Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Renovation

In the evening, Shen Chen returned and nearly thought he had walked into the wrong place upon seeing the scene at Tingling Garden.

Previously, one side of the gate entering the garden was broken, barely able to close, couldn't be locked, and would open with a push. Now, it was replaced with a brown wooden door, the door ring in ancient green, shaped like a butterfly beast face, exuding a vintage elegance. The weeds inside the garden were neatly trimmed, and a pebble path was left in between.

The exterior walls of the side rooms were all painted with red paint. Strangely, although it was painted today, there was no smell at all, the paint hailed as aristocratic, and its price was substantial.

Under the eaves at the door, hung two lanterns with designs of lush green bamboo leaves, very elegant.

The windows were changed from the previous vertical lattice style (a relatively old style where window panes are mostly vertical and fixed, unable to open) to removable windows, which can be divided into two sections, the upper as supported window, and the lower as detachable window, which can be lifted from the bottom up, and the detachable window can be removed.

Wooden railings were also added around the house, and many more furnishings were placed inside the room.

His feelings were complex at this moment, his expression cold and detached.

The addition of several guardrails by the well made Shen Chen feel helplessly amused, afraid he was so clumsy to fall in?

It must be her idea.

Looking at this little garden, it felt unreal.

After washing up, lying on the bed, covered with a silk quilt smelling of sunshine, he suddenly thought of that pretty young girl.

Yesterday she knelt and kowtowed to him just to beg for his forgiveness for her past deeds.

The matter of helping him renovate the room was thought to be just casual talk, after all, even his own grandfather didn't care about him, let alone her.

Closing his eyes, he drifted to sleep.

Days passed by, and soon it was the fifth day of May, the day of the Dragon Boat Festival.

To commemorate the ancient poet Qu Yuan, the Dragon Boat Festival has customs such as eating rice dumplings, racing dragon boats, drinking realgar wine, wearing perfume pouches, and bathing in orchid water.

After breakfast, Li Du used the excuse: Today is Dragon Boat Festival, the day to commemorate Mr. Qu Yuan. I have arranged to go with Ye Mansion's Ah Zhi to watch the dragon boat races, attempting to leave the premises, hoping to escape today's martial arts training!

The National Guardian General glared angrily, and immediately launched into a long speech: "Martial arts cannot be neglected for a single day. Training martial arts is about consistent perseverance. If everyone makes excuses like you, how can Daqing Country have fierce generals? Only with unity among citizens can our nation remain peaceful, as the saying goes, men..."

His father was at it again, never stopping before finishing a sermon that lasts at least as long as it takes for an incense stick to burn.

No wonder his right eyelid was twitching today – the left eyelid signifies wealth, the right eyelid signifies calamity – knew things wouldn't be that simple!

Could only turn his gaze toward the woman beside him.

Sitting there was a peerlessly beautiful voluptuous lady, unmoving but exuding charm.

The lady chose to ignore the pleading gaze cast from someone, tidying her hair with her hand, fortunately, it wasn't messy.

It seemed Liushu Studio was about to launch new products, she had to arrange to go visit with Ye Family.

Originally intended to wait a bit longer, but couldn't resist her son's pitiful expression, never mind.

"General." Her soft and gentle voice, though not loud, successfully interrupted the National Guardian General's lengthy discourse, as the coarse soldier inquired with concern: "Lady, what's wrong?"

"Today is Dragon Boat Festival, Du'er is still young, there's plenty of time ahead, let's continue the training tomorrow." The lady's voice was calm and unwavering.

"Alright, listen to the madam."

"Today is a holiday, don't be too hard on yourself, take a day to relax, you don't even have to attend court, it's a day of rest, and yet you don't let yourself unwind a bit." She carefully advised her husband not to be too hard on himself.

The tall, imposing, burly, and majestic National Guardian General, at this moment, looked like a young man in love for the first time: "Hmm."
