Chapter 3 - Chapter 03 - Akiko

Year 782, Somewhere in Fiore

The battlefield was silent for a heartbeat. Smoke drifted through the broken trees, the aftermath of an unknown beast's rampage still lingering in the air.

"Lisanna!" Mirajane's voice cracked as she staggered forward, her arms raw and trembling from the fight. She could still see her little sister's silhouette through the haze—fragile, swaying, but smiling.

"I'm sorry, Mira-nee…" Lisanna's voice was soft, but steady, as though she already knew.

"It can't be happening!" Mirajane screamed, her chest tightening. "You'll be fine! You have to be fine!" She clawed her way across the broken ground, ignoring the blood dripping from her own wounds.

"Mira-nee… I'm sorry ,I- I guess this is it for me." Lisanna whispered, tears glimmering at the edges of her eyes. "Please make sure Elfman doesnt blame himself, it was not his fault. Tell Natsu… and Elfman and everyone in the guild… I was happy. I was so happy to have you all."

"No! Stop it!" Mirajane's nails dug into the dirt. Her demon soul magic flared instinctively, her aura darkening the air around her. "You're not allowed to say goodbye! You are making me break my promise, Lisanna! I swore that we'd always be together!...then why?...why??"

For the first time, Lisanna's smile wavered. "Then… let's promise again. Even if it takes another world, another life… I'll find you. I still want you to be my elder sister there, Mira-nee."

An odd light swallowed her whole.

"LISANNA!!!" Mirajane's scream tore through the forest, raw enough to shake the earth. She reached out, but the space her sister had stood in was now empty—only some unknown magic residue remained, fading into nothing.

Her knees buckled. The strength in her limbs vanished. She slammed her fists into the ground until her skin split, until blood mixed with the soil, but nothing could fill the hollow inside her chest.

"Give her back…" she whispered, her voice breaking. "Please… someone… anyone… give her back…"

But the world was silent. The prayer was left unanswered.

For now.

Year 782, Kingdom of Bosco (Lunaris City)

The streets of Lunaris were alive with the hum of voices, the clang of metal, and the sweet aroma of fresh bread wafting through the air. Merchants called out their wares—potions that shimmered in glass bottles, blades gleaming with enchantments, and curious trinkets said to hold fragments of magic.

Walking among them was a young man who stood out despite his attempt to blend in. His attire—blue-purple shirt, black cargo pants—drew more than a few curious glances. Draped over his frame was a black cloak that reached just past his knees, swaying faintly with each step.

This young man was Astro Blackmist, seventeen years old. To the people here, just another cloaked traveler. But he knew the truth—three years ago, he had been Liam, a boy from another world. Now, he was a Devil Slayer in a world full of magic.

Yet even with this strength, he felt a strange ache of loneliness. He'd been drifting ever since fleeing Inca. He has no memories of what happened after he got his power. He found himself in a wilderness near Inca royal castle, and decided to flee the kingdom.. Only the faint memory of the Fairy Tail guild he'd once watched from a screen in another life and heard from his father in this life. If he could reach Fiore, if he could find them… perhaps he wouldn't feel so adrift.

But his thoughts snapped when a desperate voice rang out.

"Catch the thief! Somebody stop that brat!"

Astro turned in time to see a child darting through the crowd, clutching a bag tightly. Behind, a middle-aged man stumbled after her, panting.

The crowd parted, pretending not to see. No one wanted the trouble.

Astro sighed. "Guess it's me, then."

In a blur, he moved. The child barely had time to register him before he stuck his foot out, tripping her cleanly. She tumbled, groceries scattering.

The man huffed to a stop, wheezing. "Thank you, traveler. That pest stole my food. I was chasing her for five minutes!"

Astro barely nodded, his eyes flickered for a bit. Something felt… off.

The child, small and wiry, pushed herself up. For a heartbeat she looked dazed—then suddenly leapt, unnaturally agile, aiming a wild kick at Astro's face.

Without flinching, Astro caught her leg. His other hand pressed lightly against her forehead. A faint purple glow shimmered—and the girl crumpled, unconscious.

Astro returned the bag silently. "Where's the nearest guard post? I'll drop her off there."

