Chapter 28 - Back to UA.

Arriving home after the internships sounded incredible at first.

Just arriving, greeting Inko, and telling her in detail what I learned with Gran Torino.

Or so it was until I opened the door and a furious Inko greeted me with a long speech about my irresponsible actions.

Only to then receive a hug for how proud she was to see that I had saved so many people.

It was a good welcome, overall.

Everything had gone well. The internships ended on Friday, so I was able to take advantage of the entire weekend to train and increase my mastery over One For All, which was a great success.

The 32% margin wasn't difficult to surpass. Since the moment I broke the barrier between 20% and 30%, it has been relatively easy to improve.

The percentage of One For All works in a really strange and curious way. At one point, it becomes extremely complicated to improve, and at others, I just need a week at most to increase my control.

Maybe it's because the numbers are just a reference and not an exact figure of the power I'm using, or it's something related to the union between my soul and that of the original wielder of this body.

But I highly doubt it's the latter; after all, the union of souls was something spiritual, not physical.

Anyway, it makes no sense to dwell too much on something that has benefited me more than it has harmed me.

"Hey Mom! I'm off to UA!" Waving goodbye to Inko, I started my way to the academy again.

Walking through Musutafu to the train station is something... it's strange to be greeted by every citizen who passes by me or to see them photographing me from across the street. It's quite weird.

I tightened my backpack a little more and activated One For All at 2% in my legs to be able to walk faster.

I know it's illegal to use my Quirk without a license, but if no one finds out, then there's no crime.....

I did it! After having the most uncomfortable train ride of my entire life!... Second life! I arrived at UA!

Being popular is horrible. When I won the Festival, it was unique... or at least it was until a week ago.

It turns out that no celebrity did anything important for people to forget about me, so I'm still a trend for people.

Not to the point of being uncomfortable, but it's strange being greeted by every citizen who passes by me or seeing them photograph me from across the street.

My actions even have me getting asked for pictures, and some have even tried to have a pleasant conversation with me.

I'm not against receiving thanks from people or things like that, but I'm not comfortable with it either. Maybe I should reconsider the idea of a full mask for my hero costume.

I crossed the UA entrance and could finally breathe in peace. I still had curious glances from the students, but they quickly went back to their own business. I'm a first-year, after all. Famous or not, they have more important things to do with their lives.

Too bad they don't know my role as the protagonist in this world. Today they see me as one of the crowd, but one day they will see me as the Number One, and if that's not possible... the closest thing to it... No, I will definitely be number one... Only the complacent accept being second best.

After all, second place is the first place for the loser.

"Hey, kid! Wait a moment!" A shout from behind me makes me turn my head slightly to see what's happening.

And I definitely didn't expect to see Mirio Togata of all people.

Could it be that I'll finally have my long-awaited fight with the boy whose Quirk is a nerfed "Kamui"?

"Yes? Do you need something?"

Gotta play dumb.

"Wait! You're Mirio Togata! I saw you at the second-year Sports Festival! You were amazing!"

I took the trouble to watch clips of the last five years of UA Sports Festivals.

There are many students and alumni who had unique strategies for using their Quirks, so I decided I could draw inspiration from them to improve my skills or create new techniques.

And among those students were, of course, the current "Big Three of UA." Mirio was the one who caught my attention the most of the three.

His first Festival was a failure in every sense of the word, but his second Festival was incredible. He found a way to use his Quirk and managed to get second place.

I came to the conclusion that Sir Nighteye took Mirio as a student at the beginning of his second year or after the first Sports Festival, because the difference in skill is clear.

"Yes, that's me! Mirio Togata! And you're Izuku Midoriya!" His dramatic attitude, combined with his shouts, made practically everyone look at us.

I want to leave the center of attention, but I end up getting into these situations... The things I do for an entertaining battle.

"That's right, that's me... Could you not shout so much? I don't like being the center of attention." And yet, I transmigrated into the protagonist's body.

"What can you possibly need from me?"

"Right, sorry, I didn't know you were reserved like Tamaki."

Don't go that far, Mirio.

"I just wanted to meet the first-year kid who became a celebrity during his first internships." Giving him a nod, I started walking towards my classroom again. "Your actions were praiseworthy. You handled the situation very well and knew how to keep the masses safe. You have a lot of potential!"

I know where this is going... and I don't mind.

"Hey, Mirio."

"Yes?"

"If you want to have a friendly match with me, you just have to ask." Seeing that we were already close to the classroom, I let out an excited smile. "Reserve a gym for training, and I'll gladly give you the best fight you could ask for."

