Chapter 6 - Chapter 4: Is the Alchemist's Nemesis an Assassin?

The wind and snow grew heavier; the blizzard seemed to have formed completely. The bodies of those who had died earlier were now entirely obscured by the snow, no trace of blood visible.

Baiyi waited silently, not responding, appearing to be deep in thought, seemingly at a loss, very much like a Bronze Alchemist facing an Assassin for the first time.

Clang~

The wind and snow were suddenly torn apart, and behind Baiyi, a blade was less than one meter away from him.

The Warrior in front had a sneer in his eyes; the Alchemist had been engaged in close combat, and death seemed inevitable.

Buzzing~

But in the next moment, the sound of electricity crackling came, and the dagger behind halted abruptly, just thirty centimeters from Baiyi.

Baiyi's face, exposed to the wind and snow, cracked into a carefree smile, snapping his fingers.

Crack~ Boom!

A violent explosion disturbed the wind and snow, sending the powerful Warrior flying backward, smashing fiercely into a large tree.

Baiyi turned leisurely, placing the revolver back in the hem of his clothes, removing the glove from his left hand, and gestured toward the Assassin struggling to break free from the powerful electric net.

Sizzle~

Green gas sprayed from Baiyi's moving hand, directly attaching to the Assassin's body along the path of the explosion's shockwave.

Clang~

Baiyi leaped back, dodging the Assassin's dagger, his smile remaining fixed on his lips.

Buzz buzz...

The sound like wings flapping emerged, as a silver small sphere appeared between the two amidst the wind and snow.

"Bye-bye~"

Baiyi waved his hand.

The silver small sphere exploded with dazzling white light, and endless high temperatures engulfed the moment.

Boom!

A violent roar erupted in the snow, the powerful shockwave whipping up the hem of his coat.

From the moment Baiyi sensed someone lying in ambush, he began preparing. As a scientist in this world without much personal power, Baiyi always took his safety very seriously.

After confirming they were irreconcilable foes, Baiyi would mercilessly turn enemies into the dead.

And chatting with a hostile Alchemist perpetually carrying a large amount of equipment was the most erroneous and final decision these two ever made.

Baiyi turned his head, raised his hand leisurely. Three more metal spheres appeared in front of him.

The one in the middle quickly enlarged, almost instantly forming the structure of a gun.

The other two small spheres transformed as well, attaching to the first sphere. As the firelight faded, Baiyi was already holding a Barrett measuring one meter long.

This is the Energy Gun mentioned by the Quartermaster, the most potent weapon Baiyi could create before breaking through, inspired by the Barrett.

The principle of firing bullets involves utilizing the high temperature and high-pressure gas generated by the combustion of gunpowder to propel the bullet from the barrel.

But in the extraordinary world, the metals Baiyi could refine were much sturdier than those from Blue Star. Upon reaching the Extraordinary Level, replacing gunpowder with more efficient liquid bombs, harnessing the extraordinary might of the Alchemy array, this version of Barrett was dozens of times more powerful than the Barrett from Blue Star.

A Silver Lower Tier Warrior couldn't withstand it!

When the firelight completely dissipated, there was nothing in sight except a crater from the explosion, with no sign of the Assassin.

Baiyi was not surprised, as the advancement to the Grand Tier involved transformation, or perhaps a leap in the life scale. Such an explosion could kill dozens, but not a Transcendent, which was quite normal.

Baiyi turned, gazing at the Warrior who had already stood up, smiling sarcastically, "Look, the area around your eyes has turned purple. Do you still have the strength to charge?"

The Warrior's eyes showed a scarlet hue. He raised the large shield in his hand, gripping the bottom of the shield, letting out a furious roar.

"Roar!"

Scarlet Fighting Spirit burned fiercely on his body, the shield in his hand closely resembling a Giant Axe, and the aura on his body intensified madly.

"Berserker!"

Baiyi's eyes narrowed slightly; Berserker is a profession that pursues extreme attack power. When injured, they would plunge themselves into a frenzy, making the sensation of pain disappear, squeezing more power out of their bodies.

In the battlefield, this profession could transform the surrounding area into a meat grinder in minutes, remaining in peak condition despite severe injuries until death.

The Berserker charged, a special energy attached to his feet, each step faster than the last.

Meanwhile, a sinister feeling of being watched loomed subtly, and he could sense that any movement he made would result in a fatal blow.