The man pointed vaguely toward a tall bell tower. "That way. Just down the main road." His eyes lingered on Astro's strength—then quickly darted away. Something like disappointment flickered in his face before he hurried off with his groceries.

Astro frowned. When the man was not paying attention, he made a hand sign under his cloak. A mark appeared on the man's neck, before disappearing like it never existed.

Minutes later, he was carrying the girl on his shoulder through the quieter edges of town. When he was sure no one followed, he ducked into an alley, leapt up onto a rooftop, and laid her gently down.

He placed a glowing palm above her brow. Purple light pulsed softly, and the girl stirred awake.

"W-Where am I?" she murmured, groggy. Her gaze focused on Astro—and she scrambled back instantly, eyes wide with fear.

Astro raised his hands calmly. "Relax. I'm not here to hurt you."

"Liar," she spat. "Are you going to poison me? Sell me off? Cut me open for experiments? Use me for a devil summoning ritual?!"

Astro blinked, startled by the barrage of questions. But one in particular chilled him—the last.

"You…" he narrowed his eyes, studying her face properly for the first time. "You're a girl?"

"Of course I am!" she snapped. "My name's Akiko! And don't think you can trick me. I have friends. They'll come for me. They'll crush you if you try anything!"

Despite her bravado, her voice trembled. Her small fists clenched around the piece of bread Astro offered her. Hunger betrayed her mistrust—because after glaring suspiciously for a long moment, she tore into it like she hadn't eaten in days.

Astro leaned back slightly, his gaze drifting toward the horizon. "Your 'friends,' huh? Yeah… I can already sense them coming."

Three signatures. Closing in fast. Likely sensor-types who'd picked up the mana in the girl's body.

He exhaled slowly. "Tch. I didn't want to get sidetracked. But…" His purple eyes flicked back to Akiko, his mind raced with several theories.

He decided to put it on the back of his mind for now and decided to greet the visitors.

His cloak rippled in the wind as he stood, back turned to Akiko. His senses sharpened. Those three presences were close—

Outside Lunaris,

The bar was dim, smoke curling through the air. Despite the Closed sign on the door, the place was bustling. Hard men and women filled the room, armed to the teeth, their laughter harsh and sharp like breaking glass.

A middle-aged man crept through, bowing low as he approached a shadowed table. His hands trembled as he clutched the recovered 'groceries'.

"You're late, Selmo," came a voice—low, hoarse, carrying a weight that silenced the room.

At the table sat a man cloaked in black, only his pale hands and faintly glowing crimson eyes visible beneath his hood.

Selmo dropped to one knee instantly. "Forgive me, Master Abel. There… There were complications. A kid tried to steal my bag. I retrieved it, of course. Nothing serious."

Abel's lips curled. "Nothing serious?" His voice was soft, almost amused.

"Yes, Master. I swear it."

Abel leaned forward, crimson eyes narrowing. "Then why…" His words cut like a blade. "…why does your body reek of it?"

Selmo paled. "it?"

The bar fell silent. The air itself seemed to tighten.

Abel rose slowly, his figure tall and imposing. "Don't play dumb. I can feel it. A Devil Slayer marked you.."

Selmo's knees gave out. "I didn't know—!"

"Tell me everything," Abel said coldly. "From the moment you left until now. If you value your life."

Selmo trembled, sweat dripping down his face. He opened his mouth to speak what happened—

Abel's grin spread beneath the hood. "So another Devil Slayer wanders into my territory… how amusing."

The curtain falls. A darkness is awaiting to fall into the city of Lunaris, But the citizens were unaware of it, blissfully so…

Astro's Abilities (So Far)

I will show a description of every new ability that he shows or learns.

Hand-to-Hand Combat

Enhanced by his Devil Slayer body, Astro has trained to fight even without magic, using sharp, disciplined strikes.

Sensory

As a Sky Devil Slayer, his senses are far sharper than ordinary mages. He can track movement and scents with uncanny accuracy.

Marking

A rare extension of his senses—Astro can place a "mark" on someone, allowing him to track them from greater distances. The mark fades with time.

Healing & Reversal

His magic can heal wounds and restore vitality. But with a twist of intent, the same power can decay instead of mend. The darker side of this ability remains shrouded in limits… for now.