If I was excited about this... he was receiving God's grace.

Because I've never seen so much excitement on a person's face.

"Perfect! I like you, Midoriya! Go to the Gamma gym once your heroics tests are over!"

And without a second glance, he left... literally, he left through... Did he forget that his clothes don't go with him?

Well, apart from that last thing, this couldn't have gone better. Facing Mirio is a direct pass to improving like never before. His Quirk is super versatile if you know how to use it, and Mirio definitely knows how.

Once I entered the hero course, the sight that greeted me was Bakugo, with the most refined hairstyle possible... I had forgotten that happened.

"Hey Bakugo, nice haircut. Who did it for you? Your husband?" My question caused Kirishima's and Sero's laughter to increase in intensity, and I don't blame them. Bakugo looks out of place with that style.

"Go to hell, Deku!" In vain, he tried to return his hair to its natural state.

"Don't worry, Bakugo, I'm just joking with you, unlike the person who did your hair. That guy was definitely serious about you." Passing by his side, I gave him a few light pats on the shoulder.

"Kirishima, you have pictures of this, right?"

"Of course, this is unforgettable."

"I agree with you."

I was going to comment a bit more on Best Jeanist's sad attempt to give Bakugo some formality, but I noticed Iida making signs for me to follow him out of the classroom.

Guided by my curiosity, I followed him to see what he had to say, without noticing the grateful look Uraraka had on me.

"What's up, Iida?" I don't remember any conversation after the internships. There was just a small test given by All Might where Izuku showed off "Full Cowling."

"I just wanted to thank you and apologize," Iida replied seriously. "If it weren't for you, I would have died trying to stop Stain... And your words, despite being inappropriate, had their truth."

So that's what it was about. Now that I remember, I didn't talk to Iida again in the alley... It makes sense.

"No problem. What you did was stupid, but don't beat yourself up. Learn from it and be a better person." Just like with Bakugo, I gave him a few pats on the shoulder and turned to go back to the classroom. "We all make mistakes, and it's not about them; it's about how we face them and improve from that confrontation."

"Big words coming from the kid who's always looking for a fight," Aizawa suddenly appeared behind us, pushing us back into the classroom and sending Iida to his seat, but leaving me at the front with him.

Incredibly, everyone was in their places by the time we entered.

Aizawa has trained them well... very well.

"Alright, before we start the class, I want all of you to listen to what your classmate has to say."

Say? What do I have to say? This wasn't in the script.

"Your questions about his Quirk 'Evolution' can wait for another time. For now, he'll just clarify what it is in the first place."

So that's what it was. They should have told me I had to explain that.

"Alright, there's not much to say, really. You've all probably noticed how my body is surrounded by electricity when I activate my Quirk, right?" My words were met with several nods. "That electricity is the excess energy that I don't use and therefore is wasted. During my internships, I focused completely on gaining control over my Quirk, and thanks to that, I'm able to give shape to that wasted power." It wasn't too difficult to come up with a lie for my power. Between my knowledge of the manga and Gran Torino's ideas, we came up with a plausible lie. "The reason why it materializes in the form of Whips is even simpler still."

I saw that I had everyone's attention, and when I say everyone, I mean literally everyone.

Even Aizawa, although he pretends to be uninterested.

"The reason is that... it's easier."

Silence flooded the classroom for a moment at my words, and when they were fully absorbed by the young minds of my classmates... the silence was broken.

"WHAT KIND OF SHITTY EXCUSE IS THAT, DEKU!"

"DON'T SHOUT LIKE THAT, BAKUGO!"

"YOU'RE SHOUTING TOO, IIDA!"

Everyone was shouting, but Bakugo, Iida, and Uraraka stood out the most.

(Typical of teenagers. Who understands them?... Although I'm a teenager too. Does that mean I'm insulting myself?... Nah, I'm unbearable at times too.)

It was necessary for Aizawa to activate his Quirk and half-suffocate half the class with his super-resistant scarves made of carbon fiber and other alloys I don't remember to get them to be quiet.

"If you're done with your show on how to confuse a deaf person, I'll continue..." I waited until someone said something, but since there was only silence, I resumed speaking. "Do you know what it takes to give shape to the materialization of my own energy born from the little control I have over my power? Materializing and giving shape to something is not simple. Ask Yaoyorozu; she'll understand me. Giving it the shape of a Whip is simple and practical, as I don't have to be constantly concentrating on it."

My answer managed to calm most of them, and those who still had complaints only needed to look at Aizawa for a moment.

