Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Scouting the Area

Evil Wolf Gang.

After Gou Dai returned, he applied Golden Sore Medicine and bandaged his wounds. He finally managed to stop the bleeding and save his life.

However, his legs still ached fiercely, and he lay on the bed groaning.

Several maidservants knelt beside him, not daring to breathe loudly.

This Young Master had just flown into a rage, and the ground was littered with broken porcelain cups he had smashed. No one dared to speak, fearing his wrath.

"Why hasn't Protector Li arrived yet? Send someone to urge him again!"

Gou Dai slapped the bedside hard and shouted.

At that moment, a tall and thin man pushed the door open and entered. He was none other than Li Tao, one of the Evil Wolf Gang's two Protectors known as 'Hua Bao.'

Li Tao appeared to be in his thirties, with a face full of pockmarks and a sullen look in his eyes. Seeing the groaning Gou Dai on the bed, he frowned and said, "Young Master, calm down and take care of your health."

"Protector Li, I want you to kill someone for me!"

Gou Dai said through gritted teeth with hatred.

"Who?"

Li Tao asked.

Actually, he felt some resistance in his heart.

A month ago, the Evil Wolf Gang's strategist Old Chai was killed, and the murderer was never found.

In Changze County, there were only a handful of Ninth Grade individuals. After discussions, the Gang Leader and others surmised that the Black Water Gang was the most likely culprit.

So, during this period, the Evil Wolf Gang acted with extreme caution, keeping a low profile to avoid causing trouble and inviting disaster.

"Protector Li, you don't have to worry. That Chen Tang has no family or background; he's just a hunter by birth."

Gou Dai continued, "His father had some skills but died in prison. Also, about two months ago, Chen Tang had his tendons cut. Although he moves as usual now, he surely doesn't dare exert himself, essentially a cripple."

"This time, I suffered a big loss, entirely unexpected. Who knew those two beasts would suddenly disobey and go berserk! Damn it, don't know if they're in heat!"

Li Tao pondered silently.

If it was only about Chen Tang, it wouldn't be a big deal; killing him wouldn't cause much trouble.

"Protector Li, I called you because I trust your abilities. I can't rest easy leaving this to another gang member."

Gou Dai said, "Protector Li, you must help me vent this anger!"

"Okay."

Li Tao nodded and said, "Rest assured, Young Master, I will handle this for you. You can recover at home and wait for the good news."

Gou Dai clenched his fist, saying, "I'm not a gentleman, I can't wait ten years. I want revenge today, for him to die soon! Protector Li, go kill him now. I can't wait even a moment!"

Li Tao shook his head inwardly.

The Gang Leader's son was still too inexperienced.

This level of shrewdness, lacking in patience and tolerance.

"Young Master, please calm down."

Li Tao said in a hushed tone, "It is daytime now, and the streets are bustling with people and eyes. If I go now, I might kill him, but people will see it, giving others leverage against us."

"The Gang Leader has been reminding us to act discreetly and cautiously, to avoid trouble."

Gou Dai asked, "Then what do you suggest?"

Li Tao replied, "Rest assured, Young Master. I'll go tonight, under the cover of darkness, and kill him without anyone knowing."

"Good!"

Gou Dai was overjoyed, as if already envisioning Chen Tang's grim fate tonight. He said, "Do it cleanly. I'll wait for your good news!"

Li Tao nodded and exited the room.

Soon, he planned to scout around Chen Tang's residence to observe and find the right opportunity to act.

...

Chen Tang returned home and stared blankly at the flames burning in the stove, lost in thought.

Soon, the chubby old man and Qingmu also returned.

Chen Tang snapped back to reality and greeted the two.

The chubby old man wore an expressionless face and said nothing as he entered the inner room.

Qingmu saw that Chen Tang seemed at ease, so she smiled and entered the room as well.

"What's up with those two?"

Chen Tang was puzzled.

It seemed that, suddenly, the two had a complete change in attitude towards him.

The chubby old man no longer had his jovial demeanor.

Although Qingmu smiled at him, it felt more like a perfunctory gesture, appearing very cold.

Chen Tang shrugged it off, not bothering too much.

...

"Master, when are we going to act?"

"At night. There are too many people during the day, making it inconvenient to leave with someone. We'll act at night and leave under the cover of darkness."

"Master, might he have the same idea? Maybe he's also planning to wait until night to rescue someone?"

"Could be?"

The chubby old man was a bit uncertain after Qingmu mentioned it.

After all, the coldness and calmness Chen Tang showed just now didn't seem like he was going to rescue anyone.

The phrase 'everyone has their fate, let it be' clearly indicated he had no intention of intervening.

Could he have been pretending?

The chubby old man shook his head.

Probably not.

If he were pretending, wouldn't he have fooled even a veteran like me?

The chubby old man still trusted his judgment.

A teenager who had just arrived in town, inexperienced, couldn't possibly have such deep thoughts.

If he did, he wouldn't have fought passionately in public before.

"Master, how should we deal with those two men?" Qingmu asked again.

"Naturally, we kill them."

The chubby old man said flatly, "They don't treat the girl as human, so I won't treat them as human."

Qingmu wasn't surprised by this.

The chubby old man usually wore a smiling face, looking amiable, but in truth, had a very peculiar temperament, not bound by etiquette and quite willful.

In his eyes, despite different backgrounds, people were equally valued, and no one should look down on anyone else, as everyone had only one life.

Though they were teacher and disciple in name.

The chubby old man never allowed her to kneel and bow, and there was no hierarchy between them.

So their relationship was like that of old friends, without barriers.

He even once told her, "I have no kindness to you, and you don't have to repay me in the future."

The reason for teaching her was, one, he appreciated her pure nature and decent talent; and two, with her noble background, she might be able to benefit many in the future.

They stayed in the inner room until dusk, as the sky darkened.

"Master, it seems someone is scouting around here," Qingmu suddenly said.

"Hmm."

The chubby old man replied, "They've been here for a while, lingering around. They seem to be scouting, probably after him."

Just then, Chen Tang, who had been quietly sitting outside, suddenly got up and went out the door.

Qingmu felt a stir and said, "Master, could he be…"

The chubby old man looked expectant and said, "Let's follow and see."

Chen Tang left home and walked along the street.

From the direction he was heading, it was opposite to the young girl's home.

The chubby old man and Qingmu exchanged glances and shook their heads.

It seemed they had guessed wrong.

Just then, a tall and thin figure secretly followed, trailing behind Chen Tang.

Qingmu said, "Let's go and take a look too; there's no rush. It's still early for action."

At this time, it was evening, and there were still quite a few pedestrians on the street.

The chubby old man hesitated but nodded.

So, four people, one ahead, one in the middle, two behind, strolled aimlessly down the street.
