Chapter 42
The Reason for the Severing
"I can nullify the trait of these chains by using my own trait."
Thus, Einver focused for a few brief seconds, gathering all his energy and willpower.
"Come, Jikokuno—oooh!"
As soon as he spoke these words, the sword shot out from its storage, flying straight into Einver's hand, which was still bound by the solid iron chains.
He tried moving his left hand, but felt no response. He stretched his fingers, only to be shocked—nothing obeyed him.
"What's happening? Where is my hand?"
No one around him could see what he was doing. The sword was completely hidden within the thickness of the chains, and Einver himself could not tell what had happened to his left hand, for all sensation there had vanished.
He gripped the sword with his right hand and focused once more, trying to summon his inner strength.
"All right… it's time to try this."
A faint white glow began to radiate around his hand and the sword, shimmering lightly yet carrying great power.
Einver swung his hand in a smooth, steady motion, directing a single strike at the chains. With one clean cut, the chains were severed sharply and effortlessly, as though they had been nothing but thin sheets of paper.
He then stood upon the bed, holding the sword in his right hand. The sight stunned everyone present.
"How is this possible? He's weaker than the forger of the magical chains."
"How could he cut them so easily, as if they were nothing but paper?"
What they did not know was that Einver had revealed his own trait:
Trait Nullification.
As long as what restrained Einver carried someone's trait, he could nullify it with ease. Of course, traits did not differ between worlds, but there was something important that needed to be understood.
Take Sun Ko as an example. His trait was electrical charges; when he unleashed his fury and strength, he could summon lightning and thunder. Though he could not fully control them, he did succeed in calling down lightning—an impressive feat.
But one must always remember: traits are nothing more than natural forces. Suppose Sun Ko's enemy stood within the Higher Division of the World of Darkness—would his lightning strike affect them? Certainly not. Those who reside in the World of Darkness stand at the pinnacle of existence; their very presence instills terror into every heart.
The traits of someone from the Heavenly World would mean nothing to them. Even if struck, it would feel no more than the bite of a mosquito. The higher one ascends, the greater their physical and magical power becomes, and the weaker cannot rely on traits against them.
Consider a man whose trait is fire. Would it burn someone from the World of Darkness if he unleashed it without an actual attack? No—it would only feel like standing beneath the blazing summer sun. This is the difference between realms, and how they affect power and traits.
Yet nothing is absolute, and nothing is truly unbreakable. Now, Einver's trait could nullify the traits of anyone—even those from the World of Darkness—with ease. But for it to work, he had to touch the target.
Still, even after nullifying a trait, Einver had to remember: a true warrior never relied on traits alone, but on martial arts, magical might, and physical strength.
Suppose Einver faced an enemy from the World of Darkness, standing ready for his nullification. Even if that foe lowered all defenses, neither traits, nor martial techniques, nor combat aura would leave him standing still. Intelligence, experience, sheer physical and magical power, and destructive martial arts—all of these remained tools that such an enemy could wield to kill Einver, even if his trait stripped their weapon bare.
When Einver nullified the trait of seal and lock upon the chains, it did not erase the trait permanently; it lasted only a minute if left untouched. But if Einver himself held onto the object, the nullification would last as long as his hand remained upon it.
He tried to grip the chains with his left hand—but failed. Looking down, he saw something that shook him to his core: his left hand was severed.
Einver froze in disbelief.
"When did this happen? Why can't I remember?"
Placing the sword upon the bed, he clutched at the stump of his left arm, then turned toward the old man, Mai Na, and asked in confusion:
"What happened to my hand? Tell me!"
The old man avoided his gaze and gave no answer.
Einver exhaled sharply, his tone firm:
"Old man, tell me what happened to my hand, and how it was cut!"
Mai Na sighed again, yet remained silent, staying close by the princess and refusing to speak.
Einver raised his sword in his right hand toward the blue barrier before him.
"Remove this damned thing at once, or I'll cut it down myself!"
Mai Na intervened quickly:
"Wait, Einver—don't do anything reckless!"
Einver's reply was calm, but laced with steel:
"I am asking you a question, and you refuse to answer. You won't move these chains, you won't tell me what happened, and you won't even take down this cursed barrier. What in hell is going on here? Remove it—or I will shatter it!"
The princess gasped at his words, though the shock quickly faded, as if she had expected it all along.
"I knew it—you are an evil lunatic! I should have killed you then and there. But because of my uncle Mai Na, I spared you. And now look at you—ready to wreak havoc again!"
She shouted at Einver with force, but he met her words with a glare full of anger and frustration. He had had enough of her tiresome accusations.
Einver leveled his sword at the princess, stepped forward a few paces, and stood before her.
"What nonsense are you spitting, in hell's name? Havoc? Evil? Are you truly that foolish, or are you just pretending?
Listen well, you ignorant girl—I am a wanderer, roaming the world. I have no desire for massacres. I came to your city only to rest for a while, and you're the one who stopped me from leaving! You, the pitiful fool who couldn't even control her own mind, who remained her uncle's slave for years! You tried to kill me, sent assassins after me, tried to murder Mai Na and his daughter in cold blood! You imprisoned your mother and brother and drained their energy dry!"
