"Nina what the hell you scared me" I said placing my hands on my chest which was still rapidly pounding.
"Jessica! Where the hell have you been, I thought you were dead" Nina said hitting me on my arm
"How did you get past those security men they checked this place severally" I said putting down the bottle of champagne I would have used to cash her head.
"I was the best agent the CIA had, those suckers couldn't find me even if they tried" Nina said walking with me Into the kitchen.
"Nina...." I started but she placed a hand in front of me stopping me
"Where the hell were you I thought something terrible happened to you, I texted I called you weren't responding" Nina said and I rolled my eyes
"I leave for one day and you assume the worst " I said taking a sip of my wine"you need to chill"
Nina glared at me clearly furious and she grabbed the glass of wine and tossed the contents I to the sink.
"Hey!" I yelled in protest
"I know ur dad is back Jessica so please spare me the bullshit"
"How did you..."
"Best CIA agent remember " she said abd suddenly she grabbed my ear holding it how a mother would hold her child's during scolding.
"Ow Nina you are hurting me" I whined
"That's exactly what I want, do you know what stress I had to go through to get that information " she said
"I am so sorry Nina " I said nursing the ear she let go off which I am sure is currently bright red.
"That's not what you should be sorry about i want you to tell me everything right now and don't you even dare try to lie to me Jessica " Nina said grabbing my hand and attempting to drag me to the living room making the limp in my leg evident because I couldn't move as fast.
Nina's eyes widened and she slowed down and we both plopped down to the couch and she quickly began to assess my body for God knows what.
"Are you okay are you hurt?" She asked with concern.
Nina had to fill in for me after my mom had died in that horrible way, she took care of me through my depression and helped me break free from Francis Backlay with the ultimate recenge (which may have cost me my life but I am still grateful regardless).
A genuine smile formed on my face at her concern and I reached for her hands " I am okay Nina really don't worry about me"
"God when I saw that article about the shoot out at the outskirts of town I disregarded ut, I thought to myself that there is no way Francis would have been able to do something that loud and might I also add stupid but I guess we learn everyday" she said.
"Which article are you talking about?" I asked
Damien said he handled the media all the article about that shoot out was pulled down the last thing I needed was everyone knowing that my dad had suddenly appeared making me a walking target. Again.
"There were already written articles ready to go national actually but the Castillo group called and they all pulled it down" she said a frown formed on her face as she peered at me.
"Wasn't that Damien's car outside the house, his men were here right?" She asked and I nodded.
"What?!"
"He was with me when it happened " I said quickly as if almost defensively.
"Why was he ... Jessica Duboi Backlay you better tell me everything that happened right this instant" she said har gaze threatening.
So I did I told her everything. Well not everything but what she needed to know at the moment, I did tell her about brad the commissioner, the details of the shoot out and the attempted assassination. Though I left out the part that Damien was the one who rescued me and patched me up that was probably for the best.
As I spoke Nina didn't say a word she just nodded her head in understanding not showing any sign of shock or suprise.
Nina is a huge crier which means that anytime something happened even the tiniest thing she bawled her eyes for it, but when those tears didn't come it usually meant something bad. It means she was furious and I think she is right now.
"Jessica..." She started placing her thumb and her index finger between the bridge of her nose pinching.
"I know I know Nina I should have told you sooner..."
"You are damn right you should have, I would have helped you know I would instead you walked into two life threatening situations without informing me" she said standing up from the couch and pacing furiously.
"I know you are mad..."
"Oh you have no idea how furious I am, I am more furious than I have been in my entire life" she said
"I understand that and I am sorry, I just didn't want you to be worried"
"Jessica," she satback down in the couch holding my hands "I promised your mom that I would keep you safe, that I will protect you even if that's the last thing I do, it is my job to be worried, don't ever do something stupid like this again " she said I could see a lone tear lodged at the corner of her eyes
"I won't okay, I promise " I said abd she folded her arms around her body.
"Good," she replied clearing her throat "now let's talk about the way forward"
"You said you have reasons to suspect that the commissioner and your father are working together "
"Yes, I have known Francis Backlay my whole life, he is not foolish enough to do something this loud" I said and Nina noded in agreement
"That's what I thought too"
"This was done by someone less cunning, someone way more volatile, someone with more power not a wanted fugitive " I stated.
"Still can't believe that what you guys had wasn't real" Nina said with a pout
"Brad was obviously toxic, You are attracted to toxic men" I said
"I guess that's why I can't keep a marriage " she joked and I chuckled.
"Well I broke up with his son and blackmailed him using his cunt daughter so now he has a vendetta " I said
"What if it isn't the conswinks?" She said and I considered this with a frown
"What do you mean?" I asked
"You are possession of one of the deadliest file in human history, though anonymously you have used it a couple of times for couple of powerful men, it won't be a suprise that one of them wants you dead" Nina said
"That makes sense, but when I was almost assassinated it was a more direct message from the person who sent that killer and it happened around his mansion when I checked all the cameras from two miles away were disabled " I said.
"I have a sudden urge to have a drink " she said makiyme giggle
"Me too " I said
"We would figure this out together" Nina said squeezing my hand.
"I know" I replied leaning into her.
"Are you sure there are nommore secrets?" She asked.
I considered this for a moment. Of course there were still a lot of secrets but which one was to come to light right now
"I started seeing things again" I said
