Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Are You Afraid of Me?

The conversation between the two continued.

At the same time, the woman reached into her pocket and took out a bulging White Rabbit candy, handing it to the young man.

The candy wrapper was wrong, too bulging.

The hand was also wrong; a normal person's thumb and fingertips wouldn't have calluses.

Just then, the man took the candy, turned around, and left. The woman stood there for a few seconds before following.

As she passed by her, the woman's pace slowed down, and her breath changed, becoming sharper.

She was becoming suspicious of her.

At this exact moment, Wang Nan and her friends emerged from the restroom, Yi Chichi showing a bright smile.

"Zhouzhou!"

With her cheer, the woman watched her run towards the restroom entrance like a wild horse.

In an instant, the burden on her heart completely lifted.

Just an ordinary person, seems like she was overthinking.

She smiled and shook her head, turned around and left.

Although one must not lose vigilance, being overly suspicious is not good either.

Being too tense isn't sustainable either, one must learn to relax.

"You..."

Hearing her shout Zhouzhou, Wang Nan and her friends watched Yi Chichi running towards them, just about to speak when she interrupted.

"I have something to attend to; I need to leave for a bit."

Showing serious expression, she turned around to follow the woman.

Wang Nan grabbed her wrist, "Where are you going?"

We're about to leave; you can't just run off.

"It's urgent."

Yi Chichi's face showed anxiety, "Don't ask, I'm not sure myself. You can go back first."

Without finishing, she freed herself from Wang Nan's grasp and quickly left.

If she doesn't catch up now, she'll lose the person.

Wang Nan and her friends, watching her hurriedly leave as if chased by a ghost, exchanged glances before speaking, "What is she up to?"

"No idea, but she did look very anxious."

The three of them pondered this mystery, and after a while, Zhou Qiuyu spoke, "Should we wait for her?"

Wang Nan thought for two seconds, then decisively said, "Let's go meet up with Bai Chen and the others first, and ask for their opinion."

When in doubt, the minority follows the majority.

Minimizing risk, no one suffers.

Yi Chichi had no clue about their thoughts, she carefully followed behind the woman, trailing her through Post and Telecommunication Road, reaching the residential area by the county hospital.

Then, Yi Chichi watched as she entered the alley beside the residential area.

She quickly followed, discovering that the alley was very deep.

At the end of the alley, there was a lush forest.

The woman walked briskly in the alley.

As Yi Chichi pondered whether to keep following, she suddenly stopped, turned, and looked at her.

Yi Chichi, ...damn it, she was indeed discovered.

It was apparent that the man and woman weren't traffickers as judged, but rather had an eighty percent chance of being spies.

"Since you're here, let's have a chat."

Seeing her frozen in place, the woman smiled lightly at her, with a crisp and pleasing voice that was mesmerizing.

But those charming willow eyes seemed as if they were glazed with ice, chilling and cold.

Yi Chichi brushed her hair, looking at the farmhouses on either side of the alley with doors wide open and people moving and talking, then stepped towards her.

The woman watched her approach with a smile, tilting her head, "You understand our conversation."

"Ah."

Since she was discovered, Yi Chichi didn't plan on hiding, she looked directly into the woman's eyes, her voice carrying a certain strange rhythm.

"Let's get to know each other, I'm Du Mingyue, how about you?"

The familiar voice made her momentarily disoriented, "Chen, no, I'm Zhang Yin."

"Zhang Yin, huh? Nice name."

The voice was as gentle as ever, with a deepening rhythm.

She smiled at Zhang Yin's eyes, praising each word, "As beautiful as you are."

Flowers bloomed in her heart, Zhang Yin could not suppress a bright, joyful smile on her face.

"Thank you for the compliment, you're very pretty too."

She even returned the compliment.

The surprise flickered briefly in Yi Chichi's eyes, her lips curving, "This isn't a great place to chat, shall we find somewhere else?"

"Go..."

What she almost said got swallowed, Yi Chichi noted the struggle that flashed in her eyes, slightly lifting her chin to nod towards the woods at the alley's end, "How about there?"

Zhang Yin nodded, then shook her head, uncertain if she should decline, as Yi Chichi pressed harder, "Are you afraid of me?"

"No."

Jokingly, she should be afraid of someone like this.

Zhang Yin chuckled lightly, "It's you who should be afraid of me."

Yi Chichi bent to gaze into her eyes, following with a chuckle, "That's right, I'm the one who should be afraid. I think we can talk, more friends mean more options, right?"

"Okay!"

The voice held a slight tinge of hesitation.

Then the two of them, chatting and laughing, headed toward the woods.

"How long have you been here?"

"Since last year."

"Down to the countryside?"

"No, it's, it's..."

Still a bit away, Yi Chichi squinted slightly, smiling meaningfully, "If it's difficult, just forget it, I'm not insisting to know. I just wanted to make a friend. It's so hard being alone, not even having someone to confide in."

The voice was filled with a sense of loss and weariness from having seen much of life, which made the woman's eyes heat up, a surge of indescribable sourness rising in her chest.

So full it felt like it might overflow.

"Indeed, it's too hard."

She murmured softly.

And at this moment, they reached the woods.

Yi Chichi moved her hand, an embroidery needle with a chilling gleam fell into her fingertips and pierced a spot on Zhang Yin's head with lightning speed.

As the needle entered, Zhang Yin instinctively leaned back, landing right in Yi Chichi's arms.

She awkwardly smiled, catching Yi Chichi's hand, "Sorry, I suddenly had a headache just now."

Yi Chichi, knowing full well what she did, took a deep breath and soothingly comforted, "It's okay, you can lean on me and relax."

"Ming Yue, are you satisfied with your current life?"

"Not satisfied."

This was Yi Chichi's honest answer.

She enjoyed reading period literature, but it didn't mean she wanted to live in that era.

She loved her original world, where she lived a life of comfort from a young age without hardships, only to end up in the 1970s due to an unfortunate stumble over a damned small stone.

Unable to eat well, can't dress well, and still had to toil in the fields, how bitter this life was.

Damn Yi Yong, if he hadn't acted first without informing and applied so quickly, she would've had room to maneuver.

But the notice for educated youth to go to the countryside had already arrived, in such cases, not going to the countryside would mean breaking her leg or getting seriously ill.

Yet the original host's body was too weak, undergoing such an ordeal might just lead to death.

Better to live miserably than to die happily, thus she had no choice but to accept.

But to forcibly express satisfaction with her current life, that's impossible.

Zhang Yin's eyes brightened as she found someone of a similar mind, "I'm not satisfied either."
