"Is anyone there... there... there?" I slithered like a reptile, creeping through the darkness. This place was used as a sacrificial site thousands of years ago; those thrown in here alive have probably long returned to 'dust'.
I was climbing down when my right hand suddenly pressed onto something soft. The walls of the well are made of hard stone, so bumping into something soft startled me, and I quickly withdrew my hand.
The stones were black, and this thing was black too, so I didn't see it at all. I twisted on a glow stick, brought it close for a look, and found it was a large cocoon.
The cocoon, woven from black filaments, adhered to the well wall, blending into the environment. Any moth emerging from such a large cocoon would be at least six feet tall.
Huh?
Thinking about the height, I felt something was off. In fact, with closer inspection, the cocoon had a vaguely human-like contour.