Einver paused only for a moment to draw breath, then continued without allowing anyone to interrupt:
"And I am the one who saved this damned city. I am the one who rescued your mother and brother. I am the one who saved the old man and his daughter. I am the one who saved you, for hell's sake, from your filthy wretch of an uncle!
And now, you stand here wanting to punish the righteous? Have you gone mad—or is this your true, idiotic nature?
You know what? I'm done with all of this. To hell with you, to hell with your city, to hell with the worthless king who didn't know how to finish his battles and slay his enemies. To hell with your foolish father who believed lies. And you—damned fool of a harlot—you dare call me evil, when you were the one feeding on humans, the one who tortured the old man and his daughter, the one who stood a step away from killing them!"
Einver roared these truths without hesitation. He was not boasting of achievements or praising himself—he was declaring the reality. He had saved the princess, the old man and his daughter, the entire city. And yet here she was, attempting to imprison him.
The princess was struck silent, unable to answer. For she knew the truth, at least from Mai Na's lips, though he had not told her everything. But now Einver had shouted it all in the fire of his anger.
After a long minute of silence, Einver lowered his sword and exhaled heavily.
"I do not want rewards or gifts for saving you. I don't want you to treat me as a hero. All I want is to know how my hand was severed—and then leave this damned city to continue my journey."
The princess held her silence for a moment, then said:
"Were you not also controlled by my uncle? Did you not try to kill me? Did you not kill those soldiers? With all this evidence, how could I release you? I fear for my city and my people. And all you care about is wandering the world? Are you mocking me now?"
Einver stared at her in disbelief. Everything she said was nonsense. He had already told her the truth, everything that happened, and explained that all he wanted was to leave and travel the world. Yet all she cared about was keeping him caged.
His voice was steady, firm:
"Yes, my mind was controlled—just like yours. But I was not foolish enough to remain enslaved for years. Yes, I killed those soldiers. But the reason was because you ordered them to kill Mai Na and his daughter. You turned them against them—so I killed them first."
He stopped speaking, then stepped toward the blue barrier, intent on placing his hand upon it. A man warned him of the pain it would bring, but his warning went unheeded.
Einver pressed his hand against the barrier and spoke quietly:
"And one more thing—never, ever mock my dream. Do you understand? Never mock my life! This chance I hold, I gained only through the sacrifice of my mother and my younger brother. Never mock the way I live my life—for whoever dares to mock it, I will kill with my own hands, without hesitation."
As he finished, Einver unleashed his aura of Bloody Darkness along with the aura of the Higher Earth Division.
Having once endured the agony of fusing three auras together, Einver could now merge two temporarily without pain. Yet the full fusion of all three—the Martial Aura, the Aura of Darkness, and the Title of Mad Slayer—created the technique Bloody Darkness, enabling him to fight opponents a division above his own, and paralyze all those equal or weaker in strength.
Meanwhile, merging the Martial Aura with the Aura of Darkness granted him a temporary surge of strength.
Previously, a message had appeared in the chamber of important figures:
"Congratulations! You have created a new technique: Jimamero no Yami (Bloody Darkness). By merging your aura of Bloody Darkness with your Higher Earth Division aura and the Title of Mad Slayer, you can now fight evenly against those one division above you, while paralyzing all those weaker or equal. Current duration: 2 minutes only."
But at the time, in his fury and rage, Einver had paid no attention to it.
Now, he activated his trait:
Trait Nullification.
The moment he thought these words, the barrier before their eyes collapsed and vanished without a trace.
With just a touch of Einver's hand, the man maintaining the barrier fell to the ground, stunned and terrified by what had happened.
The princess was astonished by Einver's power, as a dark aura began to coil around his body, writhing and twisting in the air like dense smoke. Everyone present felt the crushing pressure of his killing intent. Sweat poured down their faces, and their bodies trembled beneath the overwhelming force radiating from Einver—as if it were a natural disaster dominating the entire space.
But what no one realized was that Einver had never trained to wield this technique at such a level. He had only used it once before, when he broke free from the control of Sin Ka. At that time, he had combined it with the Title of Mad Slayer, but his body could not withstand the power. Wounds had torn across him, he had bled heavily, and eventually fainted.
Now, as he used it once again, something unexpected occurred: a message appeared before him, glowing in the air as though written with light itself:
"Congratulations! You have created a new technique.
Name: Yami no Hai (Darkness of Sovereignty).
By merging your aura of Bloody Darkness with your Martial Aura, you can fight evenly against those one division above you, for a duration of 5 minutes."
Einver paid no heed to the message, consumed by his fury at the princess's contempt for his choices and his wandering. Rage burned in him because this chance—his life, his path—had been bought with the sacrifices of his mother and his younger disciple.
And in that critical moment, from behind Einver, a gentle, trembling voice filled with fear and worry rang out:
"Stop, big brother…"
The voice carried every shade of anxiety, as though it were warning of the explosion of power Einver was about to unleash—power that neither his body nor those around him could endure.
