Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 – The Queen’s Move

The room smelled of leather and faint incense, shadows stretching long and dark across every polished surface.

I stepped lightly, heels barely making a sound against the stone floor. Every movement was deliberate. Every step measured.

The man who had brought me here watched silently, his dark eyes unreadable.

He didn't speak.

He didn't need to.

Because I already knew—the moment I walked in, I was part of a game far bigger than anything I'd imagined.

I turned, letting my gaze drift over the array of shadows in the room—tall furniture, polished steel, corners heavy with darkness.

And then I smiled.

Stone and Wolfbane were already moving. I could feel them.

Through the glass walls. Through the security systems. Through whatever channels they used to track me.

They were predictable. And that gave me power.

I allowed my body to lean slightly forward, brushing my fingers across the edge of the table, just enough to draw attention.

Stone's eyes—cold, calculating, lethal—locked onto mine.

Wolfbane's smirk—playful, teasing, dangerous—appeared as if he could sense my movement from miles away.

I whispered softly, almost to myself:

"You think you own me. But the question is… who really does?"

Stone's jaw tightened.

Wolfbane's amber eyes flickered.

The first crack in their armor.

I moved closer to the shadowed man.

"My choices?" I asked, tilting my head, voice silky, dangerous.

"They're mine, aren't they?"

The man beside me allowed a slow nod.

"Yes. For now."

I smiled wider.

Because that was all I needed.

A crack. A foothold.

Stone's hand brushed the glass panel near me—just a fraction too close to me, and my pulse spiked.

Wolfbane's fingers itched to reach out, to test boundaries, to tempt fate.

And I fed into it.

Not weak. Not desperate. But deliberate.

Teasing with the tilt of my chin, the shift of my gaze, the faint curve of my lips.

I was a predator dressed as prey.

Stone's voice came low, almost a growl:

"You're mine."

Wolfbane laughed, a sound meant to slice through tension.

"Not if I'm faster. Not if I'm smarter. Not if she chooses me first."

I laughed softly, letting the sound curl around their senses, subtle, teasing, intoxicating.

"You think this is about you two?" I whispered.

"About power? About ownership? No."

I leaned slightly forward, letting my hair fall over my shoulder.

"It's about me. Always about me."

And just like that, I felt it—the shift.

The first crack in their dominance.

Stone hesitated, subtle but perceptible.

Wolfbane's grin faltered, just a fraction.

The shadowed man behind me stepped slightly forward, voice calm, deadly:

"Exactly. That's how the game works. Remember that."

I felt a thrill like electricity crawl along my spine.

Because I knew—tonight, I wasn't just surviving.

I was taking control.

Stone and Wolfbane's movements became unpredictable now, as if they were testing each other through me.

Every step, every glance, every breath calculated.

And I responded in kind, leaning, twisting, smiling, whispering just enough to make them question everything.

"You like the chase, don't you?" I said softly.

Stone's hand clenched, Wolfbane's smirk widened.

"Good," I murmured.

"Because you're both chasing the wrong prey."

The shadowed man observed, silent, allowing me the space to weave my influence.

And I realized—this was the first time I wasn't afraid.

This was the first time I understood my power.

Stone moved closer, slow, deliberate.

Wolfbane followed, mirroring, playful yet dangerous.

I let them come.

I let them test me.

And I smiled, because every advance they made, every reach, every whisper—was exactly what I wanted them to do.

"You're learning," the shadowed man said, voice a caress and a warning all at once.

"Yes," I whispered.

"And so are they."

The air between the three of us—me and the two men outside—was taut, alive, electric.

Every heartbeat, every breath, every thought a thread in a web I was beginning to weave.

And I realized—tonight, the game had changed.

I wasn't just surviving anymore.

I was playing.

And for the first time, I tasted the sweet, dangerous thrill of control.
