Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Allies and Ambitions

Arjun Sharma strode into FitZone Gym the day after tomorrow, the clatter of weights and hum of treadmills filling the air. Shalini Patel, his 24-year-old trainer, greeted him near the weight racks, her FitZone cap tilted, worry creasing her brow. "Sharma ji, you're back," she said, adjusting a dumbbell. "Those Ola shifts keeping you fit?" Arjun grinned, stretching his 185 cm frame. "Driving's my warmup, Shalini. Ready for a real workout." Shalini's smile faltered as she spoke. "My ₹60,000 sales quota's killing me. Riya and Sneha are stealing clients with their cheap talk. I'm barely holding on."

A system notification buzzed silently: "Task: Complete fitness check-in and help Shalini achieve her sales goal. Reward: Shalini's friendship, tenfold cashback (up to ₹2 crore) on purchases with her, capped at ₹20,00,000 spent." Before Arjun could respond, Riya Gupta strutted over, her tight gym wear and sly smile calculated. "Shalini's losing her touch," she purred, addressing nearby clients. "That glow on her clients? Bet she's pushing dodgy supplements." Her malicious tone aimed to undermine Shalini's credibility. Arjun's Spirit stat of 60 fueled his sharp retort. "No supplements, Riya—just clean eating and Shalini's training. Stop spreading lies," he snapped, his Strength of 70 lending authority.

Shalini shot him a grateful glance, her reserved demeanor clashing with Riya's boldness. Riya beckoned Sneha Iyer, who sauntered up, tossing her hair. "Shalini's clients look good, but at what cost? Botox? Surgery?" Sneha cooed, eyeing the gym floor. Their accusations, meant to sway others, grated on Arjun. "Shalini's training is legit," he said, his voice cutting through the hum. "You two are just stirring trouble to poach clients. It's pathetic." Shalini's shoulders relaxed, but her eyes betrayed fear—her principled approach couldn't match Riya and Sneha's brazen tactics, and losing clients would crush her quota. "Thanks, Sharma ji," she murmured. "Let's hit the weights."

During their strength training—biceps, triceps, chest, and back—Shalini adjusted the equipment for Arjun's frame, setting 40 kg per arm. Her careful guidance, a light touch on his elbow to correct form, boosted his focus. "Keep your elbows in, Sharma ji," she said, handing him an electrolyte drink . "Stay hydrated." Her stretches to prevent soreness underscored her value, contrasting Riya and Sneha's shallow ploys. "You're killing it," she said, smiling. Arjun, recalling his promise, leaned in. "Shalini, I've got your back. Vikram Patel, a shop owner from my Ola routes, wants to join. I'll bring him today to sign up under you." Shalini's eyes lit up. "That'd save me," she said, her voice thick.

That afternoon, Arjun met Vikram at his electronics shop, the air thick with the scent of chai. "Vikram, join FitZone under Shalini—she's the best," Arjun urged. Vikram, a stocky man in his 30s, nodded eagerly. "I'm in, Sharma ji. Time to get fit." Arjun covered the ₹90,000 annual membership, ensuring it was credited to Shalini's quota. At FitZone, Rani, the receptionist, processed Vikram's membership, her eyes wide. "Sharma ji, this is huge for Shalini!" she exclaimed. Shalini rushed over, her face glowing. "You didn't have to do this," she said, her voice trembling.

Riya, overhearing, scoffed, her envy palpable. "Lucky break, Shalini. Bet he's just flaunting cash," she muttered to Sneha, who nodded sourly. Arjun ignored them, turning to Shalini. "You deserve it. Keep being you," he said, his loyalty unwavering. The system buzzed: "Task Complete: Shalini's friendship earned. Cashback: ₹9,00,000 credited. New balance: ₹29,36,890." Shalini's ₹81,000 after the gym's cut secured her stability, her smile radiant.
