"Mayuri, what did you just say?!"
She stared at him, cheeks flushed. "I… I want you to try on this girl's school uniform."
Shuo froze. For a moment, his mind went blank. "You want me to wear… the uniform you just changed out of?"
Mayuri's gaze darted away, but her voice was soft and insistent. "Mm. Because… I want to see what Shuo-kun looks like in girls' clothes, just once."
Shuo's eye twitched. "Can you tell me why you want to see me in—women's clothing?"
She pouted, lips jutting out in a way that was both stubborn and adorable. "You got to see me in cosplay. Besides… everyone else has seen you crossdress, but I haven't. It's not fair! Or… do you not want to wear something I've worn?"
Want to see, want to see, want to see—the thought practically radiated from her sparkling pink eyes.
Shuo looked at her, taking in her hopeful expression, the hint of a blush on her cheeks. For a second, he nearly melted. This girl's cuteness was lethal.
He let out a long, defeated sigh. "Fine. But you're not allowed to sneak any photos like Miku did."
Mayuri nodded, suddenly all innocence. "I promise."
Shuo shot her a look. He was starting to suspect Mayuri was picking up bad habits from Miku.
"Honestly, what is it with you girls and wanting to see me in drag?" he muttered, shaking his head as he ducked into the changing room.
He slipped into the uniform Mayuri had just worn, adjusted the collar, and checked his reflection in the mirror. His skin was somehow paler than most girls', his features delicate—he could almost pass for a real schoolgirl.
He pushed open the door with a resigned sigh. "There. Happy now?"
Mayuri had been waiting, anticipation written all over her face. The moment she saw him, her eyes went wide, and her lips parted in amazement.
"Wow… Shuo-kun, you look even more like a girl than I do! This is a talent—you should develop it!"
Shuo facepalmed. "Please don't say things that'll get me misunderstood!"
Mayuri just giggled, eyes shining with mischief and admiration. Shuo shivered. Was she really being corrupted by Miku?
A little while later, Shuo trudged out of the cosplay shop, looking utterly spent. The reason? Mayuri's relentless pleading had worn him down, and he'd ended up agreeing to take a whole series of cosplay photos with her.
Honestly, these girls had him completely figured out—they knew he'd cave to a little softness every time.
He tried not to think about the way the shop clerk had looked at him, equal parts pity and suspicion. The memory alone made him want to crawl into a hole.
Beside him, Mayuri was happily scrolling through her phone, reviewing the photos and videos of their "adventures." Shuo wanted to delete every last one, but seeing her so happy, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
They'd gotten so caught up in the fun that they completely missed lunch. With their stomachs rumbling, they headed to a nearby shopping mall.
Mayuri's eyes lit up at the sight of the food court. "Shuo-kun, I want strawberry shortcake."
"Two strawberry shortcakes, please," Shuo ordered.
"And takoyaki!"
"Two orders of takoyaki!"
"I like you."
"Two orders of—huh?!" Shuo's brain stalled for a second, the words not quite registering.
He turned to Mayuri, who was already turning away, cheeks burning. "What did you just say? I don't think I caught that."
"It's nothing. If you didn't hear, forget it." She darted off, face red as a cherry.
Shuo chased after her, catching her hand. "No way. I want to hear you say it again."
"Absolutely not!"
"Please, Mayuri-chan, just one more time?"
Mayuri stopped, lips pressed together, face aglow with embarrassment. After a moment, she whispered, "Fine. But only once, so listen carefully…"
She took a shaky breath, eyes shimmering. "I like you. I really, really like you, Shuo-kun."
Shuo's face broke into a wide, joyful grin.
Mayuri's words hung in the air, her cheeks stained with a deep, intoxicating blush. They stood there, eyes locked, the world fading away. Finally, Mayuri gathered her courage, gazing up at him with eyes bright and a little wet.
Shuo couldn't hold back any longer. He leaned down, slowly, giving her every chance to pull away. Mayuri's face went even redder, but she closed her eyes and tilted her lips up to meet his.
Their kiss was soft, lingering—sweet and innocent, but full of promise.
When they finally parted, Shuo gently stroked her flushed cheek. Mayuri caught her breath, eyes sparkling with happiness and a touch of exhaustion.
"You big jerk… you still haven't said you like me."
Shuo grinned, not missing a beat. "I like you. I like Mayuri. I super like Mayuri. I super, super, super like Mayuri!"
"Ahhh! Keep your voice down! That's so embarrassing!"
He shrugged, teasing. "If you don't want to hear it, I guess I'll stop."
"No! I want you to say it a few more times…"
"Sure, but you have to go first."
Mayuri pouted, but her eyes were shining. "I'm not lying—I've liked you since the very moment I was born. I like Shuo-kun the most, most, most!"
"Heh, I want to hear more."
Mayuri stared at him, flustered. "You're not playing fair!"
Shuo just smiled, utterly unrepentant. "Come on, come on—I want to hear it again."
"Hmph! You thick-skinned liar, go away!"
He laughed. "I like Mayuri. I like you so much, I want to be with you in every lifetime."
Mayuri's face was on fire, but she managed to glare at him—though it quickly melted into a helpless giggle.
He might be shameless, but every time he said those words, her heart fluttered. No matter how many times she heard it, no matter how silly or embarrassing, she couldn't help but feel happy.
Because, just as she'd said, from the very beginning—from the moment she'd come into this world—she'd fallen for him. And now, not only could she go on dates with him, but she could look forward to a future always by his side.