(These excuses work on them, but All For One must already know the truth... What a problem.)

"Alright, thank you for your informative explanation, Midoriya. Now go back to your seat."

Hearing Aizawa use sarcasm is epic.

"You should use it more often..."

"To your seat."

"As you command, boss."

...

The rest of the day was incredibly simple. We just had explanations about the upcoming final exams and various basic subjects that I didn't pay attention to.

Because I have an incredible power that allows me to memorize anything just by reading it once or twice, so if it's not math or something related to it, I'm not interested.

And in the afternoon, the training with All Might arrived.

Or rather, navigating the fake city and winning a race to demonstrate superiority to your classmates.

"Alright, young ones! I want to see your youth explode!"

It can't be... he said it.

A few days ago, I told All Might that if he wanted to connect with the future young heroes, he should update his vocabulary, and of course, I gave him the best phrases I ever heard from Guy-Sensei... I can't believe he took my teachings seriously.

It's easier to win the race than not to laugh.

"Get in position! The flower of youth only blooms once!"

Pff, hahaha, you're making this difficult, All Might.

(So... Mina and Sero are the ones I have to be careful with. The rest can manage on their own.)

I got into a runner's stance and noticed that the place was full of pipes, as seen in the anime.

(My time has come.)

"Begin!"

Without wasting time, I activated One For All at 15% throughout my body and took a great leap forward.

I could win this race if I used 35%, but that would be too boring, and besides, this time I want to do something different.

I started to fall in a nosedive towards the ground once my momentum ran out.

"This time I won't act as Flashkicker. For this time, I will be... Spider-Man!"

I did a flip in the air and then made the iconic web-slinging pose of my favorite hero.

And a Blackwhip shot out of my wrist, wrapping itself around one of the many industrial pipes in the area, and I began to swing.

Laughter couldn't help but escape my mouth. I was simulating Spider-Man!

"This is the most incredible shit of my short, second life!"

Upon reaching the highest point of my swing, I made the Whip disappear, only to repeat the action again with the next industrial pipe.

"What's up, Sero?! Can't you handle the Neutron Style?!"

Doing a full spin without stopping my swing, I gave a "peace" sign to my tape-wielding classmate.

I saw how surprised he was by my actions, and even more so by the way I was moving through the industrial zone.

His movements are very simple compared to mine, and not because I'm constantly imitating Spider-Man or anything like that.

It's because the shooting angle that Sero has is much more awkward than mine. Using the elbows and not the wrists changes the playing field considerably.

But who cares about all that? I'm the boss in this test, that's what's important.

"When you're ready to present a challenge to me, come find me!"

I already missed returning to the simple and fun UA.

Not like the future camp for kidnapping children... Well, it's Bakugo, it's not that bad...

I continued my movements over the fake city, doing various acrobatics and extreme jumps.

If I had known parkour was this exciting, I would have definitely tried it in my previous life.

Using a Whip from each hand, I simulated an improvised slingshot with which I was launched towards the finish line.

And activating One For All in my legs so as not to damage them, I did a superhero landing.

But remember that it's very bad for the knees, so if you don't have an incredible power like me, don't imitate me.

"Congratulations, Young Midoriya! You have saved me! And your flames of youth burn brighter than ever!"

Maybe it's the adrenaline combined with the excitement of the moment, but my smile equals All Might's.

"Of course it does! Raise that hand and give me five, Japanese Johnny Bravo!"

Not to be outdone, All Might raised his hand, and we high-fived.

Now all that's left is to face Mirio later, and if I'm lucky, meet Tamaki Amajiki and Nejire Hado.

That will be a good fight.

I have no doubt about that...

Author's Note:

Hey.

Well, first of all, I apologize for not updating for a week and a few days now.

I had important things to do, and in general, they were terrible days. I wasn't in the mood to write, so I limited myself to responding to comments.

But I'm back now until they decide to evaluate me or something important happens, whichever comes first.

This story is super supported, and it's very noticeable in the number of views and stars each chapter has. For this, I can only thank you. It's still hard for me to believe that a story started literally out of my desire to break Isekai stereotypes works as it does.

Hey.

Well, first of all, I are not decent or are simply simple and with little originality.

But thanks to you and no one else.

With that said... what did you think of the chapter?

I know I didn't cover the fight with Mirio, but it was either this or not bringing a chapter for another day, and I don't know about you, but the lack of updates was killing me, and I'm the writer.

Besides, I've started a third story about the MCU's Spider-Man, and I want to focus on I'm back until they decide to evaluate me or something important happens, whichever comes first.
