Chapter 29 - Chapter 28: Infiltration

Lv Bai pressed the brim of his hat down, picked up a broom, and placed it into the push cart, leisurely pushing the cleaning cart towards the research center building.

Wearing an orange and white cleaner's uniform, a mask, and gloves, he didn't need to deliberately look for blind spots along the way; he pushed the cart confidently, moving through the passageway between the tents.

The two soldiers at the entrance of the research center building only gave him a glance, showing no intention of stopping him.

Lv Bai naturally pushed the cleaning cart into the building, passed through the hallway of the lobby, and paused in front of the elevator doors.

It was ten o'clock at night, the warm lighting brightening up the entire lobby. Unfortunately, at this hour, there weren't many people in the research center. The brighter the space, the emptier and more silent it seemed.

The elevator doors opened, and Lv Bai calmly pushed the cart inside, glancing at the surveillance camera in the upper left corner of the elevator before pressing the floor button confidently.

"You did well. Keep it up. When the elevator doors open, there will be two lab personnel on the left side having coffee in the lounge. Ignore them and keep walking. You'll come across a T-shaped corridor next. Go to the end and then turn right," Ah Gu's voice came through the earpiece.

Without changing his expression, Lv Bai slightly nodded, indicating he understood.

Dingdong~

With a pleasant chime, the elevator doors reopened.

"Be careful, someone is about to come out from the laboratory on your left."

Lv Bai leisurely walked out of the elevator, looking like a corporate grunt forced to work overtime, resentful but morally absent.

Sure enough, the laboratory door opened, and a middle-aged man in a lab coat yawned. Seeing Lv Bai, he said, "Hard work, isn't it?"

Lv Bai nodded at the man in acknowledgment, passing by silently, but after a few steps, he suddenly turned his head, "I don't think I've seen you around before."

The man was momentarily stunned, "I probably spend most of my time in the lab, so it's normal you haven't seen me."

"You're the ones really doing the hard work." Lv Bai unconsciously looked at the bald spot on the man's head.

After parting ways with the man, Lv Bai continued on his path without much incident.

Ah Gu, remotely commanding from a tent, always managed to give Lv Bai timely warnings, making one curious as to how he did it all.

If it were some kind of Silver ability, the strength seemed a bit excessive.

"Is it over there?"

Lv Bai stood in a surveillance blind spot, looking at the heavy isolation door not far away.

"Yes, next I'll interfere with the two monitors in the surveillance room, giving you about ten seconds. You must act quickly. Remember the code?"

Lv Bai took a broom from the cleaning cart, walked around the corridor, pretending to pass the laboratory.

"Begin."

As soon as the words were spoken, Lv Bai turned to look at the keypad, quickly tapping on the keys, inputting a sixteen-digit code in less than three seconds.

Bzzt—pop.

The isolation door to the laboratory opened and then shut.

Lv Bai's actions were smooth and practiced, as if he'd rehearsed them countless times.

"Nicely done!" Ah Gu's voice carried a hint of excitement.

"Cleaner? What are you doing here?"

A bespectacled man in his late twenties wearing a white lab coat stared in shock at Lv Bai, who had suddenly entered.

Lv Bai: "..."

He put down the broom, sighed deeply, "You're making things difficult for me."

...

"These lab coats are quite good quality."

Lv Bai tugged twice, looking at the lab technician he'd tied up tightly, expressing satisfaction.

"What do you want? I'm just an assistant, I don't know anything," the lab technician asked cautiously.

"Hmm... let me think about where to start,"

Lv Bai rubbed his chin, suddenly asking, "This lab isn't for vaccine research, is it?"

Although phrased as a question, his tone was quite certain.

The bespectacled lab technician seemed to realize Lv Bai wasn't planning to harm him, so he relaxed slightly.

Returning to his senses, he spoke more coherently, "No, the vaccine research is led by Professor Jiang, and his lab isn't on this floor."

"Aren't you going to say anything?" Lv Bai said softly.

In fact, ever since he had entered the lab, the other end of the earpiece had been silent, with no further sounds.

Ah Gu's voice finally came through, "Yeah, I'm listening, but I suggest you run now; the quick-response team should be downstairs in the research center by now."

"No rush."

Lv Bai remained calm, not even speaking faster, "Have you reached the vaccine lab yet?"

"You figured it out, though a bit slower than I anticipated."

Ah Gu's voice came through the earpiece, sounding slightly distorted, yet the confidence in his voice was palpable.

At this, Lv Bai chuckled lightly, "So you're actually a researcher in the center, aren't you?"

From Ah Gu's perspective, since Lv Bai had given up the chance to escape, he was inclined to chat a bit more.

"Oh? What makes you think that?"

"I had my suspicions, after all, if you were just hiding some gum in the surveillance room and using cameras to understand the building's layout, there would be many blind spots.",

"However, you seem too familiar with the building. Given the strength of a Silver Level ability, it couldn't gather such detailed intel in just a few days.",

"You can't just stick gum on everyone; that would be too disgusting. I'd rather believe you've surveyed it yourself. Without raising suspicion, only a staff member free to access the center could do this.",

"And, there's something you might not have noticed, although medical personnel sanitize daily at the site, the disinfectant smell on you is particularly strong."

Lv Bai had long realized that the initial identity of a Death Fighter is randomly assigned.

Compared to starting as a high school student, the flexibility of a researcher's identity was much higher.

"You're more perceptive than I imagined."

After a few moments of silence, Ah Gu asked with curiosity, "Why did you still follow my plan obediently?"

Lv Bai removed the tiny earpiece, lightly crushing it between his thumb and forefinger.

After that, he smiled innocently, with a hint of mockery, "Your plan?"

On the fifth floor of the research center, in a lab filled with test tubes, the white curtain was lifted, and Zhou Zongming grumbled, moving his body out of a cluttered storage room filled with medical equipment, glaring at Ah Gu who had broken in late at night.

"Ridiculous, I actually believed that kid and hid here for half the day. And the bastard wasn't even lying."
