Chapter 18 - The Festival begins.

Two weeks.

The two weeks flew by. Between training, continuing to adapt to this new life, and trying to awaken a second Quirk, I didn't notice how quickly time passed.

But here I am, in the locker room we were given until the Festival officially begins.

Some are chatting to calm their nerves, others are stretching, Bakugo... is doing what Bakugo usually does, and I'm impatiently tapping the floor.

Because this is exciting!

This is the only arc where I won't be facing villains in one way or another.

It will just be me facing the rest of the first-years.

Something that doesn't involve the possibility of dying in the process!

I'm going to enjoy it, like you can't even imagine.

"Midoriya."

Who has the audacity to interrupt my thoughts?

"Yes?... Ah, Todoroki, it's you. Do you need something?"

What was happening here? Ah, right, he's going to tell me he's stronger and all that.

"Objectively speaking, you are superior to me."

What? I didn't expect this. My actions have reached Todoroki more than I originally thought.

"You shouldn't be surprised."

Is it that obvious on my face?

"But that doesn't mean I'm going to let you win. I will destroy you, Midoriya."

" Just wait until the fights come; I'll leave all these people with their mouths wide open.

Uraraka is making herself float. Didn't she achieve that after the summer camp? Maybe my abrupt and constant improvement made them work harder than inWhoa, buddy, calm down. We didn't come here to fight each other," Kirishima interrupted, placing the canon.

Iida has just reached the third obstacle. Not bad, but his speed doesn't compare to Ingen a hand on Todoroki's shoulder.

Isn't that wrong? We came to this tournament to beat each other upium's. The videos I've seen of him make Iida look like a joke.

Shinso is being until only one is left.

"I don't care. I didn't come here to make friends." escorted by the students he controls. It will be fun to show him how pathetic he is for despising his Quirk but still

Todoroki... If only you knew that today you're going to be evangelized by my fists, you wouldn' depending on it.

And Momo is the simplest of them all. She has the most versatile Quirk in the worldt be saying that.

Well, the time has come for what every self-respecting protagonist must do.

The moment for the epic and motivational speech.

With all the grace of a fighter and the mastery of a veteran, I stood and has simply created some skates for her feet and is passing the second test as if she had no Quirk.

What kind of joke is that? Why not do something more elaborate, like a grappling hook to cross Batman-style?

up.

"Hey, Todoroki." Hearing me speak, he turned to look at me. "I don'tI think her insecurities don't allow her to think outside the box.

Lucky for her, Todoroki will work plan on losing. I've trained harder than anyone for this day, I have expectations to meet, and above all else... Mom is watching this tournament at home."

Upon hearing that last part of my speech, the whole class looked at me strangely.

"What? Don't tell me you guys don't want to make your mothers proud?" his magic and get rid of them.

Undoubtedly, Bakugo's explosions are the most interesting.

They are quite compressed, very different from how he used them in the Quirk assessment test.

It seems he's

"Is this a joke to you?" Todoroki asked me angrily.

"A joke? No, this is an I improving faster than in the canon.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the internships, he already has the "AP Shot" in his arsenal.

Things are changing in a slight but noticeable way. Too bad thingssekai, but you were close, Todoroki. I'll give you points for that."

Knowing that our like the Hosu attack are out of my reach.

Anyway, they're not the only ones who have improved.

I am light-years ahead of them right now.

And they haven't even seen Blackwhip. It was a unanimous decision between Gran Torino, Toshinori, and me that the Whips would be hidden.

The entrance to the tournament was just moments away, I started walking towards the exit door.

"I don't plan on being nice to any of you," I commented as I gave all my classmates a look. "If you dare to hold back against me, I will humiliate you on an international level."

And with that, I left the room.

Everything was perfectly less information All For One has about my gifts, the better.

But it doesn't matter. For today, I' timed, because the exit alarm sounded instantly.

So I was one of the first to exit through the tunnel, with my class behind me and Present Mic giving a top-notch narration.

I'm getting better at this protagonist thing every day.m not going to think about All For One and what he represents.

Today, I'll just think about how fun it is to beat all these students who think they have a chance of taking first place.

Just for today.

Present Mic began to mention the rest of the first-year courses as we got into proper formation.

And I must say, I had forgotten the immense number of courses this elitist school has.

From the hero course to the business one, they run the whole empire.

That makes me think that one day I should play Monopoly with Nezu; it would be fun.

But even with the whole empire in their favor, they can't afford good, top-notch security.

No, first let the heir to one of the world's greatest powers leave UA and let Jaku City go to hell, of course. Thinking straight, that's what they do.

"I will be your referee!" Oh man, seeing Midnight gives me years of life. Too bad she dies. Maybe I can prevent it? I don't remember exactly when she died in the Jaku battle, so I'll pray that the small but important changes I'm making will allow her to live.

"And to kick off this festival! Katsuki Bakugo from Class 1-A will give the motivational speech!"

Motivational speech? First, it's not a speech; it's just a few words, no more than three lines. Second, he's not polite enough to take his hands out of his pockets while getting on the podium, an immense sign of disrespect.

But at least he was honest. He said what he wanted to say and left. No politician has the balls to do that.

"I promise... I'm going to be number one."

And there it is, but there's a change. He's not looking at everyone, nor at how they're booing him. No, he's looking specifically at me.

Now, I would tell him that I'm not gay or something similar.

But this is more than that. He is recognizing me as a rival. Not that I really care; I only seek the recognition of Gran Torino, because I respect him more than anything.

But the fact that he's looking at me means that slowly but surely, my words have been getting through to him. I think that by the time all the pressure Bakugo has accumulated explodes, I'll be able to reach a tacit agreement with him without much trouble.

"What a great speech!" Seriously, Midnight?

While I watched the first game being chosen by the roulette wheel, I started to think about what I'll do once this Festival is over.

I can do an internship with Gran Torino, go to Hosu, and save Iida from a stupid death.

Or I can try something new. Maybe get an internship with someone from the top ranks? That wouldn't be bad.

Edgeshot is a hero that catches my attention. Since I arrived in this world and caught up with the heroic trends, I noticed how Edgeshot maintained a stable balance between fameThen I'll act regarding the real threat.

...

Author's Note:

Hey.

How did you like the start of the Sports Festival?

I didn't really plan on covering only the first part of the Festival.

I was thinking of covering the entire cavalry battle as well.

But I thought that even though the protagonist is quite powerful and has no trouble finishing the obstacle course, I didn't want to make it too simple. So I extended it so it wouldn't look like filler.

One chapter per game until we get to the tournament seems optimal to me.

With the protagonist at his current level, this Festival isn't very difficult for him, and I'm not going to nerf him just to represent an incoherent challenge or something like that.

When he has real challenges, I'll write them (like the U.S.J. and his battle against Shigaraki), and when he has easy challenges, I'll treat them as such, as simple challenges.

I'll try to bring the next chapter out tomorrow, so I can wrap up the Sports Festival quickly. It's an arc I quite like, but it's the only one that won't have changes from the canon, except, of course, for the final battle.

See you.
