Julian Fairchild's hand, gripping the basketball, was a bit stiff.
Most of the new students were busy drawing lots, and not many people noticed a girl in a basketball jersey walking out from the right side of the court, her long hair flowing and a black baseball cap pulled low.
Maeve Lane pressed the brim of her cap down, nonchalantly saying, "Long time no see."
Julian Fairchild stared at her for a while, but eventually looked away without saying a word.
The girl seemed accustomed to his attitude, turned around and began talking to Henry Hughes, "You two seem really busy, good thing I only joined one club."
Henry Hughes chuckled and explained, "We're just busy at the start. By junior year, a lot of things have to be handed over. Once that's done, there won't be much left."
"Maybe," Maeve conceded noncommittally. She joined the student council on a whim, preferring to do more liberating things than engage in such social interactions. "These are this year's new students, right?"
