Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Buying Time

Thick smoke filled the shopping area on the first floor.

The smoke detectors on the ceiling sensed the excessive smoke concentration and automatically activated the fire sprinkler heads.

Streams of water quickly formed puddles on the ground.

Near some burning clothes, a human-shaped piece of charcoal lay silently.

Crack.

Suddenly, the human-shaped charcoal trembled slightly, and if one hadn't been staring at it, they might have thought they were seeing things.

The crisp sound of tearing was drowned out by the noisy splashing of water.

Ding dong~

The elevator doors opened, and Peng Qi and the burly man walked out, one after the other.

Looking at the chaotic shopping area, Peng Qi waved his hand, as if trying to disperse the smoke in front of him.

"Where are the people?"

"Should be near the monster."

They talked as they walked towards the explosion site.

After all, the explosion happened in a clothing store, and the impact of the bomb scattered clothes everywhere. With the smoke concealing everything, it was not easy to discern.

"Bo, look." Peng Qi pointed to a piece of charcoal, not very sure.

The burly man called Bo glanced at it, decisively drew the Bone Chopper from his waist, and walked towards the human-shaped charcoal.

Seeing this, Peng Qi instantly realized that was the target.

He quickly turned to stop the burly man, "Hey, Bo, don't. We agreed the head is mine."

Bo was noncommittal but also stopped.

Realizing Bo tacitly agreed, Peng Qi chuckled. However, before he could turn around again, he heard a series of urgent coughs behind him.

"Cough, cough... cough!!"

Lv Bai slowly opened his eyes.

He only felt like he had been squeezed by a hydraulic press, and the pain from several burns on his body seemed insignificant in comparison.

However, despite the dire state, Lv Bai's mind was exceptionally clear.

Upon sensing someone approaching, he instinctively tried to move, but his limbs were as heavy as lead, and his joints seemed glued tightly.

Despite exerting all his strength, all he could produce were grinding sounds.

"Brother, you're really lucky."

Peng Qi squatted beside Lv Bai, and with a tone of amazement said, "You really didn't get blown to bits."

"Cough... If I hadn't dodged in time, I might have ascended to heaven."

Lv Bai looked at the dark ceiling, stubbornly curling his lips into a smile.

Noticing Lv Bai's "relieved" smile, Peng Qi sighed.

While pulling out a spring knife, he chattered, "Well, don't blame me, who told you to come to us. Next time you're in the Death Arena, watch out more."

Lv Bai pondered for two seconds, then shifted the topic, "In the last episode of the story, a general riding a different horse charged into the array, and Clinton was startled, taking a closer look, it was Washington, the notorious culprit. He felt dizzy and thought, 'Oh no, to encounter this plague demon.'

He saw Washington looking radiant, spear in hand, 'You, Great Britain, exiled us here, enduring hardships for years, constantly skirmishing with local savages, scalping countless heads, to earn vast good lands. Now we, the United States, have guns and cannons, would never submit to your England again?

If you want war, then war it shall be. I have a plan so you can't escape and can only die!' After saying that, he rode into battle, and the two armies prepared for a firefight."

Peng Qi: "..."

Bo: "..."

It was unnervingly intriguing.

Although not too clear on what Lv Bai was rambling about, Peng Qi unintentionally wanted to hear more, "Uh, and then?"

Bo spat on the ground and approached carrying the Bone Chopper, "Stop dawdling. I'll do it if you don't."

Peng Qi turned his head and smiled, "Alright, Bo. I know this guy is stalling, but in his state, what danger could he pose."

Lv Bai tilted his head effortlessly, "I don't even know your name yet."

"That, I can't tell you." Peng Qi shrugged.

Lv Bai rubbed his chin, "That's kind of a pity."

Noticing Lv Bai's movement, Bo's face instantly tensed into bulging veins.

Whoosh!

The heavy Bone Chopper, with a swift sound of air being cut, came fiercely towards Lv Bai's head.

A dull thumping sound echoed as the ground was struck with a fist-sized dent.

"If this hit my head, it would definitely leave a nasty bruise."

Lv Bai, who rolled several times on the ground, stood up. Pulling off pieces of charred skin, his smile grew brighter.

Peng Qi couldn't believe his eyes, "How is that possible?!"

After all, in Peng Qi's view, Lv Bai's injuries were not fake.

Bo glanced at him, openly scornful, "Really outdated academic thinking. Don't know why Guo Mi brought someone like you."

"Silver Level abilities don't include such rapid healing!"

Due to the shock, Guo Qi's voice sounded distorted.

"With the evidence right before you, instead of questioning this and that, use your birdbrain to figure out how to resolve him."

Bo's tone was extremely cold, sounding as if he wanted to resolve Guo Qi as well.

Zheng~

Lv Bai picked up the Eight-sided Han Sword, the blade scraping the ground, leaving a mark.

His face maintained a warm smile.

"This person is correct, believe first, then question."

Lv Bai raised the sword, pointing towards Bo, slightly bending his body.

"Even in a game, I might have relaxed too much."

Taking half a step back with his right foot, a massive force erupted from his body.

Like a compressed spring, the person suddenly launched forward.

Bo had been alert since Lv Bai took a stance, but often mere preparation isn't enough to counter what's coming.

A cold glint arrived first!

Bo only had time to raise his Bone Chopper before he was decapitated.

Everything happened too quickly.

Peng Qi had planned to join Bo's side, but just as he tightened his grip on the spring knife, he saw Bo fall.

Terrified, he turned and fled upstairs without hesitation.

Lv Bai glanced up, throwing the Eight-sided Han Sword at Peng Qi.

With extraordinary strength and the sharpness of the Eight-sided Han Sword, it opened Peng Qi's heart.

Lv Bai walked over and pulled the sword from Peng Qi's back.

"I almost ended up finished"

Truthfully speaking, going from a Daoist who believes in science to transforming into a Death Fighter and being forced into these so-called death duels, facing this situation, Lv Bai felt fortunate his resilience was strong enough.

But in this Death Arena, merely accepting reality isn't enough.

"Not sure which master couldn't tolerate such a divergent disciple like me, and actually sent me here, well, forget it..."

Lv Bai muttered halfway, then looked up at the ceiling, "Seems they said there's a companion, named... Guo Mi, right?"
