Chapter 12 - Chapter 7: Damn! We've Been Fooled by This Guy

As soon as Hu Meiqiao reached the second floor, she bumped into the idle Wang Youqing.

Seeing that the director, who was supposed to be attending a district meeting today, had arrived unexpectedly, especially with a slightly flustered look, Wang Youqing quickly realized something was amiss.

Could something have gone wrong?

Wang Youqing was a bit worried.

Although he believed Lu Xuan wasn't the type to act recklessly, young people can sometimes act impulsively.

Thinking of this, Wang Youqing dared not delay. As soon as Hu Meiqiao entered the Traditional Chinese Medicine department, he followed suit.

Hu Meiqiao tried to remain calm and casually asked, "Lu, Yuan Na told me the child paid when leaving the Health Center. Did you treat him?"

Lu Xuan didn't think much of it and admitted directly, "Yes, I prescribed some medicine. If everything goes well, the screw in the child's stomach should pass through the small intestine smoothly."

When Lu Xuan said this, even standing in Hu Meiqiao's position, Wang Youqing could feel that the director's breath paused for a moment.

Not just Hu Meiqiao, he felt the same way.

Utterly shocked.

Hu Meiqiao's breathing was somewhat erratic, but she persevered, asking, "Can you tell us what medicine you prescribed?"

"There's nothing that can't be shared; it's not some secret recipe."

Lu Xuan clearly hadn't sensed the problem. He thought the director was just checking up on his first patient's treatment, so he was forthcoming in his response.

"I prescribed some Bone Charcoal Powder and castor oil. The Bone Charcoal Powder is to be fed with porridge, and after eating, a tablespoon of castor oil is to be given."

Bone Charcoal Powder and castor oil?

Hu Meiqiao was familiar with castor oil but had never heard of Bone Charcoal Powder. Trained in Western medicine, she had limited understanding of traditional medicine, so she asked, "What is Bone Charcoal Powder?"

"It's a powder made from grinding animal bones after they're burned."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Alright then!"

Hu Meiqiao finally relaxed. Since it's just Bone Charcoal Powder and castor oil, there was no major issue. These two are no different from food; even if they don't help, they have no side effects, and porridge is even less of a concern.

Regarding Lu Xuan's unauthorized prescription in such an emergency, Hu Meiqiao didn't blame him. She didn't want to dampen his enthusiasm but chose instead to subtly remind him:

"Lu, it's great that you handled such an emergency calmly."

After complimenting him, Hu Meiqiao shifted the conversation: "However, I think sometimes it's good to listen to others here. 'Two heads are better than one'; perhaps we can find better solutions, and it could also better protect us."

Lu Xuan clearly didn't grasp the underlying message and agreed wholeheartedly, "The director is right. I'll definitely pay more attention next time."

Hu Meiqiao rubbed her forehead, feeling a bit exasperated talking to Lu Xuan. He's young and new to the workforce, so subtle hints go unnoticed, but if she's too blunt, she worries it might discourage him. So she held back what she initially intended to say.

Especially seeing Lu Xuan's innocent look, Hu Meiqiao felt even more at a loss for words.

Behind them, Wang Youqing had already understood the director's implication. Seeing that the director was hesitant to speak, he thought it might be more appropriate for him to step in.

Coming from him, it would merely be elder advice to a younger colleague. But if those words came from the director, they would carry a different weight.

However, just as Wang Youqing was about to speak, Hu Meiqiao interrupted him.

"I'm relieved you think that way."

"Old Wang, let's go. Let's not disturb Lu's work."

She then pulled Wang Youqing out of the Traditional Chinese Medicine department.

"Director, why did you..."

In the laboratory, Wang Youqing asked confusedly, "In such cases, we can't set a precedent. This time Lu was lucky and didn't act recklessly, but what about next time? We're just a Health Center. Handling common colds is fine, but conditions requiring surgery are beyond our scope."

Hu Meiqiao looked at him, surprised.

Wang Youqing was known for his leniency towards newcomers at the Health Center. Why today...

Seeing the director's puzzled expression, Wang Youqing explained helplessly, "Director, some matters can be forgiven, but others require strictness. This time, we were lucky Lu just prescribed some non-harmful Bone Charcoal Powder and castor oil. What about next time?

Certain issues must be nipped in the bud, not given a chance to escalate."

After saying this, Wang Youqing looked quite serious.

Hu Meiqiao sighed. She understood Wang Youqing's mindset.

The Health Center had been peaceful in recent years, and everyone was used to this. They didn't want to create trouble for themselves.

Not just Wang Youqing, others thought the same, hoping to retire quietly at the Health Center without any aspirations to go to a major hospital.

Even if given a chance, few would want it.

Used to the slow pace of the Health Center, they feared the fast pace of a major hospital wouldn't suit many.

Lu Xuan was different. He was young and new to the Health Center, eager to prove himself for the opportunity to work at a bigger hospital.

But remembering what she learned at the meeting today, regarding Lu Xuan acting on his own to treat the child who swallowed the screw, she decided to turn a blind eye, not pursuing any responsibility.
