Chapter 4 - She ran...

Lila tilted her head her heart pounding as his scent mixed with whiskey wrapped around her. "Then stop talking." She whispered, her voice low and soft.

Dominic smirk disappeared almost immediately replaced by heat and need for her

He closed the distance between them, pulling her by the waist. He leaned in for the first kiss.

The kiss was slow and exploratory and then it wasn't. His lips moved against her's with growing urgency, his hands tightening on her as if afraid she might disappear.

Lila matched his intensity, her fingers threading through his hair, tugging lightly just to see his reaction. The low growl he gave in response sent a Shiver down her spine.

"You're something," he muttered against her lips, his voice rough with need.

"And you like it," she responded, surprised at the boldness in her voice.

-----------------

Lila dragged her hair in embarrassment. Cringing at her self.

Fuck hormones.

She sat up slowly daring not to make a sound. Her eyes scanned the room for what ever was left of her clothes.

Her dress was draped over a nearby chair, her shoes were scattered on the floor, and her bag sat precariously on the edge of the coffee table.

She slid out of bed, winching as the cool air hit her skin. Her pulse quickened as she tiptoed across the room, slipping into her dress with shaking hands.

"Fuck, this zip." She cursed silently at the hooked zip.

She didn't dare look back at the bed, afraid that he might wake up and catch her in the act of fleeing.

"Get it together, Lila," she muttered under her breath, grabbing her shoes, bag and his shirt in one swift motion. "You're late."

Lila tiptoed toward the door, glancing back at his sleepy face.

He moved a little, his hand twitching as if reaching for her.

Her heart twisted, a pang of guilt building in it.

She pushed the feeling aside.

This wasn't any of her business.

"Thanks for the shirt." She whispered.

Without another glance, she slipped out of the suite, her heels clicking softly against the marble floor as she hurried toward the elevator.

Once inside, she leaned against the wall, her heart racing. "What the hell were you thinking?" she whispered to herself.

The elevator doors dinged open, and she bolted for the exit, the cold morning air hitting her like a slap to the face.

------------------

Dominic woke to the faint sound of the door clicking shut, but did not think much of it.

The sunlight slipped intrusively through the curtains he had forgot to close the night before.

"Fuck morning"

He stirred, his brow furrowing slightly as consciousness returned to him. His body felt relaxed, more at ease than it had in months.

The faint scent of her lingered on the sheets. A mix of something sweet, like vanilla and cocoa.

A slow, satisfied smirk spread across his face as events from last night played in his mind.

**Lila.**

He reached out instinctively to the other side of the bed, expecting to find her still tangled in the sheets. But his hand met only cool emptiness.

Dominic's eyes snapped open.

The smirk vanishing as he turned his head, to find the space next to him empty, the sheets crumpled and cold.

He sat up, scanning the room. Her dress was gone, her bag missing. The only trace of her was a red stain on the bedsheet and lingering warmth of her presence in the air.

For a moment, he just sat there, processing the whole scene.

Then, with a low, humorless chuckle, he ran a hand through his disheveled hair.

Hahaha.

"She ran," he muttered to himself.

Dominic stood, his movements slow and deliberate as he grabbed the black robe hanging near the bed and wrapped it around his waist. He walked to the window, pushing the curtains aside to reveal the city below.

His mind raced as he tried to piece together the puzzle that was Lila.

It was the first for him.

The first time a woman would run from him.

Every woman wants to be in his bed. She had the opportunity but she 'Lila' ran away.

Why?

Was he not good enough for her or—

His eyes fell upon the stain on the sheet.

This was her first time.

He ran his hand through his hair again, sighing heavily. He walked over to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water pouring himself a cup as he mind kept drifting to the fact that she ran.

He turned to the bed, his jaw tightening as he narrowed his gaze slightly.

This is very disturbing. Most women would've stayed. Drawn to his wealth.

He glanced over to the table, his wallet was still there intact.

How could she slipped out like a thief in the night, leaving him mentally messed up than ever.

He walked over to the chair where her dress had been draped and spotted a napkin on the table nearby. His sharp eyes caught the faintest smudge of lipstick on it, a leftover trace from her rushed exit. He picked it up, his thumb brushing over the mark as he smirked.

"You're not getting away that easily," he muttered, eyes glittering with something dark.

------

Lila stepped onto the pavement, shivering as the early morning air nipped at her bare skin. The street was eerily quiet, the towering buildings around her making her feel even smaller.

She pulled the hem of her dress down, but it was hopeless.

Passerby wouldn't just stop looking at her.

She crossed her arms over her chest, shifting uncomfortably as a middle aged man passed by her.

His eyes was hungrily fixed on her like a five year old craving for an ice-cream. He was so distracted he almost got crashed by another man on a bicycle who was also staring at her.

"Hey, watch it man." The man on the bicycle shouted marching break abruptly.

"I'm.. I'm so sorry" the middle aged man shuttered.

Lila watched both of them in disgust creep running down her veins.

"perverts." She muttered clutching Dominic's shirt.

Without hesitation she slipped it on buttoning it up half way over her dress.

It smelt just like him, crisp and masculine, and was absurdly large on her, but she didn't care. Shielding herself from prying eyes was more important.

With trembling fingers she yanked her phone from her small clutch, but the screen remained black.

Dead.

Of course.

The universe just loved messing with her.

She glanced at the street. There wasn't a single taxi in sight.

She shifted from foot to foot, casting anxious looks up and down the street, but time crawled at a torturous pace.

Even she saw a taxi but it was already occupied. She sighed in frustration running her hand through her long hair.

"Why would he bring me to a place like this." She stamped her foot on the floor.

Minutes passed.

Five.

Ten.

And still no empty taxi.

Just as she was ready to start walking barefoot, a lone taxi finally appeared in the distance.

She almost cried in relief.

She waved frantically, nearly jumping in place.

"Please, please, please stop. yes!" She exhaled as the taxi pulled up beside her. She got in, slamming the door shut.

"4728 Willow Creek Lane." She rattled off . "I'll pay with card." she added quickly.

The ride home felt longer than usual, or maybe it was just her heartbeat hammering in her ears, her mind kept replaying the event from last night.

"Nooo..." she whispered, burying her face in her palms as regret crashed over her. The taxi kept moving, but inside, she was screaming..

The driver looked at her like she was crazy and she also couldn't deny the fact she was truly crazy.

She aided the diver to be fast as she has something important to do. The driver nodded and increase his pace.

Shortly after, they got to her apartment. Lila got inside slamming the door shut behind her.

She Leaned against it, her heart raced as she turned around in frustration pressing her forehead against the wood.

"What have I done?"

She wanted to scream at her self so much but— "Arrrrg." She groaned running her hands down her face.

"You're a genius, Lila. You lost your first experience to a one-night stand. So freaking cool"

"So freaking cool to be insane."

Before her mind could wander any further, the hallway creaked.

And kate her best friend, padded out looking like a half-functioning zombie. Her brown curls were a tangled mess, her oversized sleep shirt nearly swallowing her whole. She yawned, stretching as she rubbed her eyes.

"You're back…" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.

Suddenly, Kate glanced back reversing her steps a bit. She blinked a few times, trying to registered the state Lila was in.

The messy hair, the oversized men's shirt, the bare legs and the purple hickey on the neck.

Kat rubbed her eyes again to be sure of what she was seeing. Then she narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"something's fishy."