Baiyi's smile still unchanged, he unhesitatingly lifted the Barrett in his hand, pulling the trigger instantly.

Boom!

The deafening roar of the gun rendered an area within ten meters around it completely deaf. The special barrel of the Barrett turned scarlet in an instant, the immense heat propelling the alchemy bullet at an amazing speed towards the Berserker.

This gun, Baiyi relinquished all other needs in pursuit of extreme violent aesthetics.

The powerful recoil even pushed Baiyi sliding backward.

The Berserker's pupils contracted slightly, and he unhesitatingly held his war axe in front of him, the deadly sense of crisis swiftly clearing his anger.

Boom!

A massive explosion rang out, and the Berserker only felt his right leg go numb as he stumbled forward, the huge inertia from his charge causing him to roll uncontrollably.

Amidst his tumble, the Berserker, with eyes wide open, seemed to see his right leg flying towards the sky!

Suddenly, excruciating pain struck, and the scarlet in the Berserker's eyes rapidly faded as he clutched his severed right leg while still in mid-roll.

"Ahhhhh....."

He did not expect that the Alchemist's goal was not to make a lethal strike but to render him powerless in battle.

Clang~

Amidst endless wailing and the sound of wind and snow was a faint whooshing sound, and the power of shadow had come within less than a meter from Baiyi.

It looked like a one-for-one trade no matter from which angle.

But in the next moment, a protective shield appeared around Baiyi, a Silver Level magic scroll that he had spent a hefty amount on.

Though reluctant to admit, the Mage's items indeed worked better than those of other professions.

After all, Alchemists could build Celestial Mechanical City, but Mages could also build Mage Towers, both being seekers of their own truths, requiring knowledge beyond what other professions could compare.

And knowledge... is power!

Clang~ Crack~

A crisp collision sounded, followed by the cracking of the shield, and Baiyi frowned sharply, had this Shadow Assassin awakened a shield-breaking specialization?

Mistake!

Baiyi quickly calculated and twisted his body to the left swiftly; as an Alchemist, he was not afraid of poison, exchanging injury for life was acceptable.

The dagger pierced through the Mage's shield, striking hard on his right shoulder.

Clang~ Crack~

A heavy sound rang out, and the powerful impact caused Baiyi to stagger forward, but the anticipated pain never came.

Baiyi was stunned for a moment, instantly thinking of the specialization [Spiritual Defense]!

Baiyi quickly turned around; the glove on his left hand had somehow been removed, and a jet of dark green liquid spurted from an old black ring on his index finger.

But the Assassin made no move to evade, only stared at his dagger in shock. He didn't understand why he couldn't take down this fragile opponent despite getting up close as an Assassin.

He couldn't even break through this fragile defense.

As the liquid approached, the Shadow Assassin attempted to use power to block the attack in front of him, but his eyes instantly turned green, and the magic power within him came to a complete halt.

As the dark green liquid touched his body, the Silver Level Assassin let out a muffled groan, pure black blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, dropping to one knee.

He gripped his dagger tightly, attempting to support himself to stand back up.

"Humph~"

But he stumbled, the dagger plunging into the snowy ground, the intense poison on the dagger instantly melting a patch of snow, turning the ground beneath the snow black.

Baiyi steadied himself, reaching to touch his right shoulder behind him, finding even his clothes intact!

[Spiritual Defense] truly lives up to its reputation as a boss specialization!

Does this mean that any attack below a certain power cannot break through the defense?

Moreover, the upper limit of this power grows as he grows.

Using spiritual perception to scan his body, Baiyi found that spiritual power was unconsciously pouring into it, and his spiritual power seemed to have consumed a lot.

This means... it's a kind of rechargeable shield, where fully saturated spiritual power would be stored on the body's surface, and until this originally stored spiritual power is depleted during attacks, one would remain unharmed!

Once he understood this, Baiyi's mood brightened considerably, the shield's upper limit growing with spiritual growth, and the spiritual limit growing with both strength and soul growth!

No wonder it takes so many people to team up and take down a game boss.

Pondering over this, Baiyi gazed at the Shadow Assassin kneeling on one knee before him, listening to the wretched screams behind him.

The smile on Baiyi's face grew more composed: "An Assassin is the Alchemist's nemesis? Heh..."
