Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Harvest

Rogel listened to their conversation on the side, feeling a bit sentimental.

But his rather whimsical thoughts couldn't help but wander to another matter.

'Old man, even if your granddaughter agrees to sail with me now, I can't leave yet. I haven't even saved enough money to buy the ship…'

Rogel muttered in his heart.

To be honest, he hadn't really planned on definitely taking Lina on board.

After all, if Rogel were in her place, having only a grandfather alone on the island, he too would be very hesitant.

But such matters are for them to decide themselves.

Thinking of this, Rogel said something to the two of them.

Then he headed toward the town, intending to find Felik to continue today's artisan lessons.

While hurrying, he was also taking stock of today's gains.

[Horror Demon Sharp Claw]

[Type: Weapon·Extraordinary]

[Quality: Blue]

[Attack Power: 15]

[Usage Requirements: Body 4, Spirit 5.]

[Special Effect: Each time it inflicts damage on an enemy, it increases their chance of falling into a fear state, with a 10% chance of killing an enemy already in fear instantly.]

[Negative Effect: After using the claw, the owner will hear the wailing of the Horror Demon in their sleep.]

[Explanation: The claw of the Gatekeeper Horror Demon, extremely sharp, yet seemingly harboring the resentment of the Horror Demon.]

Unexpectedly, it turned out to be a fully-formed blue equipment.

Rogel was somewhat happy; he initially thought it would be a material.

However, this equipment had a negative effect too, though he wasn't sure about its specific effect.

After taking out the Horror Demon Sharp Claw, Rogel looked it over.

The Horror Demon Sharp Claw resembles a pale leather glove, with sharp and slightly curved claw tips at the fingertips.

After equipping it, the game character put on the glove.

Suddenly, the Horror Demon Sharp Claw quickly fused with the game character's wrist, becoming one.

Before long, the Horror Demon Sharp Claw seemed to become a part of the game character's body.

The game character tried swinging the claw; it felt quite nice.

Then he began to inspect the other items.

[Horror Demon's Vocal Cords]

[Type: Material·Extraordinary]

[Explanation: The vocal cords of the Horror Demon, perhaps useful in crafting a special item.]

[Demon Ghost Condensed Oil]

[Type: Material·Extraordinary]

[Explanation: Condensed oil from demon ghost-type monsters, essential for making some potions or magic potions.]

[Bloodstained Map Fragment]

[Type: Special Artifact]

[Explanation: Its owner unfortunately fell into the mouth of the Horror Demon, though its damage is unrelated to that.]

[Harmony Cave Key]

[Type: Special Artifact]

[Explanation: This key is crucial for teleporting to Harmony Cave and opening the stone gate.]

Besides that, there were six gold coins, much more than Rogel had previously saved.

After taking stock of the gains, a smile appeared on Rogel's face.

It's always from fighting monsters that you get more drops.

"Oh right, there are also four free attribute points left."

[Title: Rogel]

[Level: 3]

[Body: 8+]

[Spirit: 8+]

[Faith: 8+]

[Tier: Extraordinary]

[Special Skills: Knowledge Comprehension Lv1+, Fog Flash Lv1+.]

[Life Skills: Fishing Lv6+, Sailing Lv1+, Mysticism Lv1+, Cooking Lv1+, Swimming Lv1+…]

[Talent: Fishing Master, Hei's Soul, Mystic.]

Upon opening his character panel, three attributes and skills had a faint little plus sign next to them, meaning Rogel could freely assign attributes.

"So you can actually use them to level up skills?"

Rogel was a bit surprised.

He thought free attribute points could only be used to increase attributes, not expecting they could directly level up skills too.

However, they seemed to have no effect on talents.

It seems talents only improve when tiers are elevated.

But this is not something Rogel needs to consider right now.

"I can rule out life skills directly; I can level them up slowly myself, the gains are too low. Special skills, on the other hand, are worth considering..."

"Knowledge Comprehension isn't very useful for now, so I'll leave it for later…"

"As for the three attributes… I'll balance the points initially."

"Use the remaining point to upgrade Fog Flash."

After pondering for a while, Rogel made his decision.

One point to Body, one to Spirit, one to Faith, and one more to Fog Flash.

[Please select skill upgrade direction, cost/cooldown/effect]

After upgrading Fog Flash, a new message popped up, asking Rogel to choose the skill improvement direction.

"There's even such a feature…"

Rogel could only say, as expected from a magical game, even having such detailed branches.

Each of these improvement directions has its advantages, but at present, cooldown is definitely the lowest priority.

Firstly, Fog Flash's cooldown is already not slow, usable every few seconds. Secondly, its cost is significant; even if the cooldown is improved, he lacks enough Spirit to support using it.

Therefore, Rogel chose the cost direction.

[Fog Flash Lv2: Consumes 4.5 points of Spirit or Faith, allowing the body to briefly fog and blink a short distance.]

After leveling up the skill, the cost saw a noticeable reduction, now sufficient to use four times consecutively.

[Title: Rogel]

[Level: 3]

[Body: 9]

[Spirit: 9]

[Faith: 9]

[Tier: Extraordinary]

[Special Skills: Knowledge Comprehension Lv1, Fog Flash Lv2.]

[Life Skills: Fishing Lv6, Sailing Lv1, Mysticism Lv1, Cooking Lv1, Swimming Lv1…]

[Talent: Fishing Master, Hei's Soul, Mystic.]

After finishing taking stock of his gains, as usual, Rogel went to Felik's shipyard to begin today's lessons.

[By observing Boatman Felix's work, you gained some learning progress.]

[Current progress: 48/100.]

The learning progress was over halfway; a few more days and Rogel believed he could acquire a new skill.

After ending today's lessons, Rogel didn't immediately return to the dock but headed to the blacksmith shop, also known as the weapon store.

[Mr. Chad, do you take apprentices?]

Rogel asked directly.

Chad was stunned for a moment, then smiled and nodded but reminded him that he charges a fee.

Rogel, of course, had no objections, paid straightforwardly, and set his daily learning time for the night.

Originally, he planned to learn blacksmithing skills only after mastering artisan skills.

But now Lina seemed to have the possibility of boarding the ship.

This made Rogel feel a sense of urgency.

If he doesn't hurry to learn more skills and earn more gold coins, he won't even have the ship to carry the ship medic girl.

He's been sleeping too early in the game lately, time to grind!

"How about mining at midnight to fight monsters in the cave? Game characters probably don't need to sleep, right…"

Rogel rubbed his chin, tempted by this idea.

But then he shook his head.

He didn't know if game characters needed sleep, but he definitely needed it.

If he really followed that schedule, the game world's day might end before his real-world day does.

So it's better to take things slowly.
