guardians served him with loyalty, bringing prosperity. But one among them, Uranus, grew proud and ambitious.

To him, Joy Boy was just a mortal — unworthy of command. Uranus schemed in secret, urging the others to rebel. But six of them refused, knowing it would be treachery against the Sun God.

Exposed, Uranus panicked. To save himself and seize power, he rushed alone to the Final Island, using his ability to consume and steal the Divine Tree's energy.

Empowered beyond the others, Uranus forced five of them — Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn — into submission. But Neptune and Pluto stood firm, refusing to bow. They revealed his betrayal to Joy Boy.

A war erupted.

Joy Boy, armed with the Sun God's might, initially overpowered Uranus. But Uranus used the most despicable tactic of all — taking innocent civilians hostage.

Joy Boy, bound by his duty to protect the people, could not strike him down. In the end, with grief in his heart, Joy Boy fell to Uranus.

Neptune and Pluto died in the battle as well. But before passing, Neptune cursed the Divine Tree:

From now on, all who eat its fruits shall be cursed by the sea — stripped of freedom upon the ocean.

Thus began the Devil Fruit curse.

And Uranus, victorious through betrayal, claimed the world for himself.

That man… is the one we now know as Imu.**"

The text went on:

The Five Elders are the descendants of those five retainers who submitted to Uranus. Under his rule, they became the enforcers of the World Government.

The Celestial Dragons were those who followed him during the rebellion. Under Imu's command, they built twenty kingdoms, and over the next hundred years, they hunted down and silenced all who knew the truth.

But not all were wiped out. Survivors passed down their will, marking themselves with the name D.

The Clan of D became the sworn enemies of Imu and the Celestial Dragons.

The D, it said, stood for Discipline — punishment.

A prophecy was etched into the stone:

Eight hundred years later, when the Divine Tree bears fruit again, a child of destiny will rise. They will lead the world to rebel, and deliver punishment upon Imu and the Dragons.

And so, the Void Century was erased from history, hidden by bloodshed… waiting for the day its truth would resurface.

(Author's Note: This is my version of the lost century, based on current hints. Let's see how Oda "betrays" us when he finally reveals it!)

T/N: Don't really agree with the author's version, personally I think D. probably stands for Dawn.
