Serafall's eyes sparkled, practically glowing after hearing Shuo's proposal. He couldn't help the sly grin that tugged at his lips—he knew this would work. Having devoured every volume of DxD in his previous life, Shuo understood Serafall better than she understood herself. There was no way she'd turn down a chance to be the star of a magical girl production.
He recalled how, in the manga, Serafall had dragged Sona and Rias to the live-action audition for "Milky," the magical girl anime. She'd even eyed Issei Hyoudou—the infamous Breast Dragon Emperor—and Heaven's Seraph Gabriel as rivals. That was why Shuo had deliberately mentioned Gabriel earlier, just to push her buttons.
Sure enough, after a moment's anticipation, Serafall squealed, flinging her arms around Shuo in a whirlwind hug.
"This is my dream come true! I can't believe it—it's perfect!"
"I want to film it! Hurry, give it to me!"
Sona, watching her sister bounce around like a kid on sugar, tried to pry her off.
"Sis, calm down! You're getting way too worked up!"
Serafall just beamed, undeterred. "Sona-chan, this is everything I've ever wanted! Just imagine me, the magical girl, dazzling all three realms—I can't help but get excited!"
After a little back-and-forth, Serafall agreed to head home with the group and sort out the details later. Sona, realizing she couldn't stop her sister's rampage, simply gave up.
Back at the house, Shuo paused at the entryway, taken aback by the scene that greeted him.
"Shuo-chan, you're back! Huh? Serafall-sama's here too?"
Rias's eyes lit up when she saw him, but her gaze flicked to Serafall—now decked out in a pink magical girl costume—and she couldn't hide her surprise.
"Heh, I thought we were coming together, Serafall. You move way too fast."
Serafall giggled, sticking out her tongue. "I just missed Sona-chan so much! But I didn't expect you to be here already, Sirzechs!"
Shuo followed the voices and instantly recognized the tall, red-haired man seated in the living room—Sirzechs, one of the four Maou of the Underworld. Beside him sat Rias and their father, Zeoticus Gremory. The head maid, Akeno, and the rest stood respectfully behind them.
Suddenly, the system chimed in his mind:
Ding! New check-in character: Sirzechs Gremory. Mission tier: Purple. Objective: Terrify him!
Shuo's heart skipped a beat.
A Purple Tier mission—his first. Even higher than Serafall's Black Tier task.
Serafall was already a peak Maou, but Sirzechs? He was one of the Underworld's three living Transcendents, and one of only two among the Maou. His power was legendary.
But then—
Why didn't Zeoticus Gremory trigger a mission?
He'd been the Gremory head, and his son was a Transcendent. Now he was just… background decor.
DxD world logic: some people are born to be side characters.
Still, Shuo was satisfied. A Purple Tier mission was more than enough. The objective? He could easily pull it off during the upcoming Three Factions Summit.
And just imagine—Michael from Heaven, Azazel from Hell, Vali the White Dragon Emperor, maybe even Katerea. Once he'd wrung all the rewards from those encounters…
Even if the loot was mediocre, the sheer volume would be Maou-level, peak-tier stuff.
Damn.
If things went as planned, even without his Azure Dragon power, only Ophis and Great Red might stand a chance against him.
Shuo's pulse quickened at the thought.
"Shuo-kun, my father and I have been hoping to meet you."
Sirzechs's voice snapped Shuo out of his daydream.
"Shuo-chan, this is…"
Rias started the introductions, but Shuo cut her off with a smile.
"Rias, I'm your boyfriend, remember? How could I not know your family?"
He turned to the two men, offering a respectful nod. "Sirzechs, Uncle Zeoticus—pleasure to finally meet you."
Both men smiled warmly, nodding in return.
"Since you're Rias's fiancé, we're all family here. No need for formalities," Sirzechs said, his tone genuinely welcoming.
Shuo relaxed, settling into easy conversation with his future brother-in-law.
As the group chatted, Zeoticus suddenly spoke up, his eyes twinkling with paternal pride.
"Hehe, Shuo and Rias really are a perfect match. Tell me, what do you think of my daughter?"
The room fell silent. Every gaze zeroed in on Shuo. Rias's heart hammered, her cheeks blooming red. Sona and Akeno, both contenders for the main wife spot, stiffened. The other girls—those with history but less claim—tried to look unfazed, though a hint of jealousy crept into their eyes.
Shuo glanced around, then answered without hesitation.
"Uncle, I think Rias is beautiful. And yes—I really do like her."
Zeoticus's smile widened.
"Excellent! That's what I like to hear."
But then he dropped the bombshell.
"So… when are you two getting married? Rias's mother and I can't wait to see your children!"
"F-Father!"
Rias's face went crimson, and the other girls looked absolutely shell-shocked.
Shuo, seeing the mix of anxious and crestfallen faces, offered a diplomatic solution.
"I'd love to marry Rias, but we're still in school. Maybe we can get engaged first—and save the wedding for later."
Relief swept through the room.
For Rias, an engagement would give her a serious edge in the main wife contest.
Sona and Akeno, meanwhile, clung to hope—no wedding meant they still had a shot.
Sirzechs and Zeoticus exchanged satisfied glances. With a powerful, promising son-in-law like Shuo, what more could they ask for?
