Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Strength in Steps

Arjun Sharma stood in his Bandra flat, the Mumbai monsoon's heat softened by a breeze through open windows, the aroma of Priya's pav bhaji simmering in the kitchen. His morning grind— Ola rides earning, and a 2 km Juhu Beach run, netting ₹2,000—kept his momentum high. At 45, 1.85 meters, and ~100 kg, Arjun's drive surged, fueled by the Midlife Mastery System: sharper focus, stronger legs, a grin that held. His phone pinged: "SBI: ₹3,300 credited for rides. ₹2,000 credited for run. Balance: ₹76,850." His Nike sneakers hit Linking Road's wet pavement, heading to FitZone Gym, rickshaw horns blending with chaiwala calls.

FitZone thrummed with Bollywood remixes, weights clanking, and spin bikes whirring. Shalini Patel, in a grey tank top and yoga pants, met Arjun near the squat racks, her tall frame radiating focus. "Arjun sir, day six—third private lesson! Wednesday's for lower body and spinning," she said, her nod steady. Sanjay, in new gym gear, hovered nearby, nervous for his trial session. "Arjun bhai, I'm in—thanks for the push!" Arjun clapped his shoulder. "You'll crush it, Sanjay. Shalini's the best."

The gym's equipment loomed like a Mumbai bazaar, but Shalini's plan was sharp: squats, lunges, and a spinning session. "Start with bodyweight squats," she instructed, demonstrating a deep squat. "Your height needs strong legs for balance." Arjun followed, thighs burning through three sets of 15, sweat soaking his tee. Shalini adjusted his stance: "Knees behind toes, chest up." Sanjay, on a nearby rack, mimicked clumsily, his post-layoff slump fading. "Good, Arjun sir. Now lunges," Shalini said, setting 10 kg dumbbells. Each step fired Arjun's quads, Sanjay grunting beside him.

Mid-session, Shalini checked Sanjay's form. Vikram Joshi, the gym bro, sauntered over, smirking. "Bhai, you and Sanjay making Shalini rich? Her ₹90,000 plan's no joke!" Arjun laughed. "Worth every paisa, Vikram. Join us next time." Vikram waved him off, but Sanjay, inspired, pushed harder. Shalini returned: "Arjun sir, spinning next—30 minutes, high intensity." On the bikes, Arjun pedaled to a pulsing beat, Sanjay struggling but determined, sweat dripping.

Arjun's phone buzzed—Priya: "Dad, made Chicken Curry for dinner! Staying home, no cafes tonight." He replied: "Proud of you, kid. Save me some!" Her thumbs-up emoji warmed him. Another buzz—Mrs. Desai: "Arjun, Sanjay's raving about FitZone! You're his hero." He smiled, typing: "Just getting started, aunty."

At the front desk, Neha and Riya whispered as Arjun logged his check-in. "Shalini's crew is growing," Neha muttered, envy sharp. Riya smirked: "They'll quit by Diwali." Arjun ignored them, his phone pinging: "Daily gym check-in complete! ₹1,000 credited. SBI: ₹1,000 credited to account ending 6867. Balance: ₹77,850. Earned: 1 knowledge scroll." Another ping: "Midlife Mastery System: Secret Task—Push Sanjay to failure in a plank challenge. Reward: ₹10,000 cashback, 1 electrolyte drink."

Post-spinning, Shalini gathered Arjun and Sanjay for a core finisher. "Plank challenge," she said. "Hold till you drop. Arjun sir, show Sanjay how it's done." He held a forearm plank, core tight, for 90 seconds. Sanjay, determined, lasted 60 before collapsing, gasping, "Bhai, you're a machine!" Shalini nodded. "Solid, Arjun sir. Sanjay, you'll get there." Arjun's phone pinged: "Midlife Mastery System: Task complete. ₹10,000 credited. 1 electrolyte drink added. SBI: ₹10,000 credited. Balance: ₹87,850."

As they cooled down, Sanjay hesitated. "Arjun bhai, the ₹12,000 membership's steep. I'm short after the layoff." Arjun, recalling Sanjay's grit, offered, "I'll cover ₹8,000, you pay ₹4,000. Deal?" Sanjay nodded, grateful. They split the payment at the desk, Arjun's phone pinging: "SBI: ₹8,000 debited. Balance: ₹79,850." A final ping: "Midlife Mastery System: Bonus Task—Help Sanjay join FitZone. Reward: ₹80,000 cashback for your generosity." SBI confirmed: "₹80,000 credited. Balance: ₹159,850."

Back home, Priya served Chicken Curry, her smile bright. "Dad, thanks for checking on me yesterday. I'm sticking to my promise." Arjun hugged her. "You're my strength, kid." Linking Road pulsed outside—chaiwalas shouting, neon glowing. With Sanjay's gym start and Priya's bond, Arjun chased new goals, the Midlife Mastery System lighting his path.
